The nutritionist versus my own choices...?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Wayne Hunt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have a therapist? It sounds to me from your post that this isn't a battle between you and your NUT but may be more about your relationship with food (just a thought ). -
Low Self-Esteem Issues
Inner Surfer Girl replied to SwimSlim92's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
OK, I certainly understand feeling this way, but I've got to question that you can't find ANYTHING positive about yourself inside and out. You are: alive, you are actively seeking to change your life, you participate on this forum so are helpful to others. I have never met you and I came up with three things. I challenge you to come up with three things yourself and write them down. I also challenge you to ask other people in your life for three positive things about you and write them down (whether you agree with them or not). I bet it won't take long to start seeing some patterns. Best of luck. -
Obesity Week Update
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Very we'll said. I know that most of us want to know the bottom line -- what's in it for us and how it impacts us; but, have little patience for the method and reasoning behind the conclusions. I find long, in-depth articles and stories invaluable for educating myself on issues and usually find that short articles and sound bytes leave me with many more questions than answers. Unfortunately, most of us today have very little time and patience for this kind of reporting and the news outlets know it. -
Is it just me or does the rash of raves about Genepro Protein on this board lately sound very scripted? If you are shilling for the company you need to be open and above board. I have never tried the product and based on the red flags that go up when I read these "reviews" I won't be trying it. Does anyone else have a problem with this kind of covert marketing?

Citerra Financing- whoa!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to shizwiz's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
That sounds so much better! I hate to see people taken advantage of by predatory lenders. -
Celiac disease and sleeve surgery
Inner Surfer Girl replied to JennsinCA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a really interesting article in the recent New Yorker magazine about gluten-free food. I don't have celiacs but my sister does so I am interested. One thing it pointed out (that you probably already know) is that a lot of the gluten-free replacements are very processed and high in carbs. The lesson for me is that for all foods is that even if it seems "healthy" you have to read labels. -
Citerra Financing- whoa!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to shizwiz's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
You could figure out what the payment on that loan would be and put that amount in savings every month for surgery. I bet you could save enough over a shorter amount of time and still get your surgery in a reasonable amount of time. -
High BMI sleevers weight loss amounts.
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Dmclaren83's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have a super-high BMI and am waiting on a surgery date. I know that I am in it for the long haul and have no idea what to expect time-wise. I plan to set smaller goals mostly around regaining mobility and my life. -

I don't know about you but my surgeon has different numbers for admin stuff and surgical/medical issues. -
Help me! Can't stop eating!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to JillC878's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Write/journal, pray, take a walk, make a phone call, take a shower/bath, go to the bathroom, do something with your hands (crochet, knit, needlepoint), clean the bathroom, take a nap, pay bills, run an errand, clean out a drawer, ... -

Do you have a YMCA or other pool nearby? Getting in the water and moving may help with your arthritis. -

Those sound like great questions for your surgeon and NUT. -
Lost Without a plan
Inner Surfer Girl replied to asmallersara's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What did you surgeon/NUT give you? They should have provided you a post-op food plan. -

just WRONG
Inner Surfer Girl replied to BigGirlPanties's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aquafina is tap water that has been filtered. McDonald's would list "spring" water on the menu board for the drive thru and give me Aquafina --- whatever happened to truth in advertising? It would definitely tick me off. -
It does sound like they see you as the "boss" (which you are in a way). It goes with the territory. Keep things cordial on your end. You really can't force the relationships to be more like friends if it's not there. Consider looking for friends outside your immediate work group (or away from work altogether). Best of luck.

Suggestions please!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to iamblessed1225's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
To answer your question about making broccoli you can steam it, roast it, saute it, stir fry it, put it in soup, purée it...just about anything. If you like cheese try one of the frozen broccoli with cheese sauce steamers. I happen to love broccoli! -
just WRONG
Inner Surfer Girl replied to BigGirlPanties's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If there are three of you why not bring your own Water and Snacks and share? If you buy in bulk you can save quite a bit. When I worked on campus I made friends with the vending machine guy. They sometimes have control of what goes in the machine (sometimes they don't). -
Suggestions please!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to iamblessed1225's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You could try other cruciferous vegetables like: cauliflower, cabbage, cress, bok choy, and/or Brussels sprouts. -
Summer Rain, thanks for the update. It's so great that you are able to volunteer and make a difference to others. It's been my experience in the past that just one small change can be just the push to get all the dominos moving in the right direction (after spending so much time feeling stuck when I was actually doing was getting all the dominos lined up in the right place. That is what this weight loss journey has felt like for me.

Lovely!

Many people have 60 - 80grams as a goal but it depends on where you start. Mine is 100 grams. Good luck.

My understanding is that you need the same amount that your NUT recommends. What was your target up to now?

To prep for my surgery I bought a used bariatric recliner so I can sleep after surgery. It is a manual recliner (non-motorized) and I cannot work the lever to raise my legs from the sitting position (my arm doesn't reach far enough down to get enough leverage). I ordered a lever handle extender but it doesn't solve the problem. Has anyone else run into this problem and found a way to adapt the lever or engineered a workaround? Any ideas?
