  1. You mention eating junk, giving up carbs, and restricting calories, but nowhere do you mention protein or water. Are you reaching your protein and water goals every day? Making sure you are getting enough of protein and water is the foundation of whatever you do.
  2. Congratulations on all that you have accomplished. It sounds like you aren't giving yourself enough credit. Maybe read back over your post and reflect on how far you have come. You obviously recognize that you need help to reach your goal and have reached out here as well as making appointments with professionals in your bariatric team. That is a very healthy and practical way to approach making a change. I am not as far along in the process as you so all I can suggest in addition to the steps you have taken is to go back to basics. Focus on getting in all your Water and Protein and look for some ways to get some exercise. One thing I did, years ago when I was working full-time and going to graduate school at night, was to schedule time in the pool just like I was scheduling a class. You might even want to sign up for a fitness or dance class. Making that time commitment helps me because otherwise I can always find something else to do. Best of luck and keep us posted. And, Embrace the Stall!

The 'Other' doctors and what they say...

This is great. Thanks for sharing the article. It looks like something that would be worth sharing with all of our doctors.

Remodel in my house helping me lose weight..ha

I am sure it's aggravating to go through but I hope you love your new "home". At least it's better than moving!

2 days Post Op: Water even makes me nauseous

Make sure you are taking small, tiny sips. You may want to try different temperatures. Immediately post op I could handle ice chips and Popsicles, but I preferred my water at room temperature.
  6. Someone above mentioned that most beverages are no-nos. When I've flown in the past they have usually had tomato juice or V8 available as an option.

Calcium- what does it mean for us?

Do you have a source on this? It really helps to read the details behind the headlines.

    Help

Maybe you could consider making an appointment with a therapist. Even if you weren't entirely ready, you have had the surgery. All you can do is move forward. Talking to a professional may help, especially if it keeps you from doing serious harm to yourself by not following your post-op food plan. It does get better.

    new to the site

Congratulations and welcome to the site. Learn as much as you can. Take lots of notes, read as much as you can, and ask questions. This is quite an adventure!
  10. Wow. You state this as if it is fact. This may be how your surgeon and NUT advise you, but I can assure you that this is not the general consensus. For my program, all non-caffeinated, non-carbonated liquids count toward my fluid intake.

    Hummus and ?

You've got some great suggestions. Put me in the camp of eating it with a spoon if you can't yet eat crunchy vegetables.

    Did your energy improve?

Not only am I gaining more physical energy, I feel more mentally energized. Except for about a month post-op when I was in a bit of a fog, I am feeling more optimist, hopeful, and generally energetic. I credit not only the weight loss but also since my ability to exercise is improving, I have been able to exercise outside a lot this summer. The combination of sunlight, exercise, and healthy eating are very powerful.

    I'm Jessica who are you?

Congratulations and welcome! Two weeks will go by fast. I was sleeved April 20 of this year and couldn't be happier with my recovery and progress. Just do everything you are asked to do by your surgical team. Post-op, walk as soon as you can and focus on getting in your Protein and Fluid. Keep us posted on how you are doing and best of luck with your surgery.
  14. If you are pre-op then your stomach is intact and you still have your pyloric valve. The pyloric valve is what keeps everything from being "washed" through your stomach. liquids don't stay long in your stomach anyway whether it's a shake or plain Water so it really doesn't matter. The same is true post-op for those of us with sleeves. It's people who have their pyloric valve bypasses who have to worry about this. I wasn't allowed fruit or fruit juices on my pre-op diet. Is that on your approved list?
  15. Sounds like you are prepared and ready for the big day. For me the worst part was the anticipation. Once I was rolled into surgery time has flown by. I started with a high BMI and went with the sleeve. I wasn't interested in bypass and my surgeon is a huge proponent of the sleeve. I couldn't be happier with my choice, my surgeon, my recovery, and my progress. I hope the next weeks pass uneventfully for you.

Around about when does it get better?

Just take it slow and try one new food at a time. As you are able to tolerate more foods you will be able to expand your choices. Before you know it you will be at a new "normal". Just take it slow, focus on getting in all your Protein and Water and you will be fine.

    Toothache / Ibuprofen

Why not call your PCP or surgeon for their advice. I was told absolutely no NSAIDs.

    NSV Lap Swimming

I am continuing to include lap swimming in my workout. Yesterday I kept it up for 50 minutes. That in addition to my usual water aerobics routine felt great.

    Suggestions?

It depends on how far along in your program you are and if you are able to get in your Protein first. Lettuce takes a lot of valuable room (the reason it's such a good choice for pre-op diets) and is fibrous (the reason you may have difficulty digesting it post-op). As long as it's allowed by your NUT, you can still get in your program, and it doesn't cause you digestive issues I would think it would be fine.

    Fat People programs

I am too private a person. I can't imagine why anyone would want to go on a reality TV program.
  21. I noticed today that I hit 150 pounds down from my highest weight. Wow.

    Best Friend... Not so much

I don't know but, it sounds to me like she isn't a very good friend. Apparently, she seems to think your decision about your health is about her. You might need to set some boundaries put some distance between you for now. If she can't give you the kind of support you need, then she will just drain your energy. You have a perfect right and obligation to take care of yourself.

Great to hear and welcome to BariatricPal.

    Re-scheduled surgery

Sometimes you do have to be realistic about scheduling and planning. Now you can take more time to do what you need to do to prepare by not only lining up your support, but also physically and mentally. I had a very long wait for surgery due to some financing issues, so by the time my surgery date rolled around, I was more than ready to get it over with! All the learning, planning, and preparing time really paid off. I wish you the best of luck. November will be here before you know it.
