Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?
Newu68 replied to Kevineastwest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was self pay and I had surgery ten weeks after my initial appointment. I met with the surgeon 4 times, had a psych exam and standard tests but all in all I think it really depends on how busy your surgeon is and how many visits they require. -
Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?
Newu68 replied to Kevineastwest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started at 35BMI and am just about six months out and I have lost 66 pounds. Weight came off pretty fast and over the last couple months I am losing approx 6-7 pounds a month. I am 19 pounds from my doctors goal and 29 pounds from my goal but I will be happy at my doctors goal. I need to increase my activity at this point to continue to tighten everything up but feeling great! -
What was your first soft food?
Newu68 replied to JCP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Poached eggs. I found them easier than scrambled. Grits are a good choice and oatmeal. -
Take your measurements. Every time I stall I lose a lot of inches. It's like your body is rebalancing your weight. It will kick back in. Protein and water. Keep focused!

First week sleeved...quick question
Newu68 replied to Fluffernutt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All normal. I didn't feel the full sensation until I was on soft foods. Keep drinking! -
Six weeks out and your eating chocolate? You need to talk to your Nut quickly and figure out what will help you stay full and satisfied. It does sound like you need to substitute activity for your head hunger. Go outside and walk around the block before you eat....if your still hungry eat protein. Add snacks if needed but don't fall back into old habits. Not sugar. You have a powerful tool but you need to have the discipline to make it work. You can do this

If you don't get your protein in you won't heal as quickly and risk major hair loss at three months out. The water and protein are critical to your success. It's mind over matter and you can do this for a few weeks. This is the worst part and soon you will be eating regular food and this will all be behind you. Make your health the priority and get over the taste. You are eating to live not living to eat......there is a difference. Good luck.

What does it feel like?
Newu68 replied to auntiemel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my experience you can not really tell the difference after surgery. I had about two days of pain and another 7-10 days of soreness but everything was manageable. You can feel a difference when you start drinking your protein shakes but I used a medicine cup and drank very slowly with no problems. My surgeon recommended slimfast chocolate meal replacement with 20 grams of protein 3 times a day for the first three weeks. My best advise is to follow the plan your doctor gives you! Don't try to rush it. Get off of soda and all caffeine well before your surgery as you don't want to deal with caffeine withdraw or headaches and get up and walk as much as possible. Just keep moving. Bottom line it is tough the first couple weeks but it gets better every day and it's worth it. I am three months post surgery today and down 49 pounds. You can do it! -
I'm eating when I'm not supposed to!
Newu68 replied to LaydeeK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not feel any restrictions while I was on liquids but as soon as I started eating purée I could feel it when I had eaten enough. I haven't thrown up but I have had a few times where I ate too much and got the foamies with a very uncomfortable full feeling. You will feel the difference. You need to speak to your nut and psychologist to help work thru your transition and what sounds like head hunger. You can do this and it's a permanent tool so don't abuse it and stretch it out. Stay focused. Good luck. -
my family is telling me to stop loosing weight :(
Newu68 replied to gruiz27's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are in control. What is your ideal weight? You are young so you should think about how you want to live the rest of your life. While you have done amazing so far you are not at your doctor recommended weight. Stay focused and achieve your goals. Your family just hasn't acclimated to your new look. Good luck. -
I can't get in my needed protein.
Newu68 replied to almostatlantic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drank slim fast high protein 20 grams the first few weeks. My doctor recommended as it is very watery and was easier to get down. It never left my side and I would drnk 3 of those and 3 bottles of water with crystal light. Just sip constantly. You can do it. Good luck. -
Sounds like gas from inflating your abdomen. Gas x is only for intestinal gas so it won't help. I had terrible pain in my shoulder. Try the following: heating pad really helps, walk around as much as possible as it seems to break it up, bend over a chair and swing your left arm....seems to help. Mine lasted until day 6 and got worse at the end of the day. Keep moving and soon it will be gone.

4Days Post Op and still sore....
Newu68 replied to fccm04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If the protein shakes bother your tummy check the sugar content. I used slimfast choc high protein 20grams as it is a meal replacement protein drink. Has more of the daily recommended vitamins and minerals. If you sip it you can get it in. I drank 3 per day for the first two weeks while on the clear liquid phase. Good luck.
