Looking for shakes
Inner Surfer Girl replied to sweetgagrl00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GNC lean 25 has an orange and a mixed berry that I like. Syntrax Nectar has lots of fruit flavors (you can go to their website and request a sample pack for about $15). -
Hiking for a search
Inner Surfer Girl replied to kimpossible67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hiking is on my wish list (and taking a walk in the snow, on the beach, and anywhere that I can't walk now). I recently read Bill Bryson's book A Walk in the Woods about hiking the Appalachian trail. I then gave all my nephews hiking guides for their states for Christmas. I look forward to being able to join them on hikes in the future. As a former Michigander I don't miss the extreme cold. Bundle up and stay warm! Still praying for your search... -
Your Favorite things- fitness/ exercise related
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Luvin_Life125's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I am currently reading the 2014 Best American Sports Writing anthology and there is an article about sports bras that made me think of this site. I'm looking forward to fitting in my first real sports bra in years. They have certainly changed a lot since they were invented! -
A Fresh Start for the New Year
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I agree. Instead of New Years resolutions I have been focusing on specific daily goals to prep for surgery (ie, weaning off caffeine and increasing water, increasing activity to at least 60 minutes a day, eating more slowly with smaller bites and chewing more, etc). -
Your Favorite things- fitness/ exercise related

I am still pre-op and not very mobile so I have been using this Exercise Peddler http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Medical-Exercise-Electronic-RTL10273/dp/B002VWJYSE when I watch TV. I peddle with my hands and do at least 60 minutes a day. It's actually kind of fun. -
Holy love of measurements!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just ordered s long tape measure from Amazon. The last time I was measured it was by someone who was doing some sewing for me. I found a tape measure that I should be able to use myself. -
Any photos of "plated" food portions?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to GoGirl2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There is a long thread with lots of pictures. I think it's called What I ate for Lunch or something similar. Try searching "lunch". -
I have to jump in here. Seeing a psychologist, psychiatrist, counselor or other mental health professional doesn't mean you are crazy. A recommendation doesn't mean someone thinks you are crazy. It just means that there are trained professionals who can help you navigate many of the issues you have brought up. We all can benefit from outside help at one time or another.

Ah! Penny! Why?!?!?(My 600 lb life)
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Kramer17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Watching My 600 Pound Life was a big step for me in accepting that I really was at the end of my rope and that there is hope to get my life back. I too wish the show went into more depth about the psychological aspects but have found it very educational as to the challenges and process. I am glad they have shown a variety of experiences -- both good and bad. I hate The Biggest Loser (the idea of turning someone's health and well being into a competition is so contrary to a sane approach to health that it should be illegal IMHO). My 600 Pound Life, though difficult to watch, seems more "real". -
Some advice please!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to iamblessed1225's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't think you can predict where you will lose fat based on exercise. You can tone muscles. Have you tried an exercise (crunches, sit-ups)? Swimming, water aerobics, and belly dancing are all great for strengthening your core. -
Does the hotel have a spa? An indoor pool? I don't know her family dynamic over the holidays but as an introvert, I can see the attraction of checking into a hotel.

Still praying for you and the search party.

I want to give up
Inner Surfer Girl replied to katmaar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you live on campus? Have a meal plan? Many colleges have a nutritionist on staff for their meal service and/or health center. You might want to find out if there is someone like that on campus and make an appointment. Take the written info from your NUT/surgeon and see if they have any ideas or suggestions. They also may be able to make accommodations (blending food, stocking healthy options). It never hurts to ask. -
Getting rid of addictions
Inner Surfer Girl replied to saj54539@yahoo.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon won't operate on anyone who is still smoking. Have you talked to a therapist or counselor? If you truly want to quit you might want to explore a 12-step program. -
I am a classic movie fan. You could work your way through the AFI 100 Best Movies list. http://www.afi.com/100years/movies10.aspx

NIH Recommends DS, but wanted VSG, help!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Smye's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
My understanding is that for many patients the sleeve worked so well that the second stage was not needed. That is why the sleeve is becoming more popular. It's worth talking with your surgeon about. -
Peanut Butter
Inner Surfer Girl replied to esskay77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PB2 is powdered peanuts -- nothing added. -

Alcohol as a social activity / Cash pay patients
Inner Surfer Girl replied to joshwah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have no idea how to answer either question. I am pre-op, not much of a drinker to begin with, and am cash pay (but have been approved through my states vocational rehab so they are paying for the surgery). As to the alcohol, there are many discussions and opinions on this board so I recommend reading the previous discussions. (My opinion, drinking isn't worth the risk for me --- especially early after surgery). Welcome to the forum and best of luck with your surgery. -
professional 52yo worried about perception of other members of upper management?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to scared52yoguy!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can't help what other people think. Many people in "professional" settings think all the things you have listed about anyone who is overweight. Be proud of what you accomplish and let them drive themselves crazy trying to figure it out. -
