Nausea after protein shakes. Lactose intolerance?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Freckles70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why are you making the unjury with milk? Have you tried just making it with water? -
Thanks for the info Plus, if you go into caffeine withdrawal, the headaches can be brutal. Not something I would recommend going through while also trying to recover from surgery.

I didn't have a puree stage (I went from full liquids to soft foods). Can you just stick to simple foods like: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans, chili, etc.? What do you mean by being a picky eater? Can't you just eat foods you like that fit in your guidelines? You don't really have to make it very complicated or am I missing something?

Any recommendations for activity tracker?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Avettgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sister gave me a Misfit Shine for Christmas and I love it. It is co-branded with speedo and since I swim it is great for tracking laps since I can wear it in the pool. -
What are some of your ideas about getting the weight off post-op?

Inner Surfer Girl replied to Kwilliams03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is what works for me: Follow my program. Track my food. Get at least 64 oz. of Fluid a day. Get at least 100 grams Protein a day. Avoid added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), starches, and fried foods. Practice mindful eating: eating slowly, taking small bites, and chewing thoroughly. Take my Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise (I like swimming and Water exercise). Attend support group meetings. Participate on BariatricPal. Do something creative as much as possible (ideally every day). Learn as much as I can about obesity, nutrition, WLS, etc. Read and ask questions. Journal and self-reflect. Practice stress management (exercise, meditation, creativity, laughter, etc). I also recommend that if you struggle with food addiction/disordered eating that you seek a good therapist and consider attending OA (OA.org). -

Very few calories.. Stalled weight loss, and the not full feeling
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Lisa1996's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I would call and ask your NUT how much Protein you should be getting if that information isn't in your post-op food plan. My protein target is 100 grams. My surgeon has that target for all men and anyone with a starting BMI over 50. For everyone else it is 80 grams a day. -
Carbonated beverages
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bellabeans's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What worked for me was to gradually wean myself off of carbonation and then caffeine. I cut back on my diet sodas and increased my Water consumption. I also drank more alternative beverages like tea (fortunately I like unsweetened tea), and crystal light, etc. Once I had reduced my carbonation to 0, I did the same thing with caffeine -- reducing my caffeinated tea and increasing my non-caffeinated fluids. -
I wouldn't worry too much if you don't feel pain, but why not call your surgeon's office it and run it by them to put your mind at rest?

Obesity and Nature Versus Nurture: What Do You Think?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It is both nature and nurture, as well as a mix of choice and chance. -
Very few calories.. Stalled weight loss, and the not full feeling
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Lisa1996's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes, you need to cut yourself some slack. Almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. Just focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -

At what point does the obsession stop?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to her1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You didn't mention Protein at all. Are you able to reach your protein target within 800 calories? When you say you are trying to fit whatever you want in 800 calories, what does that mean? I agree that 800 calories seems very low and unsustainable. Appetite suppressants seem like the last thing you would need. You don't need to be starving yourself. The great thing about my sleeved life so far is that I get to eat smaller amounts of delicious, nutritious, high quality food and be satisfied. A therapist sounds like a great idea. You may also want to consider OA, too. The website, OA.Org, has meeting lists, literature, and even podcasts that you might find useful. -
You want to take health advise from Coke?

My friend and I had surgery the same day but...

Just be a supportive friend and do you. You can only take care of yourself. Hopefully, they can see positive results from your example. -
Hard to believe
Inner Surfer Girl replied to charley27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best of luck. Let us know how you are doing through the process. I do hope you are doing this for yourself and your health, and not because of unrealistic expectations from your mom, though. -

Inner Surfer Girl replied to OKCPirate's topic in Rants & Raves
Coca-cola is a marketing company that sells sugar and water or fake sugar and water, or just water (Dasani anyone?). -
For me, at a little over 1 year out, the answer is: yes and no. Yes, I can taste the flavor of food. No, some foods just do not appeal to me any more. It is like I have a more sensitive/refined palate.

One month post op and stuck in a stall...

There is nothing wrong with having rest days. As far as I am concerned I need them. -

I know your NUT said not to change anything, but 600-800 calories seems REALLY low. -
I am so sorry you are experiencing this. I am convinced that many of my issues with food/eating are directly related to how I deal with stress. I am so glad to hear that you and your husband have an appointment for counseling. You have already received some great advice. I would also recommend you do something nice for yourself. Maybe schedule a massage and/or do something creative -- take an art class or something similar. (These are my latest solutions for everything!) Sending hugs.
