LOOKING FOR INFO ON BARIATRIC SURGERY!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to lessismore52's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Welcome to BariatricPal. I finally got my sleeve on Monday and came home last night. It was a long road getting here and learning as much as I could really helped me to be at peace about my decision and to calibrate my expectations. As everyone has suggested, read as much as you can, ask lots of questions, and do what is asked of you by your bariatric team. When I went for my surgery I committed to myself just to suck it up and do whatever I was told. Best of luck. -
Sending prayers all around.

I really need your help guys. Please!

What @@Miss Mac said. I would also recommend you make and keep a follow-up appointment with your surgeon, NUT, PCP, etc, and attend a support group meeting. I bet you aren't the only one struggling. -

Bring on the massage and the mani/pedi. A facial would be nice, too! -

Did your Dr. prescribe Prilosec or something similar. It might be stomach acid. -

Dr. Weiss. He seems to be excellent. I hope he is getting a good night's sleep tonight. -
Something tells me I will be needing this soon.

Loss of husband's support? :(
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Joz31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am not married, but if I had to guess, he may be experiencing some fear and anxiety as the date gets closer. Best of luck with your surgery. You do deserve to be healthy. -
Walking and moving is supposed to help with the gas as well as your circulation.

Counting Protein, Carbs?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to ChampionLoser's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My protein goal is 100 grams of protein (due to my starting BMI). My surgeon is adamant that getting enough protein is critical for healing and weight loss. -

I am still pre-op (my surgery is tomorrow), but I have heard that walking will help disperse the gas that is causing your shoulder pain. I have also heard of folks using a heating pad to help alleviate the pain. Hope you are feeling better soon. -
Please explain protein for weight loss to me

I'd love the link to the nutrition class. -
I am bottom heavy, too. My mom is bottom heavy with short legs and long torso. She has always blamed it on our German ancestors. When I have lost weight before I tended to lose from the top down. Swimming has always been one of my favorite exercises and it seems to help with my bottom half.

I understand! Mine is this coming Monday morning but it has taken me so long to get to this point that I am mostly just ready to get it over with. Best of luck with your surgery.

Not Counting Protein?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to I'mALoserBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon emphasized in my last post-op appointment that getting enough protein is absolutely critical/non-negotiable. He said if anyone was not absolutely committed to getting enough protein then they should not have the surgery. -

Completely devastated and disappointed

Are you getting in your protein and water? How much of each? -
I truly believe that in large part one of the reasons I built such a wall of fat around me was to insulate myself from unwelcome attention. One benefit to being fat for me is that it had helped me to finely tune my BS meter. I am hopeful that with my surgery and resulting weight loss I will keep both my BS meter and my compassion. Also, that with my age and life experience I have gained some skills in relationship-building and maintenance that will help me navigate my new life. In some respects it is a voyage into the unknown. I'd like to approach it less in fear and more as a grand adventure.

Ibuprofen for Headaches/Migraines and menstrual cramps
Inner Surfer Girl replied to KamiDP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
In this week's pre-surgical appointment my surgeon spent about 20 minutes talking about how one of the biggest causes of leaks/post-surgical complications is other doctors who don't have a clue about treating WLS patients. -
My surgeon said no NSAIDs. And absolutely no NSAIDs or steroids up to six weeks after surgery.
