  1. Is this still good or is it over now? I didn't get a chance to shop yesterday so was just curious.

    My First Vacation Since Sleeve

Wow, what a fabulous opportunity. Who cares what the scale says every day? Weighing every day gives you no valuable or actionable information in my opinion. You are just capturing the small, normal fluctuations in Fluid retention anyway. I normally don't weigh more than once a week (or less often). Plus, changes in elevation, location, different scales, are going to give you different readings anyway. It sounds like you are following your plan, so relax and enjoy your vacation! The scale will be there when you get home.

24 days and can barely sit or stand

I am so sorry to hear you are still experiencing difficulties. Is your lightheaded was and dizziness like vertigo by any chance? Were you given an anti nausea/motion sickness patch in the hospital? I know I wore one for several days after I got home from the hospital. Was that brought up as a possibility at all during the ER visit?

    Insurance Issues

If you are in the US, It really varies by State. If your state requires obesity treatment then most plans are required to cover it under the Affordable Care Act. If not, then it is very hard or impossible to find individual plans that cover it and rare to find employer plans that cover it unless it's a large, nation-wide employer or the employer is willing to pay extra and negotiate for the coverage (which is rare). So, basically it depends on the state.

    at a stand still

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. No one loses at a constant or predictable rate. If you are intending to lose a large amount of weight you will stall periodically. Most folks experience their first stall about three weeks after surgery. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as recommended, and exercise. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Why no liquids with food?

Follow your surgeon's plan, but these instructions are more for bypass than for sleeve. Sleever's have an intact pylori a so we don't have to worry about "washing" food out of our stomach like bypass folks do. I was advised to drink right up until the time I eat. I tend to wait a bit after so eat just because I don't have room and it's uncomfortable.

    things needed post op

There is at least one very long thread about this topic on the site. You may want to do a search to see what comes up. Off the top of my head: A food scale. Measuring cups and spoons. Blender bottle(s) for shakes. Water bottle(s). Small dishes and eating utensils. (Some folks like toddler dishes, I like appetizer utensils and dishes, or sushi dishes. Saki cups make good small cups for the when you are drinking an ounce or two at a time. Some people use medicine cups from the hospital. Some folks have shot glasses.) Food storage containers for leftovers or when you make large batches. Heating pad. Chapstick. Tylenol. Decaf teas and herbal infusions. sugar-free Popsicles. A bag of Sonic crushed ice for the freezer (if you are fortunate to enough to have a Sonic near you). For the hospital: Chapstick Biotene A firm pillow for the ride home. Heating Pad I am sure other folks can give you some ideas.

    Intro and some questions

Welcome to the site and congratulations on taking such a big step. I understand your fear. But, you have got to eat. I would suggest that you go slow by trying one new food at a time. Eat very small bites, chew thoroughly (when you get to food you can actually chew), and take your time eating. If something doesn't agree with you, don't push it. Just try it at a later time if you want. You will gain more confidence as you become successful. You might want to consider using an appetizer or toddler-size spoon or just the very tip of a regular teaspoon to take tiny bites.

    Paraplegic

@@nfjchester, I have been thinking about you and what you may need to adjust. The only thing I can think of would be related to your abs/core. I don't know how much you use your abs but that is where I was sore immediately post-op. I had some trouble getting in and out of bed without help because I couldn't fully engage my abs. This is something you will definitely want to discuss with your surgeon. They usually have restrictions on lifting anything over about 10 pounds because of the risk of herniating your incisions. I hope you are able to find someone with direct experience.

    Very discourged

I know. Too often I hear people, including doctors and medical professionals, who assume our bodies are simple machines and not highly-calibrated and complex systems.

A Taco, not Tacos. Or, just eat the insides. Make a taco salad with the base being meat and/or Beans.

    Stick a fork in me

I don't think there is anything wrong with requesting that you talk with both of them together. It just may take some scheduling effort. The important thing for this is that you be patient, pro-active, persistent, and positive.

    Slow Weight Loss :/

I just answered this in another post. What you need to focus on is getting in all of your Protein and fluids. If you do so, your calories should fall into place.
  17. Inner Surfer Girl

    Very discourged

You definitely need more calories, but that is not the primary goal. The numbers that you need to focus on are your Protein and fluids. Are you reaching your protein and Fluid target? If you are reaching your protein goal then your calories should fall into place. What is your protein target? Are you reaching it? Are you getting in at least 64 oz of fluid a day? Tracking your intake is the only way you will know how to answer those questions.

So it turns out my wife is gay...

It sounds like you have built a satisfying life together in many ways. Whether you have to make a major change to your living arrangements now or in the future, you don't have to decide anything today do you? You have time to explore options and look for possibilities. Just being open to ideas will help you navigate the unknown. Solutions that you never thought of in a million years may find you if you have faith and patience. Are you a praying person? Prayer works. Just do what is next. You don't have to have all the answers. But, you do have to have lots of questions.

    Night cravings

Congratulations on losing 50 pounds and realizing you need help. I don't really know what you mean by night cravings. It might be head hunger or it may be that you are actually hungry. To address actual hunger, the best thing you can do is stay well-nourished. For me, that means following my program. Getting in all of my Protein and fluids every day, taking my Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercising. Try planning for a small, high protein snack before you go to bed. If it's head hunger, and you let it control you, then you may need to talk with a counselor or therapist.

What will I be when I grow up?

Another book/workbook I recommend is The Artist's Way. It's not exactly a career book, but it can help you tap into your creativity. You can also check out the author's (Julia Cameron) website for some activities and inspiration. The Artist's Way Starter Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/1585429287/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_2xhxwbCFH8VY9

    Stick a fork in me

I am so sorry to hear this. You aren't a failure, you have been ill. Please make an appointment with your NUT and your surgeon to go over your health issues to come up with a plan to move forward. Do you really have a choice but to do everything you can to regain your health? Never give up!

    What’s Your Restaurant Secret?

I usually get a Protein (either appetizer or entree size) and a vegetable side. I like: shrimp, steak, pork tenderloin, grilled chicken, grilled or baked fish, etc. I have also gotten a sandwich without the bun or bread. I do this all the time when I eat fast food. The other day I got a turkey wrap at a local restaurant and ate half and brought the rest home for later. Sometimes I get soup or chili.
