  1. It was a amazing day, I have been caring for my 90 year old neighbor that fell and broke his hip. I drove 6 hrs to pick him up a new scooter to get around in so he could come home. It's a great feeling when you do and give for others who really appreciate it. And he's has helped me threw this slump so much. He doesn't have anyone in my life neither do I. So we kinda take care of each other now. And I am so great full for all my blessings in life and he never takes anything for granted and it's a nice reminder sometimes........life is what you make it Jess Hall-Mcfarland This is so great!

    Surgery scares!

Unfortunately, I think the complications and issues get talked about much more than they actually happen --- everyone seems to know someone who knows someone who... The people who have no complications aren't nearly as interesting. I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of people having the surgery today, as contrasted to people who had surgery 10 or even 20 years ago, have very few complications if any.

    Surgeon Requirements?

Did he or she commit to email you something in a week? If so, I don't see a problem with calling and asking. Polite persistence can be helpful throughout the process. I received a notebook with all of the requirements listed at my first required class. The surgeon's staff also helped me make most of the appointments. The finance person provided me with a detailed list of requirements related to insurance, etc.

Protein shakes - no aspartame or splenda

I am not familiar with any off the top of my head. Someone else may have some suggestions. I suggest that you talk to someone at a store like GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe. Your NUT should also have some ideas.

    Your post op experience

Welcome! It is hard to say whether it is normal or not. I highly recommend you call your surgeon's office and talk to whoever is on call. They will know what questions to ask to determine whether or not it is something normal.
  8. You can sprinkle it like parmesan cheese, use it as a bread crumb or in sauces (gives a nutty cheesy flavour). I just use Parmesan cheese!

    Summer Reading

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out.
  10. Adding, the whole reason to do Protein shakes/supplements is to make sure we can consume enough protein until we are healed enough for more solid sources of protein. Protein is critical for healing.
  11. My surgeon was the exact opposite. He wanted us to prioritize getting in all of our protein as soon as we were cleared for fluids (after the leak test). He said there is no physical reason anyone couldn't drink 3 premier Proteins in one day. I credit getting in my 100 grams of protein every day with the ease of my recovery and success so far.

Not ready to embrace another stall!

My goal is 100 grams of protein and I was able to get that in right after surgery. It wasn't easy but with effort it can be done. If you eat frequent small protein-based meals and Snacks throughout the day you can do it.

What can I do with...Protein powder?

I just made a Breakfast of weight control oatmeal. I mixed in some chocolate pudding Protein powder and PB2 to up the protein and it was pretty good. While going through my stash looking for the protein pudding, I realized that I still have a lot of protein puddings, Fruit drinks, powders, Soups, etc. What are some of your most creative uses for Protein Powder beyond smoothies?

Stalls and Weight Gain shortly after surgery

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience weight fluctuations, slow downs, and stalls. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Avoid added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), starches, and fried foods. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. And, stay off the scale. If you are unsure about what your program entails or your progress so far, why not give your NUT a call to check in. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall!
  15. I was told to use Hibiclens from the neck down and to gargle with Listerine.

    Drinking problems

Blacking out is not good. That is plenty of reason not to drink in my opinion. I highly recommend that you talk to your PCP and maybe even consider visiting some AA meetings.

    Ball is Rolling....

I hope they also provided treatment for his PTSD? If that was the only thing keeping him from surgery it seems like rather than turning him down they would provide treatment and then reevaluate.

    Tragedy in Orlando

He was a wife-beating, homophobic, US citizen, who used an automatic weapon. What does this have to do with keeping people out of this country?

    Flu at 11 months out

I have heard that pedialyte may help, but definitely call your doctor for advise.
  20. My protein goal is 100 grams a day but I started at a much higher weight than you. My surgeon's protein guidelines are: 100 grams for all men and anyone with a starting BMI of over 50, and 80 grams for everyone else. As far out as you are you should be able to get more protein from food. What are you eating? Are you getting in all of your fluids? Are you taking all of your Vitamins and supplements as directed? Are you exercising? What does your NUT advise?

    Can I eat this?

Some ideas: Nothing (plain tuna or get the flavored tuna packets) Avocado A dab of real Mayo Aioli (I have some flavored aioli from Stonewall Kitchen that is really good.) Lowfat gravy Tzatziki sauce Pesto Salsa Bruschetta sauce

    Options...don't know what to do...

It may seem like the insurance hoops are burdensome and pointless, but there really is some method to the madness. The intent is that you will go into this surgery as well prepared and healthy as possible. They really do want you to succeed. Every pre-op test, clearance, class, and appointments is for your benefit. Best of luck in your journey.

    Need encouragement

I understand the uncertainty. All I can tell you that the surgery was the absolute easiest part of this whole process and the recovery was really easy compared to what I imagined. I assume that if you have gotten this far then you have chosen a skilled and experienced surgeon that you believe will do a good job. Chances are pretty darn good that you are going to be just fine. Keep us updated on how you are doing.
  24. Did you check with Syntrax? I know last year that offered a sample pack of a variety of their Nectars for a reasonable price.
