Day 9 Post VSG, and a little depression

There is no amount you SHOULD lose. Everyone is different. It depends on your starting weight, age, gender, activity level, metabolism, etc. plus, you are going to be pumped full of fluids while in the hospital and will be swollen. I highly recommend staying off of the scale during that time. You will get weighed at your doctors appointments which is plenty early out. Otherwise you will drive yourself crazy.

    BLUE THIGHS

Have you verified this with a blood test? If you are low on K are you taking supplements? One of the supplements I take is a D+K dot. I get it from Drugstore.com.

Day 9 Post VSG, and a little depression

What you are experiencing is very normal and will pass. You are recovering from major surgery. Your hormones are fluctuating from the decrease in fat. You are probably detoxing from carbs and sugar and possibly caffeine if you didn't stop caffeine before surgery. You are unable to use food to manage your emotions. You are undergoing the stress of a major life change. All of these things are converging. It's no wonder you are experiencing distress. I am glad to hear you are seeing your therapist. In addition, try your best to get in all of your fluids and Protein. Being dehydrated will only aggravate things and you need both fluids and protein to heal. Also, if you are able, consider walking outside in the sunlight. It will help. Best of luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

    Feeing like a failure

I am going to have to disagree to a point. A resleeve or bypass is no more magical than a sleeve. If you don't follow the recommended program with the sleeve, getting another procedure doesn't solve anything.

    Harmone dump

Here is a thread I responded to a while back that has some ideas and some suggestions for you to try: http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/348428-Could-use-some-advice

    Hot liquids

Not that I am aware of. As long as you go with herbal infusions ("herb tea") or decaf tea, I don't see why not. You just need to experiment to see what works for you. I like the ProtiDiet Protein hot chocolate. It tastes good and is a good source of protein.

Here is a post I wrote a while back that might help you. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Feeing like a failure

Congratulations on losing 30 pounds. I don't know about you, but pre-surgery, my metabolism was so wrecked that losing any weight was a miracle. As you are probably just now figuring out, the sleeve is not a manic surgery. It is a tool to use in conjunction with healthy eating and exercise to help us reach our goals. It doesn't work by itself. Are you following your surgeon's plan? Are you getting in all of your Protein and fluids every day? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed? Are you exercising? Have you met with your NUT lately? What does he or she advise? Now is a good time to take stock and go back to basics of you aren't happy with your progress.

    Nervous

Best of luck with your surgery. The pre-op anxiety is very common (and in my experience the worst part of the whole experience). Now is the time to pray and accept that you have done the best you can to prepare and trust in the process. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

    I will admit

Other than the anxiety, how are you doing with your recovery? Are you able to get in all of your fluids and Protein? Are you walking? Taking a walk outside in the sunlight can do a world of good when you are feeling anxious or depressed.
  12. I am sorry to hear your surgery was postponed and that you are disappointed. But, I have to believe your surgeon only had your health and safety in mind when he made the decision. It is a blessing that the mass was found. I hope and pray that it is something that can be treated easily and safely. I truly believe everything happens for a reason. Sending hugs and prayers.

Liquid lexapro was suggested... What side-effects are you worried about. Are they any worse than the anxiety you are experiencing now?

    I will admit

I am so glad to hear you are improving. I understand about being hesitant to take meds. I am very conservative about meds, surgery, etc. that said, I have battled depression for years, and meds can save your life. Even if its for a short time, taking something for your depression and/or anxiety under the supervision of your medical team can have so many more benefits than drawbacks for you, I think it would be wise for you to consider it. I hate to see you so debilitated by something that can be treated.

    Roasted Vegetables

I love roasted vegetables. They are especially good in the fall and winter months. They are pretty tasty with just salt, pepper, and olive oil, but here is an article with some other variations. http://www.thekitchn.com/5-easy-ways-to-flavor-roasted-vegetables-223577?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=managed How do you roast your vegetables?
  16. After weaning myself off of soda pre-op, I haven't wanted any. I was in a meeting a couple of weeks ago and someone popped the top on a can and I had a brief reaction of wanting one. But, when I thought about it, I realized my response was just habit and continued to drink my water.

    Ketchup and quiche

I used to eat ketchup on scrambled eggs when I was a kid. Even though you don't have an appointment with your NUT for a while, is he or she reachable by email or phone. I can call or email mine at any time.

    Ketchup and quiche

My surgeon said to avoid the ketchup with high fructose corn syrup.

  23. Thanks for actually trying to acknowledge what I was asking. I am on the all liquids diet now until next Thursday when I go to purees. The liquids are driving me absolutely crazy. I don't believe I'm experience acidity because I'm on a regular antacid already. It is almost definitely partially head hunger, but my abdomen is rumbling and grumbling and my stomach is doing that squeezing thing it does when you're super hungry, which then also makes me feel nauseous. I just don't feel like I'm getting enough in and all I'm eating is Protein. I figure if I have to eat something, it may as well be protein. If I'm going to drink Water, it may as well be Isopure, for example. I AM following the program, and I want to kill everyone. I just want to know when the real light at the end of the tunnel is, because I do not believe this piece of paper I have is it. I believe that when I talk to my doctor and dietician I will get confirmation of that based on everything I've read and the other patient I talked to, but I was wondering what the forum thought and I'm mostly just getting "shut up and listen to your doctor"... You are definitely reading something into my post if you heard "shut up". By the way, are you taking a PPI?
