    Beginning stages

Your sister only wants you to experience pain and miserable parts of the surgery? How messed up is that? Best of luck with your surgery. Since you don't have support at home you will have to build your own support network. Your bariatric team and BariatricPal are great places to start. You may also want to attend bariatric support group meetings. See if your surgeon's office or the person who does your psych clearance can suggest a good therapist. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

    Big day tomorrow! :)

Best of luck with your surgery. As to food, no, Inwas required to be on clear liquids 24 hours before surgery and nothing by mouth after midnight the day before surgery.

    Low Energy

Rest, some walking, getting enough fluids and protein, and time will go a long way to getting your energy back.

    5 days post op

Since you are 5 days out, are you still in clear liquids? If so, you could probably have the chicken noodle soup of you strained out the chicken and noodles and just drank the broth. What does your post-op food plan specify for this stage?

My mind is completely sabotaging me!

Since you have a good support team (medical and therapist) and consider yourself a spiritual person, have you considered attending Overeaters Anonymous meetings, too? OA can be a tremendous help with food addiction with tools and resources to help you deal with many of the challenges you are facing. You can find meeting lists (in person and via phone, all over the world), podcasts, literature, and other resources online at OA.org.

    Advice ...

Have you talked to your doctor about your issues?

    Alcohol.

Why would it have been rude not to drink champagne? You could have put water in your glass. Or, just lifted your glass. Or, any number of things. No one, not a pregnant woman, recovering alcoholic, someone recovering from surgery, teatotaler, Baptist, etc., etc., should EVER be forced to drink alcohol or anything else because of politeness or for any other reason. It is possible to politely and tactfully set boundaries for ourselves. Learning to do so is an invaluable skill and seems like it would be a great topic for a pre-op workshop or bariatric support group meeting.
  9. You should definitely be consuming protein. What is your protein target? Protein is critical for healing and weight loss.

    Weight, Protein & Exercise Goals

Why only eat 2 meals a day? To me, that is a sure way to wreck your metabolism. My protein target is 100 grams a day. So, I have to eat frequent small meals and Snacks. 60 grams of protein is on the low side. Protein is critical for healing and weight loss. It also keeps our metabolism stoked. I highly recommend you do everything you can to get your fluids up. You definitely don't want to wind up in the ER due to dehydration. 48 oz is low, especially if you are exercising. I also recommend that instead of focusing on a number on the scale, you focus on getting in all of your fluids and protein. In my opinion, not getting enough Fluid and not eating more often is going to negatively impact your weight loss. Staying off the scale can be a good strategy if you let the numbers on the scale influence your emotions. Also, please keep in mind that none of us lose at a constant or steady rate. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. Everyone stalls, and just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks post-op. I don't know when you had surgery. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    What to do?

If you are worried about not having any summer clothes, I personally wouldn't worry too much. I tend to always overpack on beach trips and only wind up wearing the basics. All you really need is a bathing suit, sandals, and a a cover-up or sundress for dinner. Depending on what size you are now/will possibly be, you might even be able to buy what you need at the beach. I have been wearing loose dresses all summer that fit over 200 pounds ago. Now they make good bathing suit cover ups.

    Sweats after eating

This is similar to my situation. Now post-op I'm struggling to eat. If it wasn't for my daughter I would go days without eating. I'm almost 4 weeks out no hunger feeling what's so ever. My doctor said I'm not losing enough cuz I need to eat and drink my protein shakes. All I had all day yesyerday was some scrambled eggs and I barely finished it. I don't know what to do I'm just not in the mood to eat. Food goes down with no problems just don't have an appetite Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App You have to eat and get in your protein and fluids whether or not you are in the mood. Protein is critical for healing and for weight loss.
  14. Yeah NO protein drinks at all. I asked today and was flatly refused. I've been keeping up with my liquids fine. HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 275 DOS 08/09/16 No nutrients other than what's in the broth would have me in VERY BAD HUMOR I'm sorry you're stuck with such a severe set of guidelines...there's no wiggle room at all in your printed post-op dietary instructions? Just seems kind of harsh No I called the office and was told no. It's just until Thursday which is my follow up and I'm hoping for food. HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 275 DOS 08/09/16 I suppose my doc doesn't feel that way HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 275 DOS 08/09/16 Wow!

Shoulder pain - ice or heat?

I used a heating pad. Walking, moving, and a heating pad helped with my shoulder pain post-op.
  16. Me! I eat tuna on purpose and really like it. I like cottage cheese, too (tee hee).
  17. Even if you don't feel like it, you have got to get in your Protein. Have you tried any clear protein supplements: Isopure, ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, Syntrax nectar or similar? Protein is critical for healing.

    I didn't have a drain.

Great NSV for me this morning!

    Congratulations!
  20. I am so sorry you are experiencing the flooding. Please stay safe. To go back to oatmeal --- I AM NOT A DIETICIAN, but based on what my NUT has told me and my own research, I don't include good, whole grains (like oatmeal) in the same category as starches (white rice, bread, Pasta, corn, etc.). There is a place for some carbs (in moderation) in a healthy diet. Just be aware of why and how much you are eating them. You are still early out so the priority should be (based on my own knowledge and experience), Protein and fluids. If you choose to have oatmeal or a protein bar or your shoe, just make sure you track it and that you get in your protein.
  21. I'm not a dietician. I like oatmeal. I get the weight control instant (it has a bit more protein) and then add protein to it. Lately, I have been adding a packet of the WonderSlim dark chocolate pudding (because I have it) and some PB2. Also, you don't have to eat "breakfast food" for breakfast. Sometimes I just have leftovers.

What Gets You Going for Your Workout?

One thing that helped me is something my NUT pointed out. It is that exercise/being active is needed to be healthy. For me, my obesity lead me to be practically immobile and housebound. Now, I exercise because I can and I enjoy it. It isn't a chore but something that makes me feel good. I think the key is to 1) find something you enjoy and 2) making it as easy as possible to do.

    Getting started/keeping motivated

Pre-op, I was very immobile to the point that even getting in and out of a pool was difficult. I got an exercise peddler and started pedaling it with my hands while I watched tv. I counted time and worked up to at least an hour a day. Once I was cleared, post-op, most of my exercise has been on the pool. My sister gave me a Misfit shine and I wear it all the time. I like it because it ties in with My FintnessPal and it is great for swimming.

    I'm stuck and frustrated

Stalls occur for anyone who is losing a significant amount of weight. They do not occur because of the kind of surgery you have. They are a natural part of the weight loss surgery process. I apologize for providing information that you are uninterested in. Feel free to ignore it if you wish. I was just trying to help.

    New clothes and spicy food

I am not working and have a lot of dresses so I have been wearing a lot of my old clothes. I have bought one or two skirts and some tips to wear in public here and there. I swim a lot so I do make sure I have bathing suits that fit. I buy 2-piece tankini a where I can buy different sizes for the tops and bottoms. I am bottom heavy and my top is shrinking faster than my bottoms. Be careful about buying clothes ahead of time because you may actually skip sizes as you go down. By the way, I have no problems with spicy food.
