Weight loss can be mentally draining so I...
Inner Surfer Girl replied to AussieSam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Why not make an appointment with your NUT to go over your plan and talk about your goals. Maybe your NIT has some ideas for how to reach your goals in a healthy way. -
Normal intake of liquid stage?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to MarceMonster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You do not need to be limiting calories. You do need to be focusing on getting your Protein and fluids. Staying hydrated and getting in your protein will help you heal and lose weight. Stay off the scale! You are healing from major surgery and were pumped full of IV fluids. I only weigh when I go to the doctor. You will lose weight you just won't see it on the scale this soon after surgery. -

What are some signs of pneumonia?

Great. Better safe. Hope you are feeling better soon. -
The scale...
Inner Surfer Girl replied to nikkiperezcassar's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What would you do differently based on the number on the scale to keep you "on track"? Get in all your Protein and Water? Minimize carbs? Exercise? If you are doing what you are supposed to do then the daily number on the scale shouldn't influence what you do every day. You will see trends better if you weigh once a week or less often. Then, you can adjust your daily goals. -
What are some signs of pneumonia?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to mal0712's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't you have your surgeon's phone number? Definitely give them a call, or if your PCP is closer you could call them. -
Cottage cheese and ricotta bake are two options.

What are some signs of pneumonia?

Definitely call your surgeon. This doesn't sound like something you want diagnosed by strangers without medical degrees on the Internet. Pneumonia is a very real post-surgery risk. -
The Secret To Fast Weight Loss
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was sleeved April 20. It is very thick and I have waited way too long for a cut. Fortunately, it was long enough I could donate it if I was willing to go short so I took the plunge. To donate it it has to be at least 9" long. My hair is so thick that even with the anticipated post-surgery hair loss I should still have plenty left. -
Medication After Surgery
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Carole61's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will need to coordinate this between the Dr. who prescribes your meds and your surgeon. Let your surgeon know what you are taking and he can let you know what to take the day of surgery. I was able to take everything the morning of surgery at home and then they gave them to me while I was in the hospital. -
What's the main difference between the Sleeve and Bypass?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to courtcourt90's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just realized what I wrote. I WAS over 500 pounds. As of my one month post-op appointment, I blew past the 500 pound mark. I won't ever see that "5" on a scale again. Pretty awesome. -
What's the main difference between the Sleeve and Bypass?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to courtcourt90's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was over 500 lbs. and sleeved April 20. One thing I can tell you is that with the sleeve your digestive system remains intact. The stretchy part of the stomach is removed but the entrance to your stomach and the pyloric valve (that empties the stomach) work the same way they always have. I agree with the recommendation that you do a lot of reading (on these boards and elsewhere). Most people seem to think the procedure they chose is the best but deciding which one is best for you should include a good discussion with your surgeon. Best of luck. -
The body building sites are helpful but just be aware that many body builders are trying to gain weight so you need to watch the carbs in their solutions.

Are men and women equal....
Inner Surfer Girl replied to AussieSam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It seems that for many guys, they lose faster/have a higher metabolism. An old joke is that in order to lose weight most guys just need to swtich from regular beer to light beer. I know it's not true but sometimes it seems that way! -
For any new sleevers on here
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Jessica Radcliff's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon wouldn't have allowed it pre-op (my pre-op was Adkins phase one) but allowed bananas during my soft phase post-op. Check with your program. -
Another clear Protein that isn't "thick" like the shakes is ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate. It comes in fruit flavors. My program actually gave me packets of it in the hospital where I put the concentrate over a little crushed ice and ate it like a slushie. Now that I am further out I dilute it and drink it like a fruit drink. ProtiDiet also has a couple of Soups I lived on my first few weeks: tomato basil and creamy chicken. In addition, my NUT recommended organic Bone broth as it has more protein than regular stock. Keep trying different things. It does get better.

pureed foods?!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to fau2nvy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a puréed stage, just a soft food stage. I ate a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, refried beans, pudding. The second week of soft foods I could add soft fish so I had salmon, tilapia, and tuna. -
Take a peek at my menu...
Inner Surfer Girl replied to dhrguru's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Why aren't you sure how much protein is in the ham, turkey and cheese? If it's packaged food it should be on the package. If you buy it from the deli then you can weigh it and look up the protein content. If you don't have a good scale it would be a great investment. I would also recommend using something like MyFitnessPal to keep track of your daily protein count and look up protein content for different foods. -

Or better yet, find someone who can sew for you. -
@@NikkiDoc, the reason we have to have protein daily is that our body doesn't store it. It's use it or lose it. We do store carbs and fat (hence our reason for being here).

Frustrated, confused and scared
Inner Surfer Girl replied to nervous nana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This just shows how ill-informed people in the medical community are about obesity, if anyone should have a clue you would think it should be physicians. -

How about some NSVs!?!?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I comfortably used a regular seatbelt (no extender) for the first time in years! -
I love this idea. Unfortunately for me it's not my mind that is keeping me from living life fully but my physical limitations. As I gain more mobility and the physical barriers decrease I fully intend to live life to the fullest. Each day I see improvements.

What's "worth it"?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to theother_onefoot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what you posted Doctor A provides pre-op care/support and Doctor B doesn't. Am I correct? Are either or both Centers of Excellence? What kind of education do they provide? What kind of nutrition education and support do they provide both pre- and post-op? How many surgeries total have they performed? On an annual basis?
