I can't drink any protein! Help

I just got some of this today and it was awesome! First Protein I've enjoyed and kept down in 2.5 weeks. They also have a line of protein soups that I'm going to get too.. I've been living on the ProtDiet chicken and Tomato Basil soups during the liquid phases.

    Hello! New to the site

Welcome to BariatricPal and congratulations on your success so far. I was sleeved April 20 and couldn't imagine going through the process without the support and what I have learned on this site.

    Vacationing after surgery.

One thing I would suggest based on some things my surgeon told us is to take some detailed instructions, contact info for your surgeon and share them with someone in your travel party. Just in case you wind up with complications or need to go to the ER. For example, don't let another Dr. give you NSAIDs or Steroids.

My NUTs instructions say to hold off on steak and pork chops until about 3 months post-op.

    Weightloss Update

Please tell me I didn't do this for 1-2 lbs a week ...If your Dr. predicted 3-5 lbs. a week then that is probably accurate. He knows your variables such as starting weight, height, etc. But, that would be an average over a long period of time not a weekly guarantee. Our bodies are complex systems so we don't lose weight on a strict timetable. You may lose a lot one week, and very little the next. You may not lose anything one week, but lose inches. In the long term you will see progress. My strategy is to: stay off the scale and only weigh at my Doctors appointments, get all my Protein and Water in every day, and exercise when I am able (with a goal of at least 60 minutes a day). I can only control the inputs. What the scale says is none of my business for now. My measures of success will be the things I will be able to do as my physical limitations disappear. I wish you all the best on your journey.

can i be eating too few calories?

What is your protein goal? Mine is 100 G protein and 64 oz. water. Fortunately, I was able to meet my protein goal every day since the second day home from the hospital. It's not easy, but I treat it like my job. Most people say do the best you can early out. Barring any major problems, I would recommend making a concerted effort to get it all in. You will feel better, heal better, and optimize your weight loss (according to my surgeon).

Adding calories, gaining weight 3 months out?

I would be curious to know if she is getting all her protein and water.

I can't drink any protein! Help

I was given packets of ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate (15 G protein) in the hospital and to bring home. They were a big help the first few days. I put them over a little bit of crushed ice and ate them like slushies.

    Fashion help?

You definitely have to post pictures! There was a trend years ago of determining your "season" based on skin tone, coloring, etc. I don't know if it's still a thing, but figuring out my season helped me determine what colors look best on me. Edited to add: http://www.colormebeautiful.com/seasons/

    clear liquids and full liquids

Pre-op, I only had to do clear liquids the day before surgery. The rest of my pre-op diet was high protein, low carb. Frankly, for me, my clear liquid stage and my full liquid stage have gone by really quickly. Soups, and cottage cheese, and V8 saved me because I don't like sweet drinks and shakes all the time.

    clear liquids and full liquids

According to my surgeon's program, clear liquids are those you can see through (with the exception of a Protein shake and some protein Soup he allowed). Full liquids include liquids that are opaque (like smoothies without chunks, v8, milk), cream Soups, yogurt, and even cottage cheese. My program guide includes specifics and examples. Has your NUT or program provided you with a guide?

    Pureed Food

I moved from full liquid to soft foods this week. The first thing I got was pintos and cheese from Taco Bell. Yesterday I had some soft cooked green beans and a mashed up new potato. I just had a scrambled egg. I don't know what your puree requirements are but these might fit. I am still eating a lot of yogurt, cottage cheese, soups, and protein drinks and shakes that are from my clear and full liquid stages.

    Insurance denied me :/

I am so sorry to hear this. After being around these boards for a long time I would suggest that you appeal. You should be able to get your PCP or surgeon to help with the process. Don't give up.

    Fashion help?

Since they are both neutral and both striped I would stick with a solid. You could do almost any color. You could wear other neutrals (white, brown, or navy) for either. What is your coloring? What color are your eyes? What is your favorite color?

    Any swimmers out there?

I was sleeved April 20 and this is the big milestone I am looking forward to. My surgeon said my incisions need to be completely healed, no scabs or holes.

    Reversal

I apologize if I missed something above, but I just wanted to warn you if you suspect a gluten sensitivity, Celiacs or something similar, removing gluten from your diet before your Dr. runs tests will interfere with the testing results. It is my understanding that this is a big mistake people make before diagnosis.

My surgeon didn't use a drain. So, I can't answer that question. As far as hair loss, I too have very thick hair so probably wouldn't miss much if I did lose a lot. I think that you will inevitably lose some hair due to the trauma of surgery and anesthesia. The only thing I would recommend (based on my research) is to make sure you get enough Protein post surgery. It's important not only for your hair and nails but for your overall recovery and weight loss. Best of luck with your surgery. Edited: due to stupid autocorrect.

    Ready, Get Set, Go!

Great list. I gave my mom my cell so I wouldn't be tempted to use it while loopy. I also gave her a list of folks who wanted to know how I was doing so she could text them (from my phone), when I came out of surgery. I only used: Chapstick, heating pad, biotene, clean pair of underwear, and pillow for ride home. I wasn't in hospital long enough to need entertainment. The best thing I had with me in the hospital was my mom for support. My dad and sister (who lived close enough) came by right before surgery and stayed until I was in recovery. My mom stayed the whole time and my sister came back the first evening and we had a nice long visit. Oh, and my former cleaning ladies gave my place a surprise cleaning while I was in the hospital!

Is my life ruined for ever due to my weight loss surgery?

Have you noticed if temperature matters? My NUT mentioned that very cold things may make it more painful/can cause cramping. I find I prefer room temperature and warm (soups) beverages and foods.

working out and not losing weight

From everything I have learned from my surgeon and throughout this process, I would almost guarantee this is the answer to your issue. My surgeon said the number one determinant of success is getting enough protein.

    The lady at the pool

I am that woman. When I moved here I visited our local wellness center for a water aerobics class and had to have help getting out of the pool. They have stairs, but for some strange reason the rail doesn't go all the way to the top on one side. The top two steps are when you get the full force of gravity and I certainly need handrails to pull myself out of the pool.
