Just got sleeve 3 weeks ago
Inner Surfer Girl replied to jo96int's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As everyone else has stayed, just hang in there, it does get easier. Just remind yourself when you find yourself wanting something that isn't on your plan that it won't taste very good. You are doing great! -
I Would Like To Treat Myself
Inner Surfer Girl replied to o00's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got one a few months after surgery. I waited that long because I still had/have issues getting on and off the table. After I hit 100 pounds lost I went ahead and made an appointment. It's time for me to schedule another massage! -
Short hair for me. never before
Inner Surfer Girl replied to BairwithMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You look great! I cut all of mine off soon after surgery. It was long enough to donate if I went really short. I have loved it short, especially since I spend a lot of time in the pool. -
I Fell Off The Wagon Big Time. Please Judge Me Harshly!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Proud2BMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT had a great visual example. If you took a big bag of Lay's Potato chips and put them in a blender, you would wind up with a little bit of potato paste and a lot of oil in the bottom of the blender I would imagine that the same thing would happen with movie popcorn. -
It's nice and natural to be concerned about a friend, but you each need to focus on your own journey. You can be empathetic and caring but it is up to her to do what needs to be done: follow pre-op requirements, appeal, etc. Just a guess, but if she gained weight by not following a required pre-op supervised diet, it's very possible that was why she was denied. Don't let this derail you.

Celiac pre surgery! Can anyone tell me if they have and how it has gone?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to ginabean78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't but maybe there are other folks who have. Have you tried searching celiac in the forums. I would suggest that your surgeon and NUT would be the best resource for addressing this question. -
Sharp provolone cheese
Inner Surfer Girl replied to sarahbethemails's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I love cheese, but I found post-op that I do better with the lower fat cheeses. Richer cheeses seem stronger to me. Once you are cleared for soft foods like cheese, the only way to really know is to try it. -
Meal Plans and Nutrionist Vs Paperwork
Inner Surfer Girl replied to kyear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your surgery and welcome to the other side. If your NUT gave you personal instructions before leaving the hospital, I would follow those instructions. Just go slowly, take small sips or bites, and you should be fine. I don't know what it feels like to throw up because it hasn't happened to me. -
How often is WLS aborted?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to DaisyAmy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know how often but it does happen. Your surgeon's primary goal is your health and safety. If your liver is too big or if he finds some other unexpected issue he may choose to not do the surgery. Or, he may fix whatever he finds if he is able. Part of the consent form that you sign for surgery outlines contingencies like this. Why not ask your surgeon this question. He may be able to give you specific numbers, examples, and put your mind at ease. -
Over the Rainbow has a fairly simple melody line. You could use google to find an easy or beginner version of a song you like. You may need to buy the sheet music unless you find something in the public domain.

Just wondering
Inner Surfer Girl replied to anna9/15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok..i am on regular food and doing food , powder and protien from food..i was just wondering.. So if im out at a resturant.how will i calculate the grams in my food? I use MyFitnessPal. Just about everything you can think of is already listed. If not, you can usually find something similar. It really isn't that hard. -
Just wondering
Inner Surfer Girl replied to anna9/15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it's lifelong. To be healthy you need enough Protein and Water daily because our bodies don't store protein and always need to replenish water. I don't know about you, but looking back, I think a major reason I was obese was because I was starved for both protein and water. -
Yes, they should be able to tell you who is in-network and also a Bariatric Center of Excellence.

If you are in the U.S., I believe you can start either way. I started with my PCP and fortunately, he referred me to an outstanding program/surgeon. If you start with the surgeon, they can help you determine whether or not your insurance requires a referral from your PCP. Whichever way you go, I highly recommend you use a program that is a Bariatric Center of Excellence. They will be able to help you navigate the whole process. Best of luck with your journey. It's quite an adventure.

Feeing like a failure
Inner Surfer Girl replied to rrr123114's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with @NewNewMe. I also think the converse is true. If you are still here and seeking help then you aren't a failure. -
Goal setting - small attainable goals or one big one?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Madmax68's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have a lot to lose, so I don't focus on the numbers for my goals. I am more about small goals related to things I can do: ie, drink a bottle of Water before lunch, swim at least 60 minutes of laps three times this week, take 2 water aerobics classes this week, try one new crock pot recipe a week, knitting a scarf for each of my nieces and nephews before Christmas, etc. I consider pounds lost as milestones along the way, and positive results, not something I "control". For me, it helps to make SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Time Bound) goals. Something where I can make a very specific action item that I can put on my calendar to do is the best (ie, go to the 5:45 Aqua Insanity class at 5:45 on Monday). Oops. Left of the big one -- Realistic. -
Have you tried the ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates and ProtiDiet Soups. Those along with the premier Protein really helped me get in my protein during my liquid phase. Get some sonic ice and put the liquid concentrates over a little bit of ice and eat it with a spoon. sugar-free Popsicles also helped me get my fluids. As others have mentioned. You just have to do it whether you feel like it or not. It does get better.

I'm Wondering If Someone Else Can Relate
Inner Surfer Girl replied to o00's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can relate. Being able to spend time with friends and/or family is so much more satisfying than eating a large meal. Order the soup and enjoy every sip. -
Bariatric article published 11/1/15.. A patients perspective
Inner Surfer Girl replied to animallover1247's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BariatricPal does a great job of filling the need of having access to the stories and experience of others who have or are going through the same issues and concern. -
Fatigue, mental confusion?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to foodfighter78's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Definitely check with your NUT. My guess is that you need more carbs and/or fats. -
Out of curiosity
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Ilovecats1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Panic attacks - help
Inner Surfer Girl replied to nursie026's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with @@Ashlegal that just treating the symptom of anxiety will not help you in the long room. I would recommend you find a good counselor or therapist who will help you address your anxiety in a healthy way. -
New body brings new partners -- many new partners
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Done with this's topic in The Lounge
I agree that it is possible that you have transferred addictions. A good counselor or therapist can help you sort through everything. I wish you all the best.
