Right after surgery ,I was lucky to stay on the treadmill for 5 minutes , walking 2 MPH.I accidentally pushed the wrong button yesterday and had to run at 4 MPH. It was rough going ,but I did it. I haven't ran for 19 years. My wrist weights I bought to use while I was walking now actually fit around my wrists. Congrats to all of you. Keep up the great work.

Has anyone decided to have the lap band after a prior traumatic surgery?

Sorry to go off subject. I hit the wrong button. The question about the prior surgery trauma is a good one to ask at any consultation you may go too. -

Don't know about the fibroids, but I do lnow it's common to have gall bladder removed and hernias repaired during the same surgery. Good luck with your research. -
Any Last Minute Advice.....
OnMyWay2Fit replied to Songinmysoul1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything went fine for me. I am 5 days post op. I too was self pay.My biggest fear was that I would do something wrong following surgery and wind up in there again, paying again. Just follow doc's rules to a tee. I would do it again in a heart beat. I already love my band. Good luck to you.!!! -
Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
OnMyWay2Fit replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Very lowfat diet to shrink liver, and High protein. Wasn't that bad .Still had cottage cheese,yogurt,turkey,fish.. Surgery went great too. GOOD LUCK TO ALL !!! It was worth it all. 3 Days prior to surgery I had to have clear liquids only. -

I know "eventually isn't what you want to hear. I am 5 days post op and still have a little pain in the same place. Most of the pain subsided yesterday. My aunt is a nurse and said that it is the air they pumped you up with that is just stuck.Walk,Walk,walk.It seems mine left almost all at once after I laid down after a long walk at the mall. Good Luck. It'll get better.Did you try some Gas-X? -
Sleeping Positions, Black&Blue marks,& Chills
OnMyWay2Fit replied to Rosie15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have found that the recliner is the best for me.I can get comfortable in bed ,but it is hard to get out without pain. I have very little bruising so far.I have seen the four small holes(healing well) ,but I haven't uncovered the port site. There doesn't seem to be any pain in that area.It does feel as if there is air trapped behind my ribs on the left side. I hope this goes away soon .It is uncomfortable when I need to burp. -
Well , I am officially a bandster. I am one of the many lucky people who are going to enjoy waking up every morning. I went through surgery on Wednesday with no complications. I was up and walking around within 1 hour after surgery. I have very little bruising. I have four very little holes in my belly and one slightly bigger one. Everything seems to be going fine. I have already lost the water weight that was added on during my stay at the clinic. All in all , I think I'm doing great. I am on full liquids at this point and will move on to pureed foods in about 2 weeks. I am looking forward to the future with my new band. Thanks to all who were rooting for me.:whoo:

Is there some kind of chart or formula available to figure out the weight to lose to go from morbid to severe to just obese to just overweight ? Does it have to do with the BMI numbers?
-
I started this journey on Sept.17. I started trying to lose at that point. Now ,I finally have my date . I was starting to get a little scared, but then I looked at myself in the mirror and saw me 18 pounds lighter than I was two months ago. I have been getting ready for this and I AM GOING to finally be able to keep that weight off. If I can be this happy after only 18 pounds gone , I can only imagine how happy it will make me feel to lose a lot more. :whoo:. I am sooo glad to be able to join in your happiness. :clap2:

Trying to wait patiently !!
OnMyWay2Fit replied to OnMyWay2Fit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for getting back. I'm planning on getting mine done in Columbus. Where are you going. If it's the same place, I'll give them a call .The LPN they assigned me to seems to be dragging her feet every step of the way.I have had faxes(w/ times and dates) sent directly to her office, and she doesn't seem to get them for a week or so. Then it has taken her over a week to get them to the doctor in the same building.Sorry, I am just frustrated. -
I went to my consultation Sept 17. Everything was going great. Doc said It could be done rather quickly because I am self pay.My PCP and Surgeon sent me for sleep study.BOOM I have sleep apnea. Glad to find out ahead of time ,but added 8 weeks on to the wait. All my clearances are done.I have been on my CPAP 2-3 weeks.(6 weeks are required by my doc prior to surgery.).What kind of time frame did any of you have from final clearances to surgery date? I was really hoping for somewhere between December 21-January 2. Dou you think this is possible ? ( I drive school bus, so that is my vacation.)

researching my options
OnMyWay2Fit replied to motherkittie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When I started doubting myself about whether I wanted the band bad enough something happened. Someone had a post saying all the things she planned on doing in her life after the band. I cried through part of it and laughed for the other part of it. I went back and couldn't find the exact post.If you go to search, advanced search, search post for amusement parks, you will find so many reasons why you want to have it done. Most of mine related to how much I have already missed with my kids while being fat. I plan on making it up with my grand kids someday. . Good luck!! :clap2::clap2: -
I haven't had my surgery yet. I'm hoping to around x-mas.(Best gift I could get). I have been trying the different flavors that GNC has in protien shakes.Banana Creme, Chocolate Caramel, Cookies and creme and more. Try their Website !!. Also good luck to you all on your recovery and your new life with the band. I'll keep watching .It is all so encouraging to me .:clap2::clap2:

You sound like you were reading from my thoughts. The seatbelts, the amusement park rides, worrying about my husband toughing my back fat.I am soooo ready for this surgery. If I could only get the ball rolling faster. I am waiting for my doc to give me the script for my CPAP. Through this journey I have found that I have sleep apnea. The surgeon wants me to be on the machine a few weeks before I can even schedule the surgery.I am still hoping for a date around x=mas. Time is running out.

I've only been on here for about a month. I haven't been banded yet, but I am anxiously waiting. This forum should help you tremendously. It has really helped me.There are so many topics for discussion.GOOD LUCK on the site and on your new band.

I had researched different places. When I came across the Barix Treatment Centers, I really looked into it. Of the 50,000 of the surgerys that have been done, they have done 30,000 of them. 5000 just last year. I am paying all out of pocket and just felt comfortable with them. At my consultation they answered all my questions with ease. The surgeon actually worked with the lapband company prior to him working for the Barix Clinics. Just yesterday, after I read your thread,I was looking up what they have to offer at the Cleveland Clinic. That is only 45-60 minutes from home. But, I want to find out more.

I am from the Akron Area. Actually Ravenna 20 minutes from akron. Have you already had your surgery? I'm getting mine done in Columbus. Good Luck!

I am still going through my whole CPAP adventure. I was told that I absolutely have to take the CPAP with me. They make sure that you are hooked up to it during and after surgery before you wake up. It makes you come out of surgery easier because you are forced to breath. It also makes recovery easier for the same reason.I would definately take it. Actually my surgeon won't do the surgery without it since he knows I have sleep apnea. He said that years ago he had done a perfect surgery. The next day the man passed on. He had lied about having sleep apnea. That was reason enough for me to get tested in the first place. Good Luck! I really hope you take it with you.

Moderate Sleep Apnea!!!Real Frustrated!!!
OnMyWay2Fit posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The plans were to get an okey from my doctor today for surgery.Pre -admission testing in two weeks. Surgery around Thanksgiving. All seemed to be going my way. NOW Found I have moderate sleep apnea. Have to wait to schedule another night with the sleep disorder clinic.Barix Clinic then wants me to be on machine for at least 6 weeks before they will even schedule me for pre admission testing. I am extremely frustrated.Seems like Nothing is going right. Can some one clue me in on this sleep apnea.:confused:
