    Nutritional facts

What does your NUT say? I count Protein (my goal is 100 g/day), and minimize carbs/sugar (focus on whole/natural carbs with no starchy carbs -- bread, rice, pasta).

Why aren't you supposed to start protein until next week? I started protein in the hospital the day after surgery and my surgeon was adamant that we get in enough protein as soon as possible. I was able to reach my protein goal of 100 grams a day since day 2. Protein is critical for healing and weight loss. Even if you are on Clear liquids you should be getting your protein.

    Weight Loss Stall

You say you are focusing on calories but barely mention your protein. Are you reaching your protein and water goals every day? If you don't get in enough protein you won't lose as much as you could. Maybe that is what your surgeon is noticing.

VSG With Simultaneous Hiatal Hernia Repair

I had hiatal hernia repair and as everyone mentioned it is very common. My surgeon also said if he saw anything else that needed fixing when he went in he would fix that, too. Sort of like getting your timing belt changed when you get your engine worked on: the biggest costs are just opening the hood and going into the engine!

    The Waiting Game - RANT!

Can't you start your pre-surgery diet before approval in anticipation of an earlier surgery date. I would talk to your surgeon and see if that is doable. That way once the contract goes into effect you will be ready for surgery.

    Can't Eat

The week I was allowed fish I had grilled salmon at a family cookout, baked tilapia from a local restaurant, and tuna from a pouch. Fish is one of my go-to foods now.

    Here we are.... now what?!

@@Kindle, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember not seeing your comments on the boards for a while and wondering if you were ok. Of course, I was too consumed with my own surgery to check. I agree with the idea of grief counseling. I attended a grief counseling group at my church when I lost a family member and it was very helpful. Without food as a crutch, any strong emotion can seem magnified and unmanageable. There is help available. Sending his and prayers.
  9. If it were me, I would schedule the surgery after your final.
  10. I had a great surgery and uneventful recovery (no real pain to speak of). What I did notice though was that I was in a brain fog for at least a week or two after surgery. I would be more concerned about that than the physical issues barring any complications.
  11. Our bodies are complex systems, not simple machines. The numbers on a scale are just one measure of the mass of our body at one point in time. It doesn't solely measure fat, Fluid, bone, waste, tissue, skin, or muscle. It measures a combination of those things at one particular time. In the short term, we do have stalls. In the long term, if we do what we are supposed to do we will lose weight (until our bodies decide otherwise). Some important elements you leave out of your argument are scale (forgive the pun): time, whether it's a macro or micro view, etc. As my surgeon pointed out: our bodies don't speak the same language we speak. If you are worried about stalls and they matter to you, then one solution is to weigh less frequently.

    Frustrated!

Are you able to get in all your protein and water?

    Date

I was sleeved April 20 and the worst part of my sleeve experience was the uncertainty before surgery. The surgery and recovery have been uneventful by comparison.

I doubt drinking too fast would cause a leak. Not drinking enough can cause dehydration, though.

I am so sorry you are experiencing this. Have you talked to your surgeon? Are you getting in your fluids and protein? Are you still on pain meds? If you haven't called your surgeon I would do so.
  16. This is not a competition nor is it something you can manipulate or outsmart. Our bodies are complex systems, not simple machines. None of us lose weight at a constant rate. Most of us will see fluctuations. My understanding is that the basics are the same you day one, day 30, and day 3000 (with some adjustments based on consultation with your NUT, PCPS, etc.). Get in all your fluids, daily. Reach your Protein goals, daily. Reach your exercise goals. Exercise/move daily (this needs to be based on your goals/capacity).

    Hard time losing weight pre-op

I hear you. My metabolism was so messed up before surgery that losing weight was nearly impossible. Fortunately, I wasn't required to lose weight before surgery but I definitely didn't want to gain. Pre-op I weaned myself off of caffeine and PPP, increased my Water intake, reduced carbs, practiced focusing on Protein, and started sampling Protein shakes. Even if you are going out to eat with family you can work on choosing higher protein, lower carb options and loading up on non-starchy vegetables. In my experience (I was sleeved April 20), pre- and post-op conditions are so different you can't really compare them. Pre-op you are trying to fill up a large stomach that is begging to be filled while minimizing calories. Post-op you are trying to maximize nutrition in a stomach that is tiny. Willpower is useless in both cases.
  18. Congratulations! Have a great time.

Share your rants about the fashion industry!

This is why I like the new trend in Tankinis where I can order different sizes for the top and bottom. One of my gripes with swimsuits is that they all have some sort of power netting or Iron tummy panel that make it impossible to pull them up over your legs and hips.

    Ketchup, Mustard, & Pickles

My surgeon doesn't mind some sugar, he is just very against high fructose corn syrup. If you must have ketchup, be sure and read the label. Manufacturers are starting to pay attention to consumer demand to not rely on high fructose corn syrup so you can find some alternatives.

  22. I was sleeved April 20 and still haven't tried chicken. I was allowed canned chicken the same week I was allowed tuna but it still seems like it would be too heavy.

    My new beginning

Welcome. This is a great resource.
  24. I like the ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil Soups. I pretty much lived on them during my liquid phases. I have some of the pudding but prefer the WonderSlim dark chocolate pudding. I've been making it with PB2.
