    Weight Stall

I agree. It is very normal. How are you doing at getting in all of your Protein and fluids? Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Post surgery expectations

Yes, it is normal. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience stalls and slow-downs throughout our weight loss journey. Almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. Stay off the scale. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall.
  4. I think loss of appetite is the body's way of gearing down at the end of life. You know how everyone says that you never see old, obese people in nursing homes? In my opinion, one of the major reasons is that our bodies do start to waste away at the end. Loss of appetite is part of the process. Forgetting to eat is part of that process, too. I had a couple of obese great-aunts and as they reached a really advanced age and were ill enough to be in a nursing home they had lost a lot of weight.

    Risks on WLS

I have known people who had WLS who have died. I also know people who have not had WLS who have died. I have known people who are not obese who have died prematurely. Unfortunately, we all die. The older we get, the more people we know die. It is part of life.

    Risks on WLS

According to my surgeon the biggest risks are blood clots and pneumonia. They do a great deal to mitigate those risks. For me it came down to the fact that I was at much higher risk of dying from obesity than from surgery. Talk to your surgeon about your fears. He or she should be able to help you put them in perspective.

How to Make the Most Out of Buffets

Sounds delicious. My sister-in-law is Chinese so when she is in town we take her to our local buffet restaurant. Now, my plate looks more like hers (except for the starches) in volume than it used to before my sleeve.

I haven't mentioned my surgery on social media. I rarely post photos of myself but when I do, I don't mention WLS or weight loss.

    A new life

Isn't it great when you can start looking forward to the future with hope and optimism because of WLS? You can do anything you want. We are sometimes the only thing holding us back. Setting a goal, like going to college is very doable. It helps to break your goal down into small steps so it isn't as overwhelming. This would be a great time to consider talking to a counselor or therapist if you don't already have one. A good counselor can help you to find ways to overcome barriers to reaching your dreams. Whether it is addressing your anxiety or learning new coping skills, one-on-one and group counseling would be a good start.

How to Make the Most Out of Buffets

We have a local Chinese buffet that my family likes to go to. The few times I have been I have pretty much just stuck to proteins (baked fish, shrimp, chicken, etc.) and some vegetables (like broccoli). Oh, and I still start with hot tea.

Need a kick in the pants at the Jersey Shore!

You have a lot to deal with on your own. This is a great time to focus on you. As others have already said, you have an awesome life to look forward to. This is a great time to marshal all of your resources. Are you seeing a therapist? Attending support groups? Participating in a faith community? All of these can help you create the healthy life you deserve. You may also want to consider attending some 12-step recovery group meetings like Overeaters Anonymous (OA.org). This program can be very helpful in helping us deal with emotional eating. When you are able regular exercise will be very helpful for both your body and soul. I swim and nothing feels as good as being in the Water. Learning to surf is one of my life goals but I am really looking forward to just being able to take a long walk on the beach. Volunteering is also a way to get out of our own head and do something for someone else. For me, practicing creativity is a big part of my program. I like to write, take photographs, attend classes and workshops, take painting and other art classes, etc. I try to incorporate creativity into my daily life. Surgery and recover will be a full-time job, at least for a couple of months so this is a great time to be selfish and focus on your own needs. You will get through this!

    Movie theater snack

I have learned I really don't need a snack, especially if I can drink water. Plain ice water at most movie theaters is really cheap if not free if you don't want to bring a bottle yourself.

    Stall

Patience is exactly what you need. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you plan to lose a significant amount of weight, you will experience periodic stalls. Advice? Just follow your program. Track your food. Make sure you are getting at least 64 oz of Fluid. Get in all of your protein. For me that is at least 100 grams a day. Avoid added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), starches, and fried foods. Practice eating mindfully. Eat slowly, take small bites, and chew thoroughly. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall.
  17. You may or may not lose some hair due to the surgery and you will probably have some loose skin, especially if you lose a significant amount of weight. The best thing you can do is to stay hydrated and get in all of your Protein, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise. Biotin may help with hair regrowth but probably won't prevent hair loss which is due to the shock of surgery and anesthesia.

    Dreading the Nausea!

It isn't necessarily part of it. I didn't experience much nausea, probably because they gave me an anti-nausea patch to wear behind my ear for a while after surgery.

    Telling my daughter...

Personally, I would be honest about not only the surgery but the struggles that lead to the decision as well as the struggles after. My nephew is 14 and lives out of state. I have been open with everyone about my surgery but am not quite sure how much any of the nieces or nephews understand. We stopped for a drive-thru lunch today in the way to a movie and I got a grilled chicken salad and ate the toppings off, leaving most of the lettuce. I mentioned my surgery and then asked if he even knew what kind of surgery I had. He didn't know so I gave him a quick description of the sleeve. In saying that, I don't think you have to share everything but see what she is curious about and wants to know.

Feeling frustrated-Not going to meet the goal

You're welcome for sure! Hmmm....that's weird. I can't see Babb's post anymore either. @@Alex Brecher , where did Babb's posts go? SO STRANGE!!! This board has been wacky lately. I flagged her as a spammer in error and deleted all her posts. We are working on restoring them. Oh no! I hope you are able to restore her posts soon. She always has some great insight and I love her explanation of the three week stall.

It was me on the TLC show "my FAT saved my life"

I haven't seen that show. I'll have to look for it. Were you sleeved or did you have the bypass? What do your labs look like? Why are you using Protein shakes? If you need them you may need to switch to something with higher carbs in order to slow or reverse the weight loss. How are you doing at getting in all of your protein? Are you still tracking your food? How much are you eating? Have you talked to a NUT lately about your concerns? Are you seeing a therapist? I know body dysmorphia can be common with rapid weight loss. A good therapist should be able to help you with this. Are you receiving treatment for the ulcers?

Feeling frustrated-Not going to meet the goal

Have you tried upping your protein a bit? Personally, I would try for closer to 75 grams than 65 grams, if you aren't willing to increase your protein.
