    Food Tracking Confusion

If you measure a portion and don't finish it, do you finish it later? If so, then just track the portion you ate based on what you measured. For instance if you eat 1/2 a Greek yogurt then record the 1/2 serving and then when you finish the other half record the second 1/2 (or 1/3 or quarter or whatever).

    NSV - sweets

I was at a local restaurant today and apparently, they had one chocolate cookie left (I hadn't noticed). They offered me the cookie and my first response was "no thank you". No thought, no desire, no regret...before WLS that would NEVER have happened.

    Help!

If food was a true comfort, you are a member of a minority. When most people, me included, finally take a hard look at overeating, it becomes apparent that comfort had no place. What I got was numbness, a turning off of what I wanted to be comforted against -- usually boredom, occasionally a response to an incident. What are some things that give you real pleasure and a sense of freedom? Singing, painting, gardening (well, not right at eight days after surgery), bike-riding (same temp prohibition), watching yourself with one eye on a mirror as you read Andrew Marvell aloud, making out (which knows no season)? Turn to whatever it is that makes you feel satisfied without putting you in a stupor. Maybe there's something you've been wanting to learn because it excites you. I'm talking real, soul-satisfying excitement and fulfillment....whatever makes you feel alive, creative and connected to the universe. I agree so much with this. In addition to the physical requirements one of the major critical success factors for me is doing something creative every day (or every chance I get). Photography, writing, art classes, etc.

Journey to WLS may be over for me

You don't have to have WLS. You could choose not to have it. Or, you could choose not to have it now. If you do postpone, just keep in mind that you may have to redo much of the pre-op testing, etc. if you wait a while. It is up to you.

    Self-pay patient questions

It's actually offered via the surgeon's office. So, if they don't offer it I would definitely look more carefully at the surgeon.

    Newbie to gyms. Freaking out!

Why not build muscle? Muscle is what burns fat. You definitely want to do some sort of strength/resistance training. My exercise of choice is swimming. I swim laps, do Water aerobics on occasion, use water weights, stretch, etc. --- all in the water.
  9. If, in fact, she is threatened by your weight loss it might be a good idea to talk to a counselor or therapist about how to set boundaries with your mom.

    Metabolism Boosts

    Pay? I don't think so. I didn't.
  11. No, I don't have nausea or dizziness. Has your mother talked to her surgeon or PCP about her issues?
  12. Eat slowly and really pay attention and you will start to know where the fine line between satisfied and one bite too many is. Some signals for me are: runny nose, sneezing, burping, or just discomfort.

    Self-pay patient questions

My surgeon requires Bliss insurance for self-pay folks. Personally, it looks like a great program.

    Eating out 5wks post-op

I had grilled salmon at a cookout during my soft foods phase. It sounds like a great choice. Just eat slowly, take small bites, and chew thoroughly. Enjoy yourself!

Hair is falling out and nails are chipping/weak

Many people lose hair as a result of surgery and anesthesia. Getting enough protein is critical for health, weight loss, and to minimize hair loss. 60 grams of protein seems really low. You may want to consider increasing your protein. It won't stop hair loss that is already in progress but should help going forward.

    Help!

I think what you are feeling is very common. If food has been your primary means of coping with stress then since you cannot use food to cope you may feel very uncomfortable. Talking with a counselor or therapist is a great strategy. Attending support group meetings and participating on BariatricPal can also be helpful. Also, you may want to consider Overeaters Anonymous. You can find meeting lists and other resources (like podcasts) online at OA.org. In the meantime, see if you can find other things to do when you want to eat: take a walk, journal, color, call a friend, etc. Focus on getting in your Protein and Fluid. Early out, I spent so much time sipping I really never has time to get hungry. It will get better.

Is 100 grams of protein too much for a woman?

I am 5' 6" but started at a much higher weight/BMI than you. My Protein target is 100 grams and will never go down.
