Anyone's first surgery?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to sarinemaniss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was my first surgery ever and had no idea what to expect. It really went well and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. -

Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise. None of us lose at a constant, steady, or predictable rate. Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Thinside's topic in The Gals' Room
One of the many things I am looking into being able to do is to go into a vintage or resale shop and try on cool clothes. Even trying on clothes in a regular boutique or department store without frustration would be fun. -
Soup and shaking
Inner Surfer Girl replied to meganmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first guess is that you are dehydrated. Try crushed ice and sugar free Popsicles. Keep sipping but you got to get more fluid. Talk to your surgeon, you may need pedialyte. -
Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Thinside's topic in The Gals' Room
You always have a reason: "Because I want to wear an evening dress." Your assignment: Wear an evening dress or at least a cocktail dress the next time you have leftovers for dinner and stay in to watch TV. After than, take your show on the road. If you watch the Oscars, dress for the red carpet. I mean it. And take pictures! -
Soup and shaking
Inner Surfer Girl replied to meganmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How are doing in getting in your fluids? I would suggest you give your surgeon or PCP a call about the shaking. I know a lot of people ate regular soups, but I liked the ProtiDiet soups because they have a lot of Protein. I like the cream chicken and tomato basil. -
Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the weight loss process. Other than a stall at about three weeks post-op, I am not aware of a particular pattern that applies to everyone. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

Protein powder-do you really need it?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to jhbeck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am over 6 months out and I don't rely on it, but it is a convenient and easy way to bump up my protein if I am short. -
I went to subway yesterday for the first time post surgery and got tuna salad and cheese in a cup. I got another cup with toppings: tomato, cucumber, peppers, olives. It was delicious. At other places, like Arby's, I just get a sandwich without the bread (for instance turkey club).

I am not aware of a pill form of Protein. There is unflavored protein but not non-flavored protein. You can try unjury or Quest. I am not familiar with other brands but there may be some out there. As far as protein supplements go, I personally like: Premier Protein (chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry with chocolate as my favorite), GNC Lean shake 25 (orange cream is my favorite), ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate (various flavors) -- either undiluted over crushed ice, diluted with Water, or diluted with water and Mio drops or crystal light added, Quest (salted caramel) Syntrax nectar (fuzzy navel) ProtiDiet hot chocolate ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil Soups Unjury chicken Soup WonderSlim dark chocolate protein pudding Quest bars (double chocolate chunk and s'mores) Kay's Naturals protein chips and cookie bites Mr. cheese O's Just keep trying different supplements. You can get sample packs. Also, if you go to GNC you can try some samples there. It is absolutely critical for healing and weight loss that you get in enough protein. How you get it is up to you and your NUT/surgeon. The reason we rely on supplements is that it really is the easiest way to get in enough protein when you are healing from surgery.

Body Fat Testing - Bod Pod
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Margie122's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven't but many years ago, when I was in college, I had the assessment where you get in a tank of water. I wish I would have kept the results. It would be interesting to see. -
i have been going to planet fitness since I was three weeks out of surgery. I used the treadmill until I felt comfortable doing more. I was going as my hubbies guest. Three weeks ago I joined so I could start working with the personal trainer(free with black card) I start my actually training Wednesday of this week. He will help me to figure out the settings on each machine so I am using it correctly. Also he will figure out the weighs that I need to be using so that I am not over doing it. I am going to stick with the trainer and use him as much as possible to get toned and to my goal weigh and maintain the weigh for awhile before I change anything up. Then I will consider the y because I will be able to use the pool and not feel like everyone in the place is starring at me. Also by working with the trainer and having him check me every so often I will know I am lifting the correct weight and doing the correct form. After about 6-8 months of working with him a believe that I will know every machine in the gym and how to use it correctly. I have met him the trainer twice and told him he was going to be stuck with my for awhile. So hopefully my plan works and then by the middle of the summer I will be ready for the pool!! BTW, my stats are HW-Jan 2015(seminar Jan 8) 265 SW-June 15-240 Today-187 So I have loss and hopefully the personal trainer can help get the last 22 pounds off as my goal weigh is 165. This sounds like a great plan except for the part about putting off getting into the pool because you are afraid of everyone staring at you. Believe me, no one will be staring at you. If you think they are it's probably because they don't have on their glasses and can't see (like me).

Dairy stops weight loss?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'll never know because I will never test your theory. If it weren't for dairy products I would starve. -

I "decided" to follow my program as instructed. I had a great recovery. Why risk a setback? -
I HAVE DECIDED!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to canadian_girl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This fear is very common and very normal. This was my first surgery ever so I had no idea what to expect. There is a risk for surgery, but compared to the risk of not having surgery there was no comparison for me. The chance that I wouldn't wake up every time I went to sleep was higher than not waking up after surgery as far as I am concerned. The reality for me was that the surgery was the easiest part of the process. Other than having a little trouble catching my breath when I woke up and a raw throat, it was a piece of cake. -
Depressed don't know what to eat
Inner Surfer Girl replied to scarlep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every culture has a staple starch or two. That is just how we have evolved. It's also why many of us need weight loss surgery. -
full liquid misinterpretation
Inner Surfer Girl replied to dstined4gr8tnes's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
They did. But my issue was I "thought" instead of checked. I was very clear on the clear liquid but when I heard full later im like ok. Basically some smart people are dumb...and I had a dumb moment. Dstined4gr8tnes I like to think I'm fairly smart, but I didn't eat anything the first month without checking and double-checking my post-op guide. Is like my brain went on hiatus I was in such a fog. -
Experiencing Some Success!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Slim-Shady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations! This is more than SOME success. Sounds like you are both doing great! -
My first week was clears (with a couple of exceptions allowed by my surgeon). The priority is Protein and fluids. I liked ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. Some people like Isopure. Syntrax nectar. Bone broth/broth (bone broth has more protein) or bouillon. I was also allowed Premier Protein and ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil Soups even though they aren't technically clear. By the second week, I was on full liquids. I did have an occasional V8 then just for variety. Check with your program to see what you are allowed. If you feel you must have juice, make sure it is very diluted.
