    Very discourged

Yes, a stall is very common about three weeks after surgery. Almost everyone experiences one about that time. Also, the duration of your stalls can vary. In fact, it's not really a stall as far as I'm concerned unless it lasts longer than a week, but, of course, I weigh no more than once a week, or less often. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. If you intend to lose a large amount of weight then you will experience stalls. Just focus on following your program. Make sure you get in all of your Protein and fluids every day, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise. If you let the numbers on the scale drive you crazy, then the best thing to do is to stay off the scale. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    When are the "typical" stalls?

I get you. That is one major reason I don't set goals related to the numbers on the scale. I have no control over the numbers on the scale. If I were trying to control them, then I am opening myself up to old disordered eating and dieting behaviors (restricting calories and bingeing after thinking "it's pointless", as you so aptly described). I learned from my awesome surgeon and NUT to focus on what I CAN control: my Protein, fluids, Vitamins, and (reasonable) exercise. It sounds counterintuitive, but the best thing I can do for weight loss is to optimize my nutrition (not minimize my calories or other "dieting" strategies). Those actually got me to the place of needing surgery on the first place. I also don't answer the question about how much I have lost with a number. I just tell me everyone who asks that I have lost a lot and that I decided early on not to share specific numbers with anyone. I know it's hard, but this is much more of a mental change as anything.

    The beginning

Welcome and congratulations on taking such a big, scary step towards getting healthier. I was sleeved April 20 of this year and couldn't be happier with my recovery and results so far. This was my first surgery ever myself so I understand your fear. For me the absolute worst part of the process was where you are right now -- in that uncertain place where you are taking a step into the unknown on faith. The absolute best part was the surgery itself because you aren't even aware that anything happened until you wake up in recovery. I woke up coughing and trying to catch my breath, but that was really the worst of my results. I was a little sore, had some gas pain in my shoulder, and was really cold in the hospital. A heating pad and walking helped with both the cold and the gas pain. You can do it!

    Snack after dinner

I don't know if WE can have watermelon but I ate a lot of watermelon and cantaloupe this summer. I think like most foods, you just have to try it to see if you can tolerate it. I wouldn't try it if you are newly sleeved though because there is a lot of fiber and it may be hard to digest.

    Psych eval

The psych eval for me was fairly basic. You may be asked to do a standard psych assessment (usually a series of multiple choice questions) and a discussion. They just want to make sure you know what you are getting into, are capable of understanding and have the capacity to make decisions for yourself. They may also identify any challenges you may have that might be a barrier to success. If you are asked to follow-up it's not a punishment, it's to help better equip you to be successful.
  6. My understanding is that most sleeves are about the size of a small or medium banana, so eating a whole banana so far out doesn't sound so far out. The issue might be that if you eat a whole banana then you won't have room for protein. A corn dog is about the same size but since it's fried you may have other issues besides it being too large.

    Snack after dinner

A piece of fresh fruit, yogurt, cheese sticks, cottage cheese, cheese (can you tell I like cheese), peanut butter, pudding, protein shake, and similar.

One year out - can I still lose?

You can do it. Just don't give up. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

24 days and can barely sit or stand

Light headed east might be dehydration, vitamin deficiency, and/or blood pressure. What does your surgeon suggest? Have you had a follow-up recently? Have you seen your PCP? I saw both my PCP and Sleep doctors within about a month post-op to check meds, CPAP pressure, etc.

One year out - can I still lose?

I am sure it is possible to lose more weight. It just may take longer the closer you get to goal. Have you met with your NUT recently to talk about your goals? Are you following your program? Are you tracking your food? Getting in all of your Protein and fluids every day? Taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed? Exercising? Without knowing what you are doing now then it is impossible to predict whether or not you can reach your goal by continuing to do what you are doing now. Does that make sense?

@@Kindle, I forgive you! I know it gets aggravating to keep repeating the same thing over and over (I think someone called my response "canned" one time). But, it's hard to remember what it was like when we were new. I hope that whether this is the first post you ever read or the 5,000th, you can find something helpful, even if it's just a reminder of how far you have come or a smile of recognition. By the way, if you are a newby reading this for the first time, @@Kindle has quite a success story with lots of great advice and experience.

24 days and can barely sit or stand

I am so sorry you are experiencing difficulties. Is the problem actually sitting or standing or is it the getting up and down to sit or stand? I know when I first get out of bed in the morning I still have trouble getting up because of stiffness and soreness, but after I actually get moving I feel much better.
  13. Thanksgiving was my first real "food-focused" holiday so I was able to start putting into practice what I planned. I did this for the 4th of July and other celebrations, too. Protein first, recording my food, and meeting protein and Fluid goals are non-negotiable. After that I didn't completely restrict my eating. I ate turkey. I had small portions of things I really love. I had a tablespoon each of dressing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. I even had a small slice of pumpkin pie. I ate slowly and the enjoyed the conversation. The day after I even had a 'Smore around the fire pit. That was great because I hadn't had one in years because I was "dieting". Even indulging, my calories stayed pretty low because I had Premier Protein, Greek yogurt and cheese sticks on hand.

And not only do they not use the search function to see that their questions and fears have already been addressed a zillion times, they don't even bother to put their post in the stall forum where it belongs. [sigh] ....it's hopeless. Newbies just won't ever change. As a Newbie, I think your comment is quite harsh. I have not even had surgery yet, but looking at the forum so I know what to expect. Please consider that Newbies are just that, NEW. Not everyone has the hang of this site yet, and searching is very very difficult on mobile. I've been watching this forum for a year, and have not even seen a section for stall. Being rude, is not helpful to anyone. I apologize if you thought I was being rude. As a matter of fact, I bumped the post because it was posted a while back so thought it would be helpful if it were in the newer feed. I realize that most new folks are unfamiliar with the site and with common topics because the are just that -- new.

Sounds like it. You can't expect to see 3 or 4 pound daily losses on a daily basis.

Confused on which surgery to look into

I started out at a higher weight and BMI than you and was sleeved April 20 of this year. I couldn't be happier with my progress and recovery so far. You need to talk with your surgeon about the pros and cons of each surgery as it relates to your specific needs. You don't have to decide today. Let your surgeon help you weigh the alternatives. He or she is the expert.

    When are the "typical" stalls?

You are just driving yourself crazy for no reason...Hey, here's a theory....maybe hairloss is the result of everyone stressing over stalls and not losing "fast enough", not the actual surgery! I buy that...anxiety = hair loss. Makes sense to me.

Bumping this because I have already run across at least 4 stall posts today (and it's not even Monday)!

Welcome and best of luck with your surgery!

    So hungry!

Follow your NUTs instructions. My surgeon's guidelines were 100 grams for all men and anyone who started at over a 50 BMI and everyone else was 80 grams.

What will I be when I grow up?

Some more suggestion to start with: In your notebook or journal: Start a LOVE and LOATH list: what you LOVE about your current and previous jobs and what you LOATH about your current and previous jobs. Also, start a list of your skills and accomplishments. (Gather old resumes, and work product to help you remember.)
