protein intake and weight loss connection ! please advise
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Reem Ashraf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are a month post op you can probably get most, if not all of your protein from food. You don't have to have protein supplements. Salad doesn't have protein and is probably too hard to digest this early out (if by salad you mean lettuce and other raw, leafy vegetables). Can you eat Greek yogurt, tuna, turkey, cottage, cheese, etc? All of these foods are good sources of protein. You have to get enough protein to both heal and lose weight. What does your NUT advise? -
can someone please explain the dreaded stall?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Bean80128's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First of all, everyone goes through stalls, it's part of the process. Second of all, it can't be good that you are this far out and eating less than 500 calories and exercising. That cannot be helping and is probably hurting you in more ways than just weight loss. Regardless of whether or not you are stalled, it is important that you get in all your fluids and Protein. The way i understand it, a stall is where your body does the work of losing weight: rebalancing, moving fat around, rewiring blood vessels, shifting tissue, building muscle, etc.: like a huge warehouse that needs to be downsized and made more efficient. (I even visualize little fork lifts busily moving things around, and industrial shelving being dismantled -- that takes lots of material and energy!) I look at a stall as a good thing. It means my body is in this for the long haul. Not just waiting for me to put the weight back on. If you try to starve your body for nutrients, fluids, and protein, it can't continue the work of preparing a smaller body. I don't see my role is to break a stall but rather to help it do its job: by getting in my protein and fluids, and following my plan. I would recommend that you talk to your NUT if you are really concerned. -
Anyone have trouble getting enough calories?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to mataz78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Eat more often. My goal is 100 grams of Protein a day, so I eat four, five and sometimes six times a day to reach that target. And, I don't go to bed until I do. Plan out your Snacks and meals, track your food, use protein supplements in your fluids, set a reminder of you are forgetting to eat, and keep trying. It does get easier. -

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this but have to believe you are in the best place to receive the proper care. I know that not knowing what is going on can be the worst. Sending prayers and hugs . Please keep us posted on how you are doing. -

Post op liquid phase
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Mrs.Boston's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I used ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate, undiluted over ice, early (and later diluted as I could increase my fluids). My surgeon also allowed ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken soups. Premier Protein was allowed for me during clear liquids and I also used GNC lean shake 25 during my full liquid phase. Just keep trying. Getting in all your protein and fluid is very important for healing. -
stretching the pouch!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to kerryyoung's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
People who have bypass do have a pouch which can stretch. Carbonation is not a good idea for bypass folks either. -

I don't know anything about breaking stalls with G2. I do know that increasing your fluids can help.

Costume ideas - rockabilly/pin up type styling ideas?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to CowgirlJane's topic in The Lounge
Add the boyfriend jacket to the dress, with a neck scarf (to hide your hickey), saddle oxfords or tennis shoes, pony tail, bobby socks, blue eye shadow, and bubble gum. You will be a walking cliche bit very cute. -

Love that dress. You could wear that any time, not just for Halloween! -
Costume ideas - rockabilly/pin up type styling ideas?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to CowgirlJane's topic in The Lounge
How about white t-shirt, blue jeans, bobby socks, tennis shoes or saddle oxfords and a boyfriend jacket (letter jacket, or leather jacket? Or men's cardigan. And a high pony tail. Don't forget the scarf around the neck. Edited to add: and bubble gum (sugar free of course) -
Interesting NYT article on semi-starvation:
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Bandista's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It was an Op-Ed, which by definition. Is an opinion piece. I thought it brought up some very interesting thoughts and ideas (which is the point of an Op-Ed). I wouldn't call it a crap article at all. -
OMG Is this really happening?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Jennifer Cunningham's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fortunate. No nausea, very little pain (mostly soreness). I did have pain in my shoulder from the gas, but it was mild. For me, the uncertainty before surgery was really the worst part of the whole thing. Best of luck with your surgery on Wednesday. If you are a person of faith, just say your prayers and trust that you will be ok. Do everything you are asked to do and walk as soon as you are able. Keep us posted. -
Will it really work for me?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to micnic1027's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had gotten to the point pre-op where losing any weight was an extreme battle. To such a point that if I had been required to lose any weight I would have never been able to have surgery. I struggled just to maintain my weight. Post-op, things changed right away. I had a good loss at my one week and one-month follow up, and a very significant loss at my three-month follow-up. It does work. It's not easy. The keys to success are fairly simple though: follow your doctors program, focus on getting in all your fluids and Protein, avoid starches, and exercise when you are cleared. -
Interesting NYT article on semi-starvation:
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Bandista's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is excellent Two things I found interesting. One, the description of the effects of semi-starvation sound like what I experienced as a super morbidly obese person. Two, it is ludicrous to extrapolate results based on a six-day long "diet". That study design was so fundamentally flawed. It was like they had no basic foundation in metabolism or obesity. Or, even used basic common sense. -
How can I be a failure already?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Mini_me007's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are not a failure. You are not even stalled (you are still losing weight). You will stall. Weight loss will occur at different rates. None of this is a reflection on you or your character. Just do what you are supposed to do: get in all your Fluid and Protein. When you are cleared for exercise, start adding in some exercise that is appropriate for your fitness level. And, stay off the scale! -
Quick Poll - best purer food to start on!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to smileygal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I didn't have puréed. My plan was 1 week clear liquid, 1 week full liquid, and one week soft foods. The foods that probably would fit well in your purée stage (but you need to check your program) that worked best for me were: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and refried Beans. -
Good "inexpensive" protein powder?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to HuskerShel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Carnation Breakfast Essentials no sugar added is fairly inexpensive. You do mix it with milk, so I have never calculated the per serving cost. -
I so understand. Mine could be: Today I ________, and didn't pee all over myself. (Fill in the blank.)

First vacation with sleeve - 12 Weeks Out - My Experience
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Daisy Girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so glad for you. I can't wait to be able to walk on the beach again. I just went on a road trip this weekend with my parents. It was so funny because I was sleeved in April so was really particular about where we stopped for fast food. My dad is in the process of getting dental implants so can only eat soft foods. So, we ate at Wendy's a couple of times. Where I just had a small chili, he could do a small chili, baked potato and a Frosty. My mom still offers me food off her plate. Lately, I'll let her give me something like a couple of cherry tomatoes, or s tiny taste of her Protein. His last comment was "boy, I never knew eating could be such hard work." We shared a laugh over that one because certainly agree. -
Any Experiences with Not Obeying Doctors Orders?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to kelseysleevedup's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No. I am curious why anyone would consider defying their Doctors orders. -
30 minutes for lunch is so insane. Years ago I worked for a company, on a time clock that only allowed for a 30 minute lunch. They had a company dining room but you couldn't be seated and served in 30 minutes most days let alone eat. It was crazy.

Sounds like good old-fashioned stage fright or anxiety to me. Break a leg! Can't wait to hear more!
