Complications from surgery and self pay
Inner Surfer Girl replied to kingcake's topic in Insurance & Financing
My surgeon requires self payers to obtain BLIS insurance. It covers complications and is offered through the bariatric practice. -
Still stalled - and hungry. Where's the magic weight loss i was promised?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Seastars's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgeon says the opposite; most people don't eat enough protein. My protein target is 100 grams (all men and women who start out with a BMI of over 50). Women who start out under a BMI 50 have a target of 80 grams. Did/does your protein target change to 80 at below 50? Just curious. Nope. It never changes down. His reasoning is that with less protein, my body/brain reads reduced protein as a famine. -
Did i really need the surgery?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to jaysmm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By the way, are you taking a PPI? Stomach acid can mimic hunger. Are you getting enough fluids? The feeling of hunger can really be dehydration/thirst. Are you getting in all of your Protein? If not, you may really be hungry. -

Did i really need the surgery?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to jaysmm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is normal is to have a bit of buyers remorse right after surgery. You are uncomfortable, still healing, probably dehydrated, and experiencing major adjustments. I highly recommend that you stay off the scale, focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, rest and give yourself time to heal, and be gentle with yourself. You just had major surgery. Whether or not you think you needed the surgery, you had it so making up your mind to make the most of your tool is really the only way forward (in my opinion). Keep us posted on how you are doing. -

Is all of your cholesterol high? There is good and bad cholesterol. Also, high cholesterol is not always necessarily that way because of diet. Do you exercise?

Ok so how bad is this gonna hurt?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to pixystix0116's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fortunate. I wouldn't have really called anything I felt "pain" except for a bit in my shoulder due to the gas. I would describe it more as soreness, discomfort, fatigue. -
Counting soup as liquid 6 month postop?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to crazyplantlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I count all liquids but usually don't factor in soup just because it can have a lot of sodium. The more sodium I consume the more fluid I need. -
Exercise Question
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Photo925's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, 700-800 calories is on the low side. My Protein target is 100 grams. How much protein are you consuming? How much Water? If you are exercising regularly you may need even more water. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -
Apparently I'm Not Losing!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to reducer623's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are still healing from major surgery. How are you doing at getting in all of your Protein and fluids? What is your protein target? Are you getting in at least that much every day? It sounds counterintuitive but until you are able to eat enough the numbers on the scale are pretty worthless as a measure of your progress. Inner Surfer Girl replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with you so much! I am pre-op right now and I have been losing weight with some stalls. I would have messed up by now because my previous thinking would have been "I'm depriving myself for nothing." Since I can't quit because I need to keep going to have the surgery, it has taught me some patience. I'm going into my 4th month and haven't given up. Usually it's the 3rd month. Good news is I have lost about 23lbs and while it's not coming off as fast as I would like, it has taught me more patience Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App Patience, polite persistence, and perseverance have been very important for me in this journey. -

Thanks! I appreciate it. The visual image really helps me. Especially the idea of my body as a massive warehouse full of shelves, fork lifts, conveyor belts, and little people in hard hats running around. -

For me, chicken can be too dry so I tend to choose darker meat chicken. Plain skinless, boneless breasts tend to be D-R-Y even with sauce. -

Week 3 - purée stage - how do u know when to stop ?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to pnt38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just go slow. You will start to learn what satisfies you and what is one bite too many. It helps to weigh and measure your food. But, something like an egg (depending on the size of an egg) is fairly easy to count in MyFitness Pal as a serving without measuring. Practice eating mindfully. Take small bites, chew thoroughly, put your utensil down between bites, and pay attention to how you are feeling. You will start to learn what works. -

high protein low fat meals for after
Inner Surfer Girl replied to anewmee's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
In my program, spaghetti would not be a good choice. Meatballs without spaghetti or Pasta would. Choose a low fat Protein (turkey, tuna, fish, etc.), use a lowfat gravy or sauce to make it moist, and add a non-starchy vegetable. The World According to Eggface is a great source of recipes. -
