New body brings new partners -- many new partners

It is indeed a very small world. I have had that book a while. My former therapist recommended it to me, even before I started seriously considering weight loss surgery. I'll have to see if I can find the videos you referenced.
  2. I am doing well and very happy with my progress. I joined the local wellness center and have been swimming three to five times a week. I am feeling good and becoming more mobile.

4 1/2 mths post op- HALLOWEEN! :-) PICS!

Congratulations! You look great. Was the blonde hair part of the costume or did you change your hair color since surgery, too?
  4. What I would suggest is that you see if you can find a counselor or therapist. Especially someone who has experience with eating disorders. Anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating, and compulsive eating (over or under), are all facets of the same disease. See if your surgeon or NUT can refer you to someone. In the meantime, you might want to consider checking out a 12-step recovery group like OA. Their website (OA.org) has meeting lists (both in-person and telephone) as well as podcasts and other materials. You can also see if your surgeon's office has a support group, or knows of any in your area. Dealing with food addiction issues is not easy but there are many resources available if you look for it.

    3 1/2 months and I'm eating like I used to~

One of the surest ways to crave junk is to eat junk. I highly recommend you make an appointment with your NUT today. In the meantime, go back to basics. Make sure you are getting in all of your Protein and fluids, and taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed. If you get in your protein and fluids you are less likely to be hungry. Also, we often think we are hungry when in fact we are thirsty. Also, are you taking a PPI? It's not too late to be successful. Now that you recognize you are struggling and need help, you have taken the biggest step in the right direction. You can do this! Does protein have to come from shakes?

How far out from surgery are you? While I was on clear and full liquids, I like the ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. They taste better to me than Isopure. You might also want to try bone broth. My NUT said that bine broth has more Protein than regular broth. While on liquids, it's hard to get enough protein without using supplements, but it gets easier as you progress to more solid foods.
  7. Hi, Josh. Welcome to this site. You, and your wife, are in for quite an adventure. Congratulations on taking such a big step toward a new life. My advice: learn as much as you can, ask lots of questions, and be patient, proactive, and persistent as you navigate the process. Best of luck, and keep us posted on how you are doing.

    Question about initial weight loss

Also, this is about time for your first stall (which usually comes at the third week). Just one more reason to focus on your Protein and fluids and not the numbers on the scale. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  9. Based on what you posted, I am glad you have an appointment with a therapist. I might even suggest you see if you can get an earlier appointment if possible. You KNOW that eating so few calories is not only counterproductive, it's dangerous. I encourage you to do everything you can to get in your Protein and fluids, whether or not you feel like it. Also, please keep up with your Vitamins and supplements. Do it like it your job, because it is a matter of life and death. Please keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

    Question about initial weight loss

You lost me at not being allowed Protein shakes or soup. Without either of those I would have had a very difficult time reaching my protein goals in the first two weeks after surgery. However you are allowed to get in your protein, my understanding, based on my surgeon's instructions and my own experience, is that it is absolutely critical to do your best to get in your protein and fluids. I didn't worry at all about calories that early out (and they still aren't the primary focus at over six months post-op). Just follow your program and you will lose weight. Please try not to compare yourself to other people. We all lose at different rates. Best of luck.

    Week 4 and stuck

If that is your problem then don't weigh every day. Just stay off the scale.

    How it Went...

Yeah, the children's has high fructose corn syrup which is absolutely ludicrous. I found generic adult at my pharmacy but I had to ask. They didn't even realize they had it until they looked. I used the liquid initially, but further post-op I have been able to use the tablets.

    Week 4 and stuck

What you are experiencing is the third week stall. Just about everyone hits a stall about three weeks after surgery. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. None of us lose weight at a constant rate. Just focus on getting in all of your fluids and Protein, and taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Soon, you will be cleared for most exercise so you can start to add more exercise into your routine. Just follow your program and you will be fine. Denied and not sure what to do

Make the appointment with the Psych. This sounds like what you will need to complete your appeal. The Psych can determine what you need by way of counseling to complete that requirement. Best of luck.

    How it Went...

Thanks for sharing. It's great to hear that you are on the mend. Just one question. Isn't Aleve an NSAID? You might want to double-check on that one. I had good results with liquid Tylenol. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

    Newbie in research stage

Welcome and best of luck with your journey. I can't share any insight into the Canadian process other than there are many Canadians on this site who may be able to provide more insight.i just recommend you learn as much as you can and be prepared to be patient, proactive, and persistent. Best of luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Eating too much, still hungry, stalled

If you aren't getting enough Protein and Water then of course you are hungry. Are you eating slowly and chewing thoroughly? Slowing down gives your stomach time to signal your brain that it is getting enough food. How often are you eating? Have you tried eating more frequently? What is your protein goal? Mine is 100 grams, so I try to schedule out meals and Snacks throughout the day. Getting enough Fluid will help. Have you tried drinking when you first feel these hunger "pangs"? I hope you find a solution. I am glad to hear you are talking to your surgeon about this.

Denied and not sure what to do

Your surgeon's office should be able to help you with an appeal. Maybe they are just missing some documentation. Did you get a psych clearance? Best of luck.
  21. Definitely tell them. If your recovery is anything like mine, they will have you up and walking as soon as possible, and you probably won't have a full nights sleep anyway. They seem to poke and prod pretty frequently. Best of luck with your surgery and keep us posted on how you are doing.

    Recipe for chickpea salad

Looks good. I might try it with black beans instead of corn.
