    Post-op diet with real food?

I was sleeved and at my year follow-up was advised I could drop all the extra vitamin supplements and just take a daily multivitamin. If you get a sleeve you should be able to get all the nutrition you need from food eventually. Bypass folks need to supplement their vitamins and minerals for life.

EWWWW!! I don't want to sleep under YOUR covers tonight. You were not invited. I actually brought home most all of them so will be eating them for a few days...

    My story thus far

What is your protein target? 70 grams seems low for a guy. Mine is 100 grams.

    My story thus far

Just be careful and don't make it too hot. Some protein supplements don't do well if they are too hot. I like ProtiDiet hot chocolate.

Question for sleevers with a start of 350 +

I started at a considerably higher weight than you. I'll try to answer your questions the best I can. I don't know how much or even if I lost weight on my pre-op diet. My goal was to shrink my liver. I didn't weigh. I did lose a lot of weight between the time I was last weighed pre-op and my first follow-up appointment and again for my second follow-up. I don't remember how much. I don't remember how much I lost each month. I do remember I blew through my hundred pounds. I have lost over 200 pounds. Early out, I only weighed at doctors appointments. I still only weigh infrequently. Staying off the scale and not focusing on those numbers is the strategy I have chosen to follow. The only thing I need to focus on us following my program, getting in all my Protein and Water, taking my Vitamins, and exercising. I am over a year post -op (was sleeved April 20, 2015) and am over half-way to goal. My goal weight is arbitrary. I really don't know what my final goal weight is. For now, it is 150 but even 200 would be fabulous. I have lost over 200 pounds. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Frustrated beyond belief!

Are you taking a PPI? Stomach acid can mimic hunger. You need to get a lot more protein. You are starving. No wonder you are hungry.

    Frustrated beyond belief!

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience stalls and weight fluctuations. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight you will experience stalls. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. Just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein (what is your protein target?) and at least 64 oz Fluid. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. Stay off the scale. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall.

    Your exercise routine

I just walked some until I was cleared to get in the pool at about 4 weeks post op.

    Surgery on April 11

Welcome! It is hard to get in protein and fluids, at least initially, but you have got to do your very best to get it all in. Protein is critical for healing and weight loss. My surgeon's protein target for me is 100 grams. (80 grams for women with a starting BMI under 50 and 100 grams for everyone else). Pre-op prep, mental and physical

Weaned myself off of carbonation and caffeine. Practiced mindful eating: eating slowly, taking small bites, and chewing thoroughly. Shopped - got things like a good scale, small dishes and utensils (sushi and appetizer/salad plates, bowls, etc), food storage containers, etc Sampled different Protein supplements Read and learned as much as I could Journal Exercise Practice polite persistence and patience.

    Post-op diet with real food?

The challenge immediately post-op is being able to get enough Protein when we can't consume a large volume. That is why protein supplements are critical early out. Also, it is why relying on vegetables for enough protein can be nearly impossible early out. When you are able to consume a large enough volume of food to reach your protein targets there is no reason to use protein supplements other than preference and/or convenience. For me, to get in my 100 grams of protein, during my clear and full liquid phases, protein supplements were critical. Getting in enough protein is critical for healing and weight loss.

    NSV: Massage

As some of you know, one of my favorite rewards is getting a massage. I had one this week and was thinking about what progress I have made since surgery. When I started getting massages I wasn't even sure if I could get on the massage table and needed help getting on the table and off. Now, I can get on and off the table all by myself as well as turn over on the table by myself, too!

    Just beginning my journey

Protein is critical for healing. See what you can do to increase your protein as soon as possible. According to my surgeon there is no physical reason someone couldn't consume three premier protein shakes the day after surgery. It isn't easy but it is doable.

    How much do eat.

My Protein goal is 100 grams protein. So at one week, I was on full liquids and consuming 100 grams protein and pretty close to 64 oz Fluid.

    Just beginning my journey

20 grams protein is extremely low. My protein target is 100 grams. What is your protein target? You need to be doing everything you can to get in all of your protein and fluids. Sip, sip, sip, and sip some more.
