    One year since surgery update

    Congratulations!

Companies that send free/low cost samples out?

You can get samples directly from the manufacturer. I have gotten samples for free, or a small fee from: Quest (free samples), Muscle Milk (free samples), Syntrax Nectar (sampler pack for a low cost), and Unjury (sampler pack for a low cost).

    Tingles in legs

Definitely talk to your doctor. I have heard of bariatric surgery patients having something like this. It may be related to a vitamin deficiency but I don't know for sure. Your doctor would be the best person to help you.
  4. Hey, I take offense to that. I wrote that "canned" response this morning with one finger, on my phone, thank you very much. (Thanks for referencing it @Bufflehead.) I was going to respond with "Embrace the Stall!" Before I saw @Buffleheads' post. Maybe I could print that on a t-shirt or something. @@Minxie89, all kidding aside, what everyone else said is so true. What you are experiencing is a very normal (and may I add necessary) part of the process. Embrace the Stall!
  5. One of the benefits of going through this process is learning a great deal about the disease of obesity. It is a disease, not a moral failing or a character flaw. I think that as you learn more, you will gain a new perspective and it may allow you to be kinder to yourself than you are today.
  6. Congratulations on deciding to take such a positive step for your health. You are very lucky to be blessed with a father who is willing and able to help you in your Quest. I hear so much negative self talk in this post. Since you are experiencing so many self-esteem issues I highly recommend you consider finding a counselor or therapist to help you through this journey. You may also want to consider attending bariatric support group and/or twelve-step meetings like Overeater's Anonymous. As many people find, the surgeon only operates on our stomach, not on our head. Don't be afraid to ask for help and use every resource and tool available to you so you can be successful. Best of luck and keep us posted on how you are doing. The folks on BariatricPal are an invaluable source of information, strength, and hope.

Share your rants about the fashion industry!

I've found Avenue clothes too tight, too short, and too revealing. It seems their target demographic is more teenager than career.

Grateful, blessed, but NOT losing weight.

LOL, I did a double-take. Your initial post said 35 pounds. This must be a Freudian slip. 35 pounds in a month is great!

    Too many stalls, sigh!

I haven't made it to onederland! I am looking forward to seeing a 3 on the scale. I haven't been there in years. I considered it a miracle that I got below 500.

    Too many stalls, sigh!

What can you do? Relax and stay off the scale if it bothers you so much. As long as you are getting in all your Protein and Water and following your NUT and surgeon's instructions, you are doing what you are supposed to do. Stalls are a normal and natural part of the process. Our bodies are complex systems and not simple machines. Stalls go hand-in-hand with weight loss.

Grateful, blessed, but NOT losing weight.

42 grams sounds really low. The lowest recommendation I usually see is 60-80 grams. My goal is 100 grams. What target were you given?

    Stall... Stall.. Stall

Stalls are a perfectly normal and natural part of the process. The best thing to do if they upset you is to make sure you are getting in all your protein and water and to stay off of the scale.

Grateful, blessed, but NOT losing weight.

Are you getting in all your Protein and Water? What does your NUT advise? Stalls are a part of the process, and as you are still noticing physical changes then it sounds like your body is working to change your body composition.

    High BMI's

I was sleeved April 20th of this year.

    High BMI's

I am, but am not nearly as far along as @Blerdgirl. I don't know if I am far along enough to be considered successful or not, but I am very happy with my progress.

    Birthday Cake

Happy Birthday! I am so glad you found something that worked for you. I am a big believer in simpler is better. Now, if you find a good alternative to almond wedding cake with butter cream frosting (like my sister's wedding cake that I still remember after 20 years) I'm all ears!

    Looking for ways to exercise

Pre-op I got an exercise pedaler and pedaled it with my hands while watching tv. Post-op I walked some until I was cleared to get in the pool. Now that is my primary mode of exercise. You can also find videos on YouTube for sitting exercises. I also recorded some episodes of Sit and Be Fit on PBS, you might want to see if you have that available. Best of luck.

    Big Ole Thanks!

So glad to hear you are feeling well!

    Inpatient or Outpatient

Mine checked for leaks during the surgery but I also had one the morning after surgery. I wasn't allowed anything but ice chips until after I had the leak test.

1 week post op visit surprise

Interesting. How much Protein does that give you? My program called for full liquids for week two.
  21. Stalls are a normal part of the process. Rather than focus on the numbers on the scale, focus on doing your best to get in all your protein and water. Both are critical for both healing and weight loss.

To Those Who Have a Funny Bone

I thought this was pretty interesting.

Should I tell my pcp about my surgery ?

I would think you would definitely need to tell your PCP, especially if you are relying on him or her for post-op care. I had a follow-up appointment with my PCP soon after surgery to update my meds, etc. My surgeon's office also gave me paperwork to give to my PCP to update my records. I also made an appointment with my sleep doctor soon after surgery in order to adjust my Bi-Pap pressure.
  24. I don't think you can over sip. If you are sipping too fast or too much, you will definitely feel it. Just sip as much as you can, as often as you can. Listen to you body.

    Inpatient or Outpatient

Like with any surgery, the pre-op registration is just the initial plan. Ultimately, your doctor will determine how long you stay and whether you can go home when planned or if you will need more time. Everyone is different and will have different needs so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
