    I'm torn..

I was sleeved April 20, 2015 and couldn't be happier with my surgery, recovery, and progress so far.

    How did you lose weight?

I'm not sure why there's so much negativity about checking the scale often... I'm pre-op but I know every time I'm trying to lose weight I check the scale... As pre-op I don't expect to see daily changes, anytime I step on and it goes down it motivates me to keep up the good work... If it goes up often as it often does it tell me I need to try harder.I do understand the weight loss process after surgery is somewhat different . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Part of the issue is that there is not a direct relationship between what you do in the short term and the numbers on the scale. If you follow your program, you will see results on the scale in the medium and long term, but the short term -- not so much. Some people see the number on the scale as permission to indulge (I ate a box of donuts, but when I got on the scale the ne to say, I lost a pound), or as reason to restrict (I ate the required Protein yesterday and gained a pound, so tomorrow I am going to starve myself). There really isn't anything inherently wrong with weighing frequently if you can keep it in perspective. If, like many people, you let the numbers on the scale influence your mood or how you respond emotionally, then it may be a good idea to weigh infrequently.

    Pay day - buying staples

Get some Water enhancers line: Mio drops/crystal light. There are generic versions. Decaf tea/Herb teas I liked ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates better than the Isopure during my clear phase.

    Post Surgery Bowling

I would think so. What does your surgeon say?

Scrambled egg with a tablespoon of Mediterranean goat cheese spread and fresh, roasted asparagus for dinner. Yum!

Stomach made too small from surgery

If you are being sleeved, and you have a skilled/experienced surgeon, you really don't have any reason to worry about this. When you are sleeved, your entire digestive system remains intact. The only thing that is removed is the stretchy part of the stomach. Malnutrition should only be a danger if you do not follow your post-op program. As long as you get enough Protein and fluids and take your Vitamins and supplements as directed post-op you will be fine. Long-term, you just need to eat nutritiously.

Exceeding the lifting limit of 25 pounds?

Glad to hear. Thanks for the update.

    MyFitnessPal: Aggregate Research

This is interesting. But, it shows how flawed it is to do this kind of research without complete information. It would be helpful information to know which users were following a supervised doctor's diet, were bariatric patients, and/or weight loss surgery patients. http://www.fastcoexist.com/3056448/want-to-lose-weight-eat-like-these-people-more-fiber-more-fat?utm_content=bufferfd76c&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Depression has returned and struggling with grief

I am so sorry for your loss. I was able to be with one of my grandmother's the last week of her life. I was at her bedside with my mom and it was one of the most bittersweet experiences I have ever had. Sending hugs. I hope you will make an appointment with your doctor to talk about your meds and depression. You may also want to find some grief counseling. That can be another life changing experience. Unfortunately, we all experience grief at different times throughout our lives. There is a great benefit to learning how to grieve in healthy ways.
  10. I am enjoying doing the little things: Being able to stop and run into a drugstore on the way to an appointment, going back inside when I forgot something, taking flowers to my mom on Mother's Day rather than having them delivered, etc. I have started gardening in pots on my patio this year and am planning some flower beds.
  11. Stick with the proteins and vegetables and avoid the starches (rice, chips, tortilla's), etc.

What Is Your Brilliant Substitute for a Craving?

I have been mixing things into my cottage cheese. So, for instance, I have been making a Greek salad with cottage cheese. A bit of feta, a tbsp of tzatziki, some Kalamata olives, pickled peppers, and tomato makes a feast. Yesterday, I mixed in a tbsp of Mediterranean goat cheese spread in my scrambled egg.

    I have two questions!?!?

I wouldn't use anything with high fructose corn syrup. As to oil, it depends on the kind of oil.

I use a MisfitShine and it synchs with MyFitnessPal, too.

Exceeding the lifting limit of 25 pounds?

Don't wait until Tuesday. Your surgeon should have given you a 24 hour phone number. There is nothing wrong with using it.

    Sweets

Frankly, between the chocolate protein shakes, chocolate protein pudding, chocolate calcium chews, chocolate is not something I go without. I also like the caramel calcium chews.

    My Dinner

I have Brussels sprouts and asparagus. I went with the asparagus this evening.

    I have two questions!?!?

With 6 grams of carbs and 25 grams of Protein, it should be fine. One easy rule of thumb is to keep carbs under 10 and protein over 10.

    May 26th 2016: my rebooting

Sounds like you are doing great! Just keep walking and sipping. I was surprised myself how quickly I was able to get up and move around after surgery. If you get in your fluids and protein you should bounce back in no time.
