New relationship after sleeve surgery
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If I got engaged to someone and he hadn't told me he had had such a life-changing surgery, I would re-evaluate whether I really knew him at all. I agree. Honest and open communication is a critical success factor for any intimate relationship. -
I know. Awful news.

Have you run this by your NUT? I would think complex carbs or even a piece of fresh fruit would be much better than fruit juice. -
Losing weight with sleeve
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Jesm1029's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am over 1 year out and still losing. I started at an extremely high BMI so have a long way to go. It really depends on how much you have to lose. -
Merci! Joyeux quatorze juliet! (Autocorrect really loves this one.)

Are you able to get up and walk. Walking and moving around is really the best thing you can do. -
This damn stall
Inner Surfer Girl replied to EmilyJune's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Frankly, the stress from working 3 jobs is probably not helpful. Other than that, stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight you will experience stalls. If you have already consulted your NUT then there really isn't anything you need to do but ride it out. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall. -

Fluids/purees stage!

Try Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and soup. -
Just bring your fresh, quality cheese, meat, vegetables, and fruit. Use a real table cloth and napkin, and dine for your meals and breaks. Maybe they will be jealous of your food. Or, not but you will be the winner anyway.

If anyone is looking for a good summer read, J. Todd Scott's "The Far Empty" is really good. It is set in Texas near the border. Sort of a Friday Night Lights meets No Country for Old Men.

Elimination of Gas
Inner Surfer Girl replied to melvin5ft2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't remember how long (maybe a few days). Just keep walking. You may also want to try a little easy stretching. Try raising your hands over your head. I had some shoulder pain with mine and a heating pad seemed to help. It gets better. -

Feeling frustrated-Not going to meet the goal
Inner Surfer Girl replied to FabFemale's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am surprised he gave you a goal related to pounds. For me, the most effective goals are related to actions/inputs and not results, Following your program. Getting in your fluids and protein. Avoiding starches and added sugars. Taking your Vitamins and supplements. Exercising. Etc. are better goals. If you do that, you will see weight loss. It might be more, it might be less, or it might be exactly 25 pounds, but none of us can control that number. My guess is that 25 pounds is a guesstimate and not a proscription /requirement anyway. Just my thoughts. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall! -

How are you guys getting all your liquids and proteins in?!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to jenc427's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a full time job for a while post-op. You may have to get out pen and paper and make a schedule. Set short term milestones/goals and just keep at it. It gets easier. -
How do you get in enough Calories a day?

There is always peanut butter. -
I find her incredibly annoying and sad. Tonight's revelation: she has never bought her own car or had a car payment. She is always putting her dance class in a position to perform unprepared but it's all about her. She participated/performed in a PARADE and didn't seem to smile, laugh, or have one bit of fun. It seems like it would be right up her alley since she is so starved for attention. She has absolutely NO boundaries.

Good, Lord. She has never had a car payment or paid for her own car. She has got some serious growing up to do. -
Have you read The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lach? @@Inner Surfer Girl Thanks for reminding me about Henrietta Lacks. I had heard of it and meant to read it but it slipped my mind... I just finished it and it was truly a great read. Thanks again! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I am so glad to hear that you liked it. I think it is definitely a must-read, especially for people who like science but also for the social/cultural issues.

Emotionally abusive relationship not fixed by weight loss
Inner Surfer Girl replied to provenzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad you are able to see this clearly. It is interesting to me how many of us accept someone else's bad behavior as acceptable or even deserved. Now, that you realize he doesn't get to use you as an excuse for his bad behavior you can really drop a lot of "weight". How much does he weigh by the way? Stay safe. If he is this controlling when you are compliant, he may show a much nastier side when you aren't. Take care of yourself first. There is a reason I am single. -
19lbs 1month out
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Janiegirl1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
500 calories is really low. You probably will experience slow weight loss until you can get your calories higher. You don't mention protein. Getting enough protein is critical for healing and weight loss. What is your protein target? How are you doing at reaching that target. My guess is that at 500 calories you aren't. That said, stalls and slow downs are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing a significant amount of weight. We all experience stalls and just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. I highly recommend you: 1) let go of the idea of predicting your own weight loss and comparing it to other people, and 2) stay off the scale. You may want to weigh infrequently, especially early out. Just follow your program. Make sure you are getting at least 64 oz of Fluid a day. Reach or exceed your protein target every day. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. Stay off the scale. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall. -
Looking for help with my worries….
Inner Surfer Girl replied to TracyBar's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You have been through the wringer. It sounds to me like this needs to be documented and that you need to escalate your concern so. Does the NHS have patient advocates? Who oversees the hospital said? Is there any kind of oversight? What you detail sounds like a train wreck of system, program, and individual failures. This is just not right.
