Quick! I need help on this one!

I agree. Just pray for them and ask for the strength to let it go. Your focus and attention should be on you and your husband. I am praying for both of you.

    i think i have bulimia

In the meantime you can go online to www.oa.org. There may be se literature and podcasts that can help you. You can also look for meetings in your area as well as phone meetings.

    Bandages

I just had glue. I was instructed I could shower but just to be careful not to rub/scrub them. The glue eventually comes off on its own.

    Calorie counting and food measuring?!

Try the grocery store or any store that has housewares. Measuring cups and spoons are pretty common, at least in the U.S. Where do you live?

    proudgrammy is very proud

Congratulations! It's great to hear your excitement and pleasure. I always knew you were beautiful inside and out. Now it sounds like your outside matches how you feel.

    Calorie counting and food measuring?!

Definitely make an appointment with your NUT. This is exactly what they are here to help with. Weighing and measuring is easy. You probably will want to invest in a nice food scale. They are fairly inexpensive. You will also need some measuring utensils like a measuring cup (dry and liquid) and measuring spoons. You will get the hang of it. I even went through my kitchen and measured the volume of some of my favorite cups and bowls and wrote the volume on the bottom with a sharpie, so I know if I use a particular bowl it holds a cup, or half cup, or whatever.

    Anesthesia!????????????

Not to scare you or anything but my fear was not of going under bit of waking up during surgery. I mentioned it to the anesthesiologist and he did a great job of reassuring me and explaining how they don't let that happen. For me, being under anesthesia and the actual surgery were the easiest part of the entire process.

    New Sleever!

Welcome to the losers bench. Gas pain after surgery is very common. The best thing to do to get rid of the gas is to walk as much as possible. As far as getting in your Protein and Water during the liquid stage the best advice I can give you based on my NUT's advice and what worked for me: sip, sip, and sip some more. Don't wait until you feel like it. Just keep sipping all day.

    I know better, but I...

When you say you aren't eating all day, how are you getting in all your Protein? You have got to follow your post op plan to stay hydrated and get your protein so you can heal and lose weight. Not eating is not going to help with either of those objectives.

So wish I had the strength...

Make a list of all the benefits and drawbacks of having surgery and the projected resulting weight loss. Make a list of all the benefits and drawbacks of not having the surgery. Do your research, talk to your PCP, attend a seminar (if you haven't done so already). Talk to a therapist or counselor. Only you can decide whether the surgery is right for you but the more knowledge you have, the easier it will be to make a solid decision. The answer you may come up with is yes, no, or not now. But, whatever you decide, make a plan to do something positive for yourself. The fact that you are spending so much time exploring the possibility tells me you know you need to make some sort of change. Change is hard. Maybe that is what you are afraid of?

    Weight loss

I showed a loss on my first post-op follow-up appointment (one week after surgery). I didn't weigh before then.

Eating Rules at 5 weeks post-op?

I am unaware of any "rules" like this. My NUT suggested we plan for three meals an two Snacks a day. Initially, especially when on the liquid stages, these meals and snacks tended to run together. Eventually, I was able to have more distinct meals and snacks. I still eat something about every 2-3 hours throughout the day.

    3 times 10 does not equal 70!

My Protein goal is 100 grams a day so with no more than 20-25 grams per meal, I definitely have to have more than three meals a day. With meals and Snacks, I still need to supplement with a Protein shake on some days.

    Hello from a newbie...

I am so sorry for your loss. It has got to be so hard to go through such a massive change on top of your grief. Please be gentle with yourself and don't be afraid to ask for and accept support from your friends, family, your surgical team, and folks on these boards. I know the early liquid and soft stages are tough but they will be over soon. The good thing is that they aren't forever. Just do the best you can but try hard to get in your Protein and fluids. Both are critical for healing. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.
  16. I am pretty sure this is why they require "supervised" weight loss. The supervision is the key.

Any Real Research on Post Op Guidelines?

I think the reason there can be so much variation in each surgeon's program is because each surgeon applies their own education, experience, and medical knowledge (which includes keeping up with the latest research) and incorporating it into their practice. The practice of medicine is both an art and a science. Of course, I am not s physician so this is only my opinion.

    stretching the pouch!

Sleevers don't have pouches. But, even though we don't have pouches from everything I have learned carbonation is not a good idea, especially when you are newly sleeved.
  19. I don't know. I usually read and respond to threads that I think I may have some insight into or se to have information I seeking. I don't read and respond to every thread or post. Since I was sleeved I rarely even look at the bypass posts unless based on the topic or question I think it might apply. Be patient and keep asking questions. Best of luck with your surgery.

    Insecurities

I'm not ready to start shopping for new clothes, yet but am looking forward to it. You might want to consider going to a good department store that has a personal shopper service and let them help you find some nice pieces. The process of working with someone you feel comfortable with might give you an objective perspective on what looks good on you.

CPAP Machine. I have no love for it.

I made an appointment with my sleep doctor soon after surgery and was switched to one of the new adjustable machines. It works great.

laproscopic or robotic help me choose please!

This is how I felt. My choices were: laparoscopic with my surgeon at hospital A; robot with my surgeon at hospital B; or waiting a bit and having robot at Hospital A. Hospital A had a robot and even though my surgeon was experienced, his team hadn't yet been trained on it. I went with Laproscopic at Hospital A because I felt I wanted everyone who was in the operation to be experienced and confident.
  23. Have you been to a WLS seminar with a surgeon, yet. If so, and if it's a good office, they should have an insurance coordinator who can help you clarify the insurance requirements. Chances are pretty good they have many patients with the same insurance/requirements and can give you some insight.

    I lost how much?

I've lost a newborn giraffe so far.
  25. Inner Surfer Girl

grazing, overeating and weight gain :(

I would think cucumbers would be fine for a snack (or really any non-starchy vegetable) but you will be more satisfied if you have some protein, too.
