Protein issues... i could just cry :(
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Marissa.Ann.C's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've ordered 4packs from drugstore.com. I've also gotten 4packs at Walmart and a drugstore (maybe Walgreens or Rite Aid?). -
You can try it if it is something allowed by your NUT. Some people have difficulty early out with spicy foods and some people don't. I didn't. Condiments are great. Just be sure and read labels carefully. Personally, I avoid anything with high fructose corn syrup (like most commercial ketchup).

If you don't want a Protein shake, try a low fat (1%) chocolate milk or just a plain 1% milk after your workout.

I attended an out of town conference this weekend. Since it was in the 90s, I left the sweater I usually take to conferences in my room (and left my wool wrap at home). Of course, the conference center was freezing. It finally occurred to me I could buy one of the sweatshirts they had available on the merchandise table because it would fit! I still got sick but at least I got a new hoodie sweatshirt.

Are you tracking your food? What is your Protein target? Are you reaching your protein target every day? Are you avoiding starches, added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed? As much as you are exercising you may not be eating enough at 1000 calories. Have you tried upping your protein? Are you eating any good, non-starchy carbs? Are you eating enough good fats? Have you talked to your NUT about your concerns?

Hey vets question about stalling
Inner Surfer Girl replied to LxA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I have definitely read it. I was just wondering if doing new things i.e. changing diet, exercising more, etc actually did anything. HW 341 lbs 07/19/16 - 298 lbs 08/09/16 DOS - 286 lbs CW 269 lbs It is hard to say without knowing what you are doing. Are you tracking your food? Are you getting at least 64 oz Fluid? What is your Protein target? Are you reaching your protein target daily? Are you eating enough nutritious food? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as instructed? Are you practicing mindful eating: eating slowly, taking small bites, and chewing thoroughly? Are you avoiding starches, added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods? Are you exercising reasonably? Are you getting enough restful sleep? Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight, you will experience stalls. Everyone stalls and just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. If the numbers on the scale are going to drive you crazy or derail you from your program, then it may be a very good idea to stay off the scale. -

I assume your NUT will talk to you about your goals. She or he will probably ask you questions to assess what you are doing and your nutrition knowledge and skills. He or she will then probably provide you with a plan (it may be basic or tailored to your specific needs if you have particular issues) and then talk about next steps. I could be wrong since I don't know your NUT, but would think most initial appointments go over the usual things.

Protein issues... i could just cry :(
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Marissa.Ann.C's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried any other brands like premier Protein, Syntrax, Quest, or GNC? If you have a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe nearby, see if you can get a variety of single-serves to try. -
Difficulties with liquids?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to skinnyjeansatlast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nectar is a Syntrax brand. -
Psych evaluation. Fail
Inner Surfer Girl replied to sassy_ tiffany's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A postponement and further treatment is not failure. Your psych eval is for your benefit --- so you are as prepared as possible for a safe and successful surgery. I am so sorry you are sad, but getting treatment before surgery will pay off tremendously in your recovery and success post-op. -
NSV - Sweatshirt
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am not planning to wear it to a interview. The conference was an annual meeting for a grass-roots community activist organization ("activist summer camp"). -

Definitely check with your surgeon and read labels carefully. Not all veggie burgers are created equal.

Surgery While Still In School
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Ohwhataworld's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One thing that you may experience post-op is some mental fuzziness. I was really fuzzy and unfocused for at least a couple of weeks post-op. -
after soft foods now what?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to 4u2nvyme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Choose a protein: turkey, tuna, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken, cheese, etc. and add a non-starchy vegetable. -
Exhaustion
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Clarevoyant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds to me like you need more calories. 500 calories seems really low, especially if you are active. That said, you just had major surgery. Napping, sleeping, and resting are perfectly normal. -
Starving!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to jackieu2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No. It is not a good idea to advance your diet without talking to your surgeon. Since you were not given a post-op food plan, I would highly recommend you give them a call and get some clarification. Making it up on your own is not a very good idea. -

Inner Surfer Girl replied to jackieu2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you weren't given a diet plan were you at least give some guidelines for Protein? What is your protein target? (Mine is 100 grams) How are you getting in your protein? Are you getting at least 64 oz of Fluid? When I was on clears, I liked ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. I was also allowed Premier Protein during the clear phase. Some people like Isopure. Bone broth is another good source of protein. If you aren't getting enough protein them you may actually be hungry. -
Calories are relative to your protein. What is your protein target? Are you getting that much, every day?

Too much weight loss?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to BillyD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is possible but not very common. As long as you are getting in all of your protein and fluids and taking your vitamins and supplements you should be ok. What does your surgeon say about your progress so far? -
Protein powder taste?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to SandyinFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unflavored doesn't mean it has no flavor. I would suggest you get some single serve packs of a variety of Protein powders to try before you invest in a large tub. -
How Has Your Food Budget Changed?
