I had a hair dresser who used to say his mom lost a Backstreet Boy. To reach my goal I'll need to lose all of the Backstreet Boys! -
Advice that makes you crazy.
Inner Surfer Girl replied to RoscoColetrain's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I made up my mind right after surgery not to share numbers. So, when someone asks I just tell them that. I tell them I have lost "a lot" and don't share specific numbers. They seem to get the idea and don't keep asking. -

Were you given any written documentation or a guide? -
early stall?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Jewel961's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
None of us lose at a constant and steady rate. Right after surgery our bodies are healing and going through fluctuations. I suggest you weigh infrequently. I only weighed at my doctors appointments for the first few months after surgery. Just focus on following your program. Make sure you are getting in all of your Protein and fluids, taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise when cleared. You will stall periodically. Most people experience their first stall about three weeks after surgery. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -

I think the OP left this site several months ago. -
CPAP - before and after surgery?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to RollingRing's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I haven't yet, but a few weeks after surgery I switched to a CPAP that automatically adjusts the pressure because the pressure was too high. You might want to make an appointment with your sleep Doctor after surgery to see if you need any adjustments. -
Calories and carbs
Inner Surfer Girl replied to saraburnett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sure. Greek yogurt, tuna, turkey, cottage cheese, chili, eggs, etc. Didn't your NUT provide you with a list of protein-rich foods? -
Calories and carbs
Inner Surfer Girl replied to saraburnett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is really low for Protein. I was about 1000-1200 calories a day at your point but that was with at least 100 grams of protein a day. I don't think 50-55 grams a day is doing very well on protein. The minimum my surgeon suggests is 80 grams and that is for women who started out with a BMI of 50. At 4 months out I was getting most of my protein from food. -
Calories and carbs
Inner Surfer Girl replied to saraburnett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That sounds really low for both calories and carbs. What is your protein target? Are you reaching your protein target every day? Your calories and carbs should be dependent on your protein. What does your NUT advise? -
The 3 8 oz shakes gives you 24 oz of fluid, so you only need to get in at least 40 more ounces of water. Can you sip more frequently? I literally sipped all day during my first few weeks and did not go to sleep until I had reached my goals.

What is your daily exercise routine?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to shriner37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I swim: lap swim, Water aerobics, water weights, etc. I don't work right now so it's fairly easy for me to get to the pool most days. One thing that has helped me to get into a routine is to attend classes. Are there any group classes that appeal to you? If so, whether they are drop in classes or classes you have to sign up for, consider committing to attending class for 6 weeks, put it on your calendar, and attend. -
Vitamin / mineral Deficiencies with VSG
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Kindle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. Take your vitamins and supplements as instructed (especially following the recommended schedule). Getting regular blood work is something that is fairly easy to do immediately post-op that we may get slack on the farther out after surgery we are. -
Try to find one thing a day to do/focus on. Either a habit you want to change or something positive and healthy to do. One positive thing you can do is journal. For today: write out a list of at least three things for which you are grateful. Do you have any hobbies?

SO Tired of Protein Drinks!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Greek yogurt has more protein than regular yogurt. I like Dannon Light & Fit Greek. Just read labels. -
I just went to see Star Wars yesterday (3D) and was able to sit in the seat and made it through the whole movie. My legs were a bit stiff/sore but I made it through!

I have battled depression for years. May I recommend you also talk to a counselor or therapist? There is nothing wrong with seeking professional help to deal with depression and issues related to self esteem, image, weight loss, etc. See if the psychologist who cleared you for surgery can see you or refer you to someone who is experienced working with weight loss surgery patients. I also recommend a book I read recently. It's called Eat it Up! and was written by a therapist for people who have undergone weight loss surgery.

Detox / cleanse
Inner Surfer Girl replied to confusedgirl18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Then just follow your program. Make sure you are getting in all of your Protein and Fluid and avoid starches and added sugars. Eating cleanly is the best way to get sugar and carbs out of your system. -
You don't have a requirement for Water? Are you sure? I have never seen anyone who hasn't had a requirement for a minimum of 64 oz of Fluid a day. Hydration is critical. Also, are you sure you have to wait 30 minutes after a Protein shake to drink water? When I was on liquids I was sipping something all day. Please double-check with your NUT.
-
Congratulations on your weight loss. I know it's hard to deal with the expectations of family members, especially when they don't truly understand how hard it is. I agree with the question above. Are you happy with your weight loss? Do you want to lose more? Have you talked with your NUT about your goals? You get to decide how you want to proceed from here whatever your particular goals are.
-
I wasn't a slow loser initially but I also started at a very high rate. Since you aren't happy with your weight loss so far have you talked to your NUT? Are you reaching your Protein and Fluid target every day?

Advice that makes you crazy.
Inner Surfer Girl replied to RoscoColetrain's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is when you say: "Gee, thanks. I wish I'd thought of that!", with a big smile. Then walk away. Like when Doctors used to tell me I needed to lose weight. -
Detox / cleanse
Inner Surfer Girl replied to confusedgirl18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not convinced they are healthy or effective. This is something you might want to talk with your NUT about.
