    Drinking

According to my NUT, this only applies to lapband and bypass not the sleeve.

How did you choose your doctor?

@@AvalonNeeCee So because you say your surgeon doesn't do lapband anymore, you think that's a reason not to get one?????? Who is your surgeon? Why doesn't he/she do them? I find it almost comical you would post such a reply to someone who is asking for advice on HOW WE. ...THOSE OF US WHO HAVE IT, selected our surgeons. Some of us are very successful and HAPPY with our lapband results. I think it's relevant because if the OP dismissed out of hand any surgeon who no longer does lap bands, just because he or she is considering a lap band, he or she may not get the best surgeon/procedure for him or her. If you narrow the pool you skew the results. BTW, I was sleeved April 20, my surgeon does not do lap bands (that I am aware of), but does revisions. Also, the Lapbanders I talked to said that if they were to have surgery now, they would go with the sleeve.
  3. Ask your surgeon's office. If there are no insurance-mandated wait times, it will depend on your surgeon's schedule once you have completed all the testing and have your last pre-op surgical appointment.

    What about the scale?

I would recommend, based on my observation and opinion, that you hold off for a while. I see too many people drive themselves crazy with the scale. As long as you do what you are supposed to do you will lose weight. It just doesn't always show up in the scale in the short term. Weighing at the doctors and then periodically at your mom's is a great strategy. Once you are seeing the doctor less often you might want to get a scale, I personally wouldn't weigh more than once a week, though.

    New Sleever Needing Advice

If you are looking for fruity protein drinks you also might want to try the ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. They have several flavors and you can eat them over ice, dilute them with water for and/or add them to protein shakes.

    Too many calories?

The number you need to focus on is your protein target. Everyone's calories will vary depending on their specific requirements. Your NUT knows more about YOU than those of us on this forum. I would hesitate to encourage anyone to limit their calories more than their NUT advises, especially if they aren't consistently getting in their protein.

    Merger Mania

FYI Aetna to buy rival health insurer Humana for $37 billion http://money.cnn.com/2015/07/03/investing/aetna-humana-merger/index.html
  8. Slow down and try to learn to stop before you have the last bite that pushes you over the edge. If you take smaller bites, chew thoroughly and wait between bites you will start to learn where your threshold is. Also, weighing and measuring your portion ahead of time will help you tell how much is too much.

OLD dating after surgery, and question about ghosting

I am not dating right now, nor have I in a long time, so take this with a grain of salt. I know many people who have met "the one" online. But, don't forget about more traditional ways of meeting people. Do things you enjoy: hobbies, sports, classes, clubs, church, volunteering, etc. If you go out and do what makes you happy you are more likely to meet people who have similar interests and values.

    Getting fluids in after surgery

    Just sip, sip, sip.

    Go Outside And Play

It's been raining/storming here, too. I am looking forward to playing tennis again. I played in high school on the tennis team but haven't played since college. My dad, in his seventies, plays 2 or 3 times a week.
  12. I was in a brain fog right after surgery. I don't know exactly what may cause your issue other than the usual culprits: dehydration, stress, fatigue and/or a Vitamin deficiencies (or age!). Definitely check with your doctor. In the meantime make sure you are hydrated and get some rest. Maybe someone else has insight.

    Interesting US Bariatric Surgery Statistics

Ditto! I'm surprised that the #'s aren't increasing at a quicker pace year over year.I'm not. Just based on comments on this site it seems that most surgeon's offices are at capacity. The brakes on the system seem to be: insurance coverage, number of qualified surgeon's in this area, and general knowledge and attitude toward WLS. It probably won't increase very rapidly unless our healthcare system (insurance companies and states requiring coverage for obesity) changes radically. Until then, I doubt there will be a large influx of surgeon's. Plus, the time and resources required to train surgeon's and surgical teams will have its own lag time. All of this has to be driven by a general acceptance of WLS and of obese people in general. As a society we claim to hate obesity but what we really hate are the obese. As long as it's generally considered a moral failing to be obese resources for treatment will be scarce. Just my very cursory 2 cents.

    Swimming too early?

Definitely call your surgeon's office. I wasn't cleared for swimming until my incisions had healed over (no scabs or holes).
  15. Why borrow trouble? Until you know otherwise, as long as you have met the requirements I wouldn't worry about it.

    What is NS?
  17. Why would you be "non compliant" if you didn't gain. Wasn't that the requirement you were given?

    Products to make life easier!

Yes, get a good scale and measuring cups. I don't think you need anything "special", just what you like and can afford. Ziploc has 1/2 cup lidded plastic containers. I also got some glass containers with lids (I think they are Libby). Gerber has lidded toddler bowls. I personally prefer adult dishes to toddler dishes so I got some sushi dishes, saki cups, Japanese rice bowls, and some appetizer spoons. Shaker bottles and Water bottles are staples. I just got a couple of insulated water bottles (one for water and one for crystal light) to take to the pool. An insulated lunch bag and ice packs are also helpful.

    Really worried about MALNUTRITION!

So obviously he isn't getting in his protein. If I went all day without protein I would have to be up all night catching up. This early out he should be drinking water or consuming protein almost all the time. A schedule would be very helpful.

Walk, walk, walk. You also might want to try lifting your arms over your head.

    How to be Successful?

I don't think it would hurt to increase your protein either, especially if you are doing a lot of exercise.

    Starting year two, feeling hopeless

You don't mention protein. Are you still getting in all your protein and water every day?

    First Appointment Today

Best of luck and welcome. It sounds like you are on the right path and in good hands. I was sleeved on April 20 and couldn't be happier with my recovery and progress so far.

    Horseback riding post-op

I would think mounting and dismounting would also be problematic in addition to lifting a saddle.
