Humiliated for last time
Inner Surfer Girl replied to sarah92200's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The few times a child has said that to me I have smiled and said "Yes, I am!" When they have asked why I just tell them I ate too much candy. At that age, they are just trying to figure out the world. Its the grown folks with no manors or tact who I grieve for. Why would want anyone else lioks like would be their business is beyond me. -
Being alone post-op
Inner Surfer Girl replied to 3in1wOL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said to make sure to have someone drive me home (nodriving for 10 days,) If your sisters are so worried maybe they could take turns coming to you! -
I have one and my surgeon said he would fix it, too. I think of it as sort of like the timing belt on my car. While he is under the hood he might as well fix what he sees!

when do you start getting rid of clothes?

The jockey siye should have a size chart. I lile jockey because they ate comfy and seem to keep their elastic longer. -
One of the reasons I am the size I am today (atill pre-op) is that I grew up in a large family. If you didn't ear your food and fast, someone would finish it for you! Lol. My dad used to go to work on Sundays so he could drink his Pepsi in peace. He used to hide them around the house, too. When I started dieting (way too young), Tab was only for those of us on a "diet", that disn't work either, Its sad that in a country (US) with such abundance we are hardwired for dealing with scarcity of food.

How do you know if your liver is shrinking?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to chrissy72w's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fortunately, my surgeon doesn't expect/require weight lioss for the two week pre-op diet. He said he would rather us not be malnoirised, but... He is very strict about very low carbs. So, he jas is do the protein shakes and a very narrow list of foods to supplement (vinegarette dressings, green leafy vegetables, and protein, protein, protein. He even said bacon is ok! -

Anybody in college or going to college?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bribrijoi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am not in college, but I worked in higher ed for years. Don't be afraid to make friends with the food services folks. Some schools or vendors have a dietitian/nutritionist on staff. If you need help making choices, have special requests, or need info I would be very surprised if they wouldn't be happy to help. Best of luck with school! -

You can call Syntrax and order 15 samples for about $16. If you search these boards for Syntrax samples you should find the link. -
What words, phrases, cliches have you heard that resonated with your weight loss journey? "Words are units of energy" is something I heard once. I started using that phrase when I have struggled with journalling. The more I write about and talk about my feelings and what is going on with me, the more energy is expended. "Tears weigh more than fat." I heard this on a weight loss reality show recently. Being able to feel my feelings and shed some tears is also critical for me. Anyone else have something that works for them?

My weight has increased 20 pounds from my stable point over the past few months....
Inner Surfer Girl replied to throwaway557's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been reading through your threads and it is making me very sad. I am pre-op and have only recently come to the decision to have the surgery. I am doing a lot of research because I know that surgery is not a "magic bullet". I am not where you are in your journey but I have worked with college students in helping them succeed in school. How are you doing in school? My guess from your posts is that you are having struggles in most areas of your life. May I offer some unsolicited advice and give you a bit of homework? First, be completely honest with yourself, your surgeon and your therapist. Write out why you had the surgery in the first place and what you hoped the surgery would help you accomplish. What do you want your life to be like? Print out your threads on this discussion board and share them with your surgeon and therapist. Go through these posts and write down everwhere you said you CANT do something. Change each of these statements to a positive statement. Make a list of the advice that others have shared wirh you. (It probably matches your surgeons instructions in the first place -- pull out your surgery manual if you received one and reread it). Once you have done this you probably have a very clear list of things to do every day. -- get back to basics. Pull out your calendar and make a schedule include your classes, study time, activities, sleep, etc. Fill in the activities you need to get back on track -- be detailed. Schedule time to drink Protein shakes, take Vitamins, drink Water, exercise, etc. Get your nutritionist to help you with this. I think if you try these suggestions, you may not feel so overwhelmed. You have already had the surgery. With the help of professionals and support from resources like this board, you can succeed. But, you have to do the work one day at a time. Keep your chin up! -

Diet Coke Addiction
Inner Surfer Girl replied to ChristenOnAmission's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am pre-op and was really worried that I couldn't give up diet pop. I have successfully weened myself off by switching to tea. Now I am obsessed with tea and have quite a variety. I have a 2 liter pitcher that I keep in the refrigerator wirh fresh brewed ice tea. Fortunately, I have never been a sweet tea drinker (even though I'm southern to the bone). I drink a variety of green, black and oolong teas. I sometimes add in herbal infusions. (ex 4 bags green tea, 1 bag mint to make 2 quarts). Tea has a range of caffeine content from high to decaf so I can adjust depending on my needs. It is also making it easier for me to go decaf. -
Books for the mental health part of this journey

I am currently reading Eat it Up (it was used by my therapist in Atlanta). Geneen Roth has several great books. OA literature and AA Big Book are also helpful. -
