    Gut Flora

I heard a good talk on NPR this weekend that argued that commercial probiotics weren't very effective of at all. I'll see if I can find a link to the show.

    Gut Flora

They don't remove anything. But, I believe the pre-op and post-op diets can alter/influence it.

    Exercise Addiction

I met someone similar in one of the support group meetings I attended. He works a couple of jobs and was talking about not going to bed but staying up trying to get more steps in for his activity tracker. He was complaining about falling asleep behind the wheel -- he doesn't sleep much either. I couldn't stress enough how dangerous that is. Enough sleep is vital. I made a point of waiting a very long time after he left to get on the road.

    Stay overnight or don't stay.

I think it is going to depend on how you feel. My surgery was outpatient but that included a night in the hospital.

    Exercise Addiction

    Yeah!
  6. If and when they offer you beverages on the flight, plain water and tomato juice are both good options. Take some crystal light to go packets of you want to flavor your water.

    Question from a Non-cook

I wouldn't worry too much about him wasting away. He can always have more (volume) than you and can have extra carbs/sugars (if you can stand having them in the house).

    So excited.

    Congratulations!

Did Your Worst Nightmare Come True?

I swim and have done so at my highest weight. I really don't care what other people think about the way I look in a bathing suit. I am there for my benefit, not theirs.

    Protein

How many grams of protein did your NUT or surgeon recommend? The amount shouldn't change at 5 weeks, it should just be easier to reach that goal? My surgeon's goal for me is 100 grams. His guidelines are 80 grams for women who start with a BMI under 40 (maybe 50, I don't remember), and 100 grams for everyone else.

    Stalled, Then loosing, Then Gaining?

Do you have a smart phone? If so, I highly recommend you download a food tracker like MyFitnessPal and track every bite. Aim for at least 80 grams of Protein. (My target is 100 grams so it does vary.) @@KristenLe is absolutely right. You will need to supplement your protein until you are able to get enough in with regular food.

    Professional Wardrobe

Thanks everyone. So, I did terrible but got some great feedback and have lots of homework/action items, and a plan of action going forward. I scheduled a second mock interview to follow up. Now I have lots to do to prepare for a second mock interview, and a reason to put together a second interview outfit so I will have more to choose from when and if I am ever called in for a second real interview. By the way, I have found the whole process incredibly helpful. Prepping for mock interviews is making me get on the stick and plan ahead. Hopefully when I get asked in for some real interviews I will be super prepared.

Because you are losing Water weight (not fat).

I am heading in to a mock interview. Wish me luck!

I agree. You MAY not be eating enough.

    Clothes Shopping Chaos!

Yes! I am returning to the workforce so trying to buy some professional clothes. I am still (mostly) in women's sizes so the choices are more limited, but at least I am able to buy things in stores. It is like a huge scavenger hunt!

    WLS Failure?

One month post-op is not an indication of failure. We are still healing from major surgery at one month, and also experiencing our first stall (so the net loss may not show on the scale). There are so many variables: ease of recovery, complications, ability to get in enough Protein and fluids, capacity to understand and follow directions, starting weight, existing health conditions, etc. Why are you focusing on "failures"? Just curious.

    Lexington, KY sleeve buddy

Hi Jessica, I am in Danville and was sleeved by Dr. Weiss at Georgetown April 20, 2015. I would be glad to chat. Also, Bluegrass Bariatrics just sent out a date and time for the support groups at Baptist for the rest of the year in case you are interested.

    Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  21. Interesting point. Also maybe due to evolution the metabolism slows down since it would require us to use less energy resulting in us having to hunt and gather less calories to survive? Also, sadly, very obese people may not live as long due to an earlier death from a comorbidity of obesity. Honestly I always just thought that obese people are so much less likely to make it to old age. Sent from my Nexus 6P using the BariatricPal App I think that is what most people say but it isn't 100% true.

6 weeks post op and scale has stopped!

Is this a duplicate thread? Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  23. Welcome! I think you are the first person I have heard from who had their sleeve in the Czeck Republic. I am not familiar with what your post-op program so can only share what works for me. First, please know that stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all experience stalls. Just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight you will experience periodic stalls. Please read this for more information about stalls: Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall. This is what works for me: Follow my post-op program. Track my food (I use MyFitnessPal). Drink at least 64 oz of Fluid. Consume at least 100 grams of Protein a day. (Were you given a protein target?) Avoid starches, added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods. Practice mindful eating: eat slowly, take small bites, and chew thoroughly. Take my Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise. In addition, I recommend you use every resource available to you: Do you have: a NUT? A therapist? You may also want to see if you can find a support groping. One you may want to explore is Overeaters Anonymous. You can find meeting lists, podcasts, and other resources online at OA.org. BariatricPal is also a great source of support. Keep us posted on how you are dpi get.

HELP PLEASE! 15 y/o post op!

By the way, can I just say how much I admire your courage for taking such a big step at your age. You are going to have such an awesome life!

6 weeks post op and scale has stopped!

You mention calories but not Protein. Rather than minimizing calories, it is more important to maximize your protein. What is your protein target? How are you doing at reaching your protein target and getting at least 64 oz of Fluid? Protein and fluids are critical for healing and weight loss. That said, none of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience periodic stalls. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight, you will experience stalls. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
