  1. I don't remember where I heard about them first. I do remember my NUT talking about not expecting to leave the hospital skinny. Not long after, I told a friend (who happens to be a nurse), that I was having surgery and the first thing she said was that I was going to be so skinny when I came home from the hospital. I had to tell her, "Actually, not."

    Feeling defeated

That's a great question at 1 month out I'm only able to do 500-700 day. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App I'm almost 3 months out and I'm between 400 to 650 per day still. I've heard going above 800 during this initial weight loss can be harmful to weight loss. Idk. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App That sounds really low for three months out, especially if you are exercising. What does your NUT say?

Lotion with Vit. E AND Keratin?

I likePalmer's cocoa butter and cocoa oil. I know it has vitamin E but am not sure about the keratin.

    Protein goal

As someone else suggested, have you tried Syntrax nectar? ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates are light and fruity, too. Have you tried protein pudding or Soup? I like the WonderSlim puddings and the ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups. unjury chicken soup is good, too. You may need to eat more frequently if you can't find a protein supplement you like.

    Looking for advice

Congratulations on making the decision to get healthy and for getting a surgery date. Personally, I wouldn't dream of dictating what surgical tools my surgeon uses. I chose an outstanding surgeon with an outstanding track record. He is a specialist. If you have chosen a good, experienced surgeon you should feel confident leaving the decision on how he performs surgery up to him. If you are not confident in his skills then you may want to reconsider.

    8 Days Post Op

I agree. No wonder you are hungry. You are literally starving if you are not eating protein. Protein is critical for healing.

    Protein goal

If you are two months out can you not eat food? What happens when you eat things like Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, turkey, tuna or other fish, chicken, etc.?

Successful weight loss after 6 months? Anyone?

There isn't anything magic about six months that would keep you from being able to lose weight, especially if you are following your program. I would need to see details before even beginning to hazard a guess about why you may be experiencing a stall right now. Is this a weight you have maintained at in the past? Are you tracking your food? Are you drinking at least 64 oz of Fluid a day? What is your Protein target? Are you getting in at least that much protein every day? Are you avoiding added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), starches, and fried food? Are you eating enough good carbs (vegetables, fruits, and whole grains)? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed? Are you exercising? Have you talked to your NUT about your concerns? What did he or she suggest? 10. When was the last time you did something for the first time? I have been doing lots of things for the first time in a long time lately.

    Feeling Good

The Language of Letting Go June 17th, 2016 Feeling Good Having boundaries doesn't complicate life; boundaries simplify life. —Beyond Codependency There is a positive aspect to boundary setting. We learn to listen to ourselves and identify what hurt us and what we don't like. But we also learn to identify what feels good. When we are willing to take some risks and begin actively doing so, we will enhance the quality of our life. What do we like? What feels good? What brings us pleasure? Whose company do we enjoy? What helps us to feel good in the morning? What's a real treat in our life? What are the small, daily activities that make us feel nurtured and cared for? What appeals to our emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical self? What actually feels good to us? We have deprived ourselves too long. There is no need to do that anymore, no need. If it feels good, and the consequences are self-loving and not self-defeating, do it! Today, I will do for myself those little things that make life more pleasurable. I will not deny myself healthy treats

    what to tell the surgeon?

Welcome! I don't think you need to worry too much about what you tell your surgeon. Just be open and honest about your physical challenges and your history. You could even print this post out and share it. I had to fill out a long form about my physical condition and history. Best of luck with the process.

    Ways to celebrate weight loss?

I make appointments for massages when I hit periodic milestones. I love glass, so I have bought myself some nice art glass pieces at some of my big milestones. Massages and mani/pedis are my standard rewards.

    Water and Medications

For me, I didn't have any trouble taking my meds with a little Water right after surgery. Sipping was difficult at first. Plain water was the most difficult to drink but other fluids were easier. It may be a challenge, but if you sip constantly you can get it all in. Definitely talk to your surgeon, though. For me all fluids counted towards my Fluid total. So I counted my Protein supplements toward my fluid total. You may need to mix protein with your required fluids in order to get everything in. ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, Syntrax nectar, and Premier Protein were very helpful early out.

    Feeling defeated

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience stalls and slow downs in weight loss and almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. Just follow your program. Focus on getting at least 64 oz of Fluid and reaching your Protein target, every day. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. Stay off the scale. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall.

My Big Fat Fabulous Life 2016 Season

I just got home so didn't see it tonight. I have it on my DVR so will catch up with it later.
  18. Then, great. If you weren't told to do so then don't do it.
  19. You will definitely need to eat more than 2 to 3 times a day. Are you also using protein supplements?

    1200 calorie pre-op diet

Just follow your surgeon's directions. Not everyone e has a liquid diet for pre-op. I didn't.
  21. I felt very angry and upset when first exposed to this technology a few years ago....I even wrote an article about how abhorrent the concept was. Every time I get this angry, I start doubting my feelings. So I started researching the procedure and device and talked to a few patients that are using it. I got to know the procedure a little better, understood their expectations, needs, and results. What I see are patients benefiting from this method with an outstanding safety profile... Sometimes our mind tricks us with hate and anger.... I don't like this so I turn it into something more rational for me. I recently heard a very moving presentation from one of the investigators and a patient. I personally don't know that I'd recommend it, but the truth is that now that it's approved doctors and patients will decide if this succeeds or fails. Thanks for this, Alex. The first thing I thought of when I heard about this was that there must be a good application for it but not necessarily for weight loss. I have heard of people that due to cancer or other digestive diseases have lost all ability to eat food. The fact that they couldn't eat, even if they could get nutrition in other ways, severely impacted their will to live. There is something primal about our need to eat.
  22. I don't know what your Protein target is, but I am sure it isn't 40 grams. 40 grams of protein and 400 calories at 10 weeks post-op is dangerously low. My protein target is 100 grams and the minimum that my surgeon prescribes is 80 grams. Protein is critical for healing and weight loss. Whether you feel like eating or not you have got to get in your nutrition. Set an alarm and eat even if you don't feel like it. Have you talked to your NUT about your challenges and concerns? I highly recommend you make an appointment.

    I'm a swimmer!

Back in the old days, when I was in better shape, there was a time when I swam a mile every day. Since I have started swimming laps, I wasn't counting laps but went by the clock. Working up to an hour of laps. After a while I got a misfit shine that counts laps. Come to find out I had been swimming over a mile in that hour for a while! It is a miracle!
  24. Not all the bacteria has time to regrow. You go in with a lot less than you would have if you didn't follow the pre-op instructions. Just have faith that your surgeon has a reason to ask you to do something: to give you the best chance of a healthy, complication free recovery.
  25. To the OP, another huge difference between my pre-op and post-op life is learning to deal with the inevitable stalls. Pre-op, stalls were generally when I gave up. I can't do that anymore. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
