    age appropriate?

I am a Francophile, so at age 50 I am looking forward to building a Parissiene Chic wardrobe. If that is for you there are lots of books available. (Focus on high quality, classic basics.) if that interests you google Paris Street Chic for some ideas. I just gave my nieces the book Lessons from Madame Chic which has some ideas.

Starving on Liquid Diet - Any suggestions?

Are you drinking all 6 shakes? In addition, try lots of Water, hot or iced decaf (I am assuming no caffeine?) tea and or herbal infusions, and crystal light. Staying hydrated can help some with the hunger. Best of luck!

    What causes stalls?

Also, my understanding (from years of dieting) is that stalls/plateaus are when my body is rearranging everything to accommodate the fat loss-- moving fat around so that is more easily accessible, etc.
  6. I used to be completely against this surgery. Now, I am pre-op and eagerly awaiting a surgery date for a sleeve. Doing the research has helped me understand better what I am getting myself into but even better, it has given me back hope that I can have my life back!

    I haven't done anything right

I agree wit Kindle, many of the top bariatric surgery programs have their surgery manuals online. Try searching bariatric center of excellence surgery manual. Read a manual (or more than one). Read the posts on this site. Take notes. Look for support (OA, support groups through hospitals, therapists, nutritionists, etc.) Do you have access to a YMCA or gym? Use it. My surgeon's biggest rules/priorities: Water (at least 64 oz). Protein (my goal is 100 grams, it depends on your starting weight) Exercise (work up to at least an hour a day) -- start with walking frequently Follow the post-op phases carefully, they are designed to help you heal (ie, texture of food). Vitamins/supplements (see surgery manuals or your primary care doctor). I am still pre-op and still learning. I wish you all the best.

Favorite gift you got and gave

Our Christmas isn't over so I may need to revise this. My mom gave each of us siblings a 4-in-1 panini press (can be used as a grill, griddle, etc). Since I don't have a stove/oven in my apartment it's going to get lots of use. I gave all my nieces a Madame Chic book and each of my nephews a hiking guide for their state.

    Hand Pedaling for Sedentary Folks

I bought an inexpensive pedaler from Amazon several months ago. Since my legs are large I am currently only able to pedal with my hands. I have been using it regularly and have worked up to using it for at least 60 minutes every day. It has a feature where you can track minutes, etc. so I can easily keep up with my time. I can use it for shorter intervals while I watch tv. For anyone who is housebound this winter because of the weather or due to mobility issues, you might want to consider using one to get in some movement. I am definitely feeling the benefits of getting in some exercise and have even found it fun.

    Sleep apnea and snoring

Is your sleep apnea untreated? You mention that you currently snore. Your surgeon may not be willing to do the surgery if it's untreated. Have you had a sleep study?

    Discouraged Already

I am pre-op but have been reading these boards daily for months. I don't remember reading about anyone losing more than a pound a day right out of surgery. What I do remember reading are posts like yours. And the advice that resonates with me is: Stay Off the scale. You have lost weight. You have had major surgery. You are healing. You aren't yet able to get in all your Water and Protein. Focus on healing and water and protein! I hope I am in your shoes soon and can remember my own advice. I look forward to following you in your journey.

    Kids are so honest

Remember, all adults are bigger than kids and seeing someone obese is unusual to most kids until they have more experience. They are just curious. When I have encountered this question "why is that lady so big?" I smile, look directly at the child and tell them I ate too much candy. It puts it in a context that they can understand. It's the adults who should know better who I ignore.
