This is interesting. For me it brings up lots of questions, especially related to gender and culture. Another thing that is interesting is that it talks about how a power position is meant to take up more space, but as an obese woman, taking up more space is what seems to have diminished my power.

Quest potato chips
Inner Surfer Girl replied to miller1109's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I haven't tried these but may in the future. If you need salt may I recommend pickles and/or olives. I love both and have to watch my intake due to the sodium. You can also get a nice crunchy dill pickle or cornichons if you are missing the "crunch". Just an idea. -

It's the ridiculous (in my opinion) fad where women/girls wear tight corsets to have an unnaturally narrow waist. Didn't we learn anything in the 19th century? Bring on the fainting couches.

How long did you wait to start protein shakes?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to alindsey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon said we could start Premier Protein shakes the day after surgery. My NUTs program said only Clear liquids the first week but my surgeon made an exception for Premier and a couple of ProtiDiet Soups. If you need clear protein many folks like Isopure. I used the ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates which are clear. -
What should my macros be @ 23 months out
Inner Surfer Girl replied to wannabheathy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Talk to your NUT, but if you are exercising a lot you may want to increase your protein and complex carbs a little bit. -
Why not ask your NUT? I know my program materials provide sample menus but your NUT should be able to help you develop something based on your preferences as well as teach you how to develop your own.

Hi, Is anyone on the liquid protein preop diet ?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to lisemaria's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are soups and broths. You might check with your program to see if they allow them. -

Are you still getting in your protein every day? -
I don't see why you couldn't add PB2 to full liquids.
-
If you miss the taste of peanut butter you might want to get some PB2. You can add it to protein shakes, pudding, etc.

Bathing Suits Post WLS - I know "first world problems"
Inner Surfer Girl replied to MommyMeghan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was sleeved April 20 and love to swim. Since I am super morbidly obese, finding good suits has always been a challenge. I like the two piece Tankinis from Woman Within. I am wearing a size down from my last-years pre-surgery suit and just ordered another size down so I will be prepared. I am not yet where I can buy suits at a store. But, when I get small enough, I've always liked Lands End suits. It's been a long time since I've bought one from them so I don't know what they are like lately. -
What to do-have to run an all day meeting 17 days postop
Inner Surfer Girl replied to red37's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Can you talk to the person ordering the catering (or the caterer) directly and see what they have that would work? Someone is in charge of selecting the food. If you were a vegetarian or had severe food allergies I would assume you wouldn't be afraid to ask ahead of time. -
I'm stuck in my weight!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to la sole's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Why aren't you trying to pass the 600 calorie a day mark? Why are you counting calories? Are you getting in all your Protein everyday? Are you getting in all your Water everyday? If so, then going over 600 calories is a good thing. If not, then not going over 600 calories is a terrible idea. -
Soft food suggestions?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to carebear42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cottage cheese and yogurt (even though the counted as full liquids) were my goto. Refried Beans with melted cheese. Ricotta bake. The second week of soft foods when I was allowed, I added salmon, tuna, and tilapia. What foods are allowed on your NUTs program. I just went by her list and tried different foods that were allowed that appealed to me. -
What are your "getting back on track" basics?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to jordantaylor's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Whether you are eating out or at home: Eat Protein first. (Make sure you are reaching your protein goal every day.) Drink your Water. -
Weight Watchers Post Surgery
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Capricornrose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did WW online before surgery and it did help me stay on a program. The downside is that the point system does not help you keep track of Protein. I would recommend you still track your food with something like MyFitnessPal in order to make sure you are getting in your protein. If you want a community/group experience you may also want to consider OA. -
Sure. I would be happy to.
-
@@Queen of Crop, I just finished your book and loved it. I would definitely recommend it to folks who are considering surgery.
-
Not necessarily. I have a LOT of weight to lose and went with the sleeve. I think some of it has to do with whether or not you have acid reflux.

Repeatedly overeating
Inner Surfer Girl replied to NoBsVs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some suggestions: Get all your Water and Protein in every day. Eat protein first. Don't buy the food you want to eat that isn't on your plan. Make an appointment with your NUT and possibly a therapist. Attend a support group (and consider attending an OA meeting). -
Did you NUT give you a list of options?
-
When I was on full liquids I was allowed cottage cheese in addition to greek yogurt. I also ate a lot of protein soup.
-
How far out from surgery are you? What phase are you? If you don't like Protein shakes you might want to try ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. It's what I was given in the hospital and they really helped me get my protein in early out. My program does allow adding powdered milk to increase the protein count of milk. You also might try no sugar added carnation instant Breakfast.

Need Advice Please Read !
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Lily_0725's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As others have mentioned any surgery is not without risk but, you can do a great deal to lessen the risk. According to my surgeon the two biggest risk are pneumonia and blood clots. What you can do is follow all of your surgeon's instructions and do everything they ask you to do (as best you can). Walking and using your spirometer are critical. I had my surgery at age 50 and this was my first surgery ever. Surprisingly, it went very well with no pain (just a twinge in my shoulder from the gas).
