    Is it just me?

There are some reason posts where people are panicking about giving up pop and coming up with all kinds of justifications for not doing it. They need to hear your story.

    Is it just me?

One thing I have learned through this process is how bad my nutrition was pre-op ---definitely carb heavy with much too little Protein. Just weaning yourself off of the cokes will do a tremendous amount for your health.

    Fainting spells

This definitely sounds like something you need to address with your PCP.

    Does anybody else get tired!

Yes, this is perfectly normal. You just had major surgery. There is nothing wrong with testing. Just focus on your Protein and fluids, and keep taking your vitamins as instructed. It gets better. Ok thanks! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App *testing should be *resting...
  5. I am a firm believer in using every resource available. I am glad to hear you have a mental health team to work with.

One week post - Wow what a week!

You have been through the ringer. Glad to hear that things are looking up.

40 lbs down, 4 weeks post op -- update

    This sounds great!
  8. This breaks my heart. Sending hugs to you.

    Steady weight

Our body does not store protein (like it does with fat and carbs). If we do not consume sufficient protein, we will not have enough for basic bodily functions and the body will consume its own protein (muscle), which can lead to loss of muscle mass, loss of hair, slow or no healing, heart problems, etc. We NEED protein for healing and weight loss.

    My first time posting

Welcome. Without knowing what you are doing it is hard to give suggestions. I recommend that if you are unhappy with where you are that you make an appointment with your NUT to talk about your goals. In the meantime, go back to basics. Follow your program. Track your food. Make sure you are reaching your Protein target every day. Get at least 64 oz of Fluid every day. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Avoid starches, added sugars, and fried foods. Exercise. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  11. My understanding is that the sleeve started the other way around. Some extremely high BMI folks were given the sleeve as the first part of a two-step procedure so they could lose enough to safely undergo the second part. So many people did so well that they didn't need the second part that they started offering it as a standalone procedure.
  12. I have a sleeve. I am allowed to drink up to the time I eat. I usually wait a while after I eat just because my stomach is full of food.

  14. The sleeve/stomach has a pyloric valve at the bottom that empties the stomach. Liquids do not sit in the stomach indefinitely, they pass through the stomach. If you drink slowly, the stomach can empty as fast as you fill it.

    Why do people regain

This is simply not true. Our bodies are not simple machines, they are complex systems.

    Book, cookbook suggestions?

The Big Book of Gastric Sleeve Eat it Up! by Connie Stapleton There are many cookbooks on Amazon, but there are lots of recipes on this site. Also, The World According to Eggface blog is really popular. When Food is Love by Geneen Roth

    1st stall

You need to do it. Try to eat more frequently. Early out I was sipping something (protein/fluids) all day.

    1st stall

You need more than that. What is your Protein target? 50 grams seems extremely low. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

1 week post op....don't know what I'm doing

Are you taking a PPI? Have you talked to your surgeon about your cramps and acid? The numbers on the scale in the first few weeks are basically meaningless as far as I am concerned. You need to focus on healing and getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Please stay off the scale. Early out I only weighed at doctors appointments. Just follow your program and the numbers will take care of themselves.

    Why do people regain

Hum, how you eat and what you eat and when you eat has a very big impact on metabolism. It isn't some static thing. It is a complex system. Drinking Water impacts your metabolism. sleep impacts your metabolism. Protein impacts your metabolism. Exercise impacts your metabolism. Not eating impacts your metabolism. Yo-yo dieting impacts your metabolism. Your body mass/fat to muscle ratio impacts your metabolism.

    Why do people regain

Lol!! Yes, I used to be that way too! Then I switched from marathons to ultra, started running long, but slower, and that's when I started gaining. It's been a challenge ever since. It just so happened that I was also three years out too. The last year has been a challenge. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Have you talked to your NUT about this. This kind of running/training sounds like you would need a very specialized diet. Maybe you are gaining because your body is fighting for nutrients?
  22. Inner Surfer Girl

    Pre-op diet

Definitely talk to your NUT. Carbs are what I was supposed to avoid completely during my pre-op diet. Since you are vegetarian that is going to be hard to do. Can you do shakes (like premier)? Can you do sugar-free Popsicles, crystal light, decaf tea, etc.?

I need to know it gets better!

I was told that because we are paralyzed during the surgery, our lungs are deflated. It takes a bit of help to get them fully reinflated and functioning fully. According to my surgeon the biggest risks for surgery are pneumonia and blood clots. The incentive respirator helps us to avoid pneumonia.
  24. It sounds like you aren't eating enough for your activity level. That said, none of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience stalls and slow downs, and most of us experience our first stall about three weeks after surgery.
