    Slow Loss

Instead of focusing on the numbers on the scale, try focusing on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Stalling early after surgery?

You don't mention Protein. 500 calories seems low but the most important number is your protein. What is your protein target? Are you getting at least that much every day. A stall about three weeks after surgery is very common. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Protein shakes - alternatives?

Are you looking for Meal Replacement or just Protein supplements? I don't know what the protein source is but you might want to look at something like ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. You'll have to check the label. I have heard of pea protein supplements but have never tried any.

    Tackling Depression

At 5 days post-OP, you should already be losing weight. Call your doctor and see if he can see you about this. I disagree. You are swollen and healing and we're pumped full of IV fluids at the hospital. Stay off the scale. Unless you have pain or complications, your first follow-up appointment is soon enough to see your doctor. Just follow your program and focus on getting in all of your fluids and Protein. You need both to heal. The weight loss will come.

    Care after leaving the hospital

You will need someone to drive you home. You won't be able to drive until you are off of pain meds. I stayed home mostly by myself. I live near my mom and she checked on me throughout the day. If you don't have any complications you shouldn't need anyone. It would be nice to have someone check in on you though.

    3 days away

You have got this! The pre-op anticipation was the worst part of the process for me. The actual surgery was a piece of cake.

    Sweet potatoes?

I could have them during my soft food stage (I didn't have a puree stage).

    Shoulder Pain after rapid weightloss

No, I haven't noticed this or heard anyone talk about it. Have you talked to your doctor about it? How is your posture? Are you exercising? Maybe a physical therapist can help.

Scale going up a little by little.....

Congratulations on the weight loss and for maintaining for so long. I agree that a good idea would be to go back to basics: Protein, Fluid, while foods, avoid starches and added sugars. Have you talked to your NUT lately about your challenges and developing a good maintenance good plan? Are you exercising?

Which Food Did (Or Will) You Miss the Most?

There are some things that I miss the idea of rather than the actual item. When I see things like raspberry cheese cake or cinnamon rolls or stuffed French toast I find myself thinking: there was a time I would have been all over that. But, the thought of actually eating it now doesn't even sound good.

    FIRST APPOINTMENT!

Welcome. This is an exciting, life-changing process. I see that you posted on the bypass forum. I highly recommend you be open-minded and talk with your surgeon about what procedure is right for you. There are other options besides bypass. I was sleeved April 20, 2015 and couldn't be happier with my experience and my progress so far. I still have a long way to go but my life is completely different than it was even a year ago. Also, keep in mind that the process for preparing for surgery can take a lot of time. Be prepared to be patient, persistence, and practice positivity and perseverance. If you get a chance to have an earlier appointment I recommend you take it. The pre-op process can take some time.
  14. Eat a lot of lower fat proteins (turkey, tuna, Greek yogurt, etc) and non-starchy vegetables and drink tons of water.

    Water Weight

I don't know that you really know other than watching for trends (for instance knowing when you retain Water or are getting ready to have your period). The best thing to do is to stay off the scale and not weigh very often if you tend to let the numbers on the scale drive you crazy and can't deal with small weight fluctuations. Early out I only weighed at my doctors appointments. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience weight fluctuations, slow downs, and stalls. Freaking out!

You say you just started drinking Protein shakes on Saturday. How were you getting in your protein before that? It sounds to me like your expectations are a little off. Your primary goal in the early days is healing. Weight loss will come. Until you are getting in all of your protein and fluids the numbers on the scale are pretty worthless. I highly recommend that you stay off the scale ESPECIALLY if your response is to stay in bed because you don't like the number. That is the issue that would concern me the most. Are you seeing a counselor or therapist? If this is your reaction now I cannot imagine what you will do when you hit your first stall. Just follow your program. Make sure you are getting 64 oz of Fluid. Make sure you are reaching your protein target every day. Avoid added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), starches, and fried foods. Take you Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. Stay off the scale. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall.

    Gallstone medication - reactions?

I was prescribed Ursodial for 6-months post-op and didn't notice any side effects.

    Syntrax/Nectar Protein Shakes

Fuzzy Navel is my favorite. If you are looking for other clear fruit-flavored supplements, the ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates are good, too.
  20. 85% is just an approximation. What is removed is the fundus which is the stretchy part of the stomach. The non-stretchy part is left intact. Once healed, your stomach works exactly the way it is supposed to except that it won't stretch if you stuff it full of extra food. The reason it works, if you follow your program, is that you have room for nutrition, but there isn't much room for low/no nutrition foods.

    Catching up—kitchen overhaul et al.,

My sister gave me a Misfit Shine for Christmas and I love it. Especially because I swim and it is great for tracking my swimming.

    Feeling light headed when standing

I haven't. This is definitely a question for your doctor. I doubt it has anything to do with your sleeve since you have been sleeved for two years. What does your blood pressure look like? Are you staying hydrated?

    What was your protein goal?

Mine is 100 grams. For my surgeon's program it is 100 grams for all men and anyone with a starting BMI of over 50, 80 grams for everyone else. If your goal is 70-80 I would recommend aiming for the higher number.

@@_Laura_, I don't see where you have posted anything since your initial post. How are you doing? Have you been able to find the help you need? Let us know how you are doing.

    Cream soups

I liked the ProtiDiet cream of chicken and tomato basil soups because they are easy to make and high in protein.
