  1. Congratulations on taking such a big step toward health. Fortunately, everyone I have shared with has been 100% supportive, at least in my presence as far as I know. I'd like to think everyone has been genuinely happy for me. As to other people's reactions, please remember it's a reflection of them and their insecurities and/or self-esteem issues and not yours. Also, especially as it relates to your friend, we can't compare our journey to anyone else's. I have known so many people who suffer from anorexia and bulimia who have tremendous body and self-esteem issues to learn that we just can't go down the road of comparing. Try to stay positive and focus on you. Learn to set boundaries if you aren't very good at it already. A book I highly recommend is one I read fairly recently by a therapist who works with bariatric surgery patients. The book is Eat it Up! and it addresses the issues you have brought up. Also, it wouldn't hurt to consider finding a good therapist or counselor and participating in a support group. Best of luck. This experience is so much more than just having surgery. It changes your life.

    It's a Marathon, Not a Sprint!

Protein is vital. If you struggle with it now, then that is something you may want to work on pre-op with your NUT. Getting enough protein and Fluid is absolutely critical post-op.

    It's a Marathon, Not a Sprint!

Pre-op I had been using the Weight Watchers app to track my food so I continued with that per my NUT. But, once I got to post-op I switched to MyFitnessPal because 1) it tracked protein and macros (and Weight Watchers didn't), 2) it's easy to use, and 3) it's free.

    Vitamin B1 deficiency

A B1 supplement has been on my list of required supplements from the beginning. I am not sure why it wasn't included for you but if you are low and have been asked to take it, then take it.

Tick, tock.. surgery in the morning

Best of luck! The only thing I can suggest is to do everything you are asked to do, even if you think you can't. Getting up and walking as soon as possible after surgery will help you feel much better soon. Be gentle with yourself and walk as much as you can. Keep us posted on how you are doing. By the way, I gave my phone to my mom with instructions not to give it back to me until I was coherent. I didn't want to risk posting or texting while loopy!

    Why not ask your NUT?

    Water?!?

Are you sure it's not a 2 oz per hour minimum and not an upper limit? This is from my booklet. ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1451354555.845750.jpg I can see sipping that slowly the first day or two post-surgery because you have to, but not as you are healing and the swelling goes down. Please double-check with your NUT. Staying hydrated and getting in your protein is so critical. I'd hate to see you wind up in the ER.
  12. Yes, I found it is much easier than I anticipated. I had an awesome surgeon, great support, and an very uneventful recovery. I have found the post-op program simple (not necessarily "easy") and straightforward. I also had the benefit of years of therapy and recovery and working on food issues that I believe has played a huge part in helping me through this process. I have come a long way and have a long way to go, but I am more hopeful and optimistic than I have been in years.

    I am scared to death!

What you are feeling is very common. This was my first surgery ever so I had no idea what to expect. I went from 150% against surgery (I was sure I would be the one failure, etc.), to ready to get it over with when time for my surgery arrived. I read and researched and listened to my surgeon and NUT. The more I learned the more I came to realize how dangerous it was for me NOT to have the surgery. I am disabled with mobility issues. I was sleeved April 20th of this year and couldn't be happier with my recovery and experience. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I am getting my life back and regaining my mobility. I swim laps and do Water aerobics at least an hour and a half 4-6 times a week now. For me, the risk for not having surgery was much greater than for having it. Once I realized that I haven't regretted the decision for one second. I have a long way to go, but couldn't have dreamed of making this much progress with years of dieting.

    It's a Marathon, Not a Sprint!

When I was preparing for surgery I tried to focus on one goal at a time. I weaned myself off of carbonation and then weaned myself off of caffeine. I increased my Water to at least 64 oz a day. I aimed to exercise 60 minutes a day. I practiced mindful eating/eating slowly. I ate more vegetable and fruit/ate more cleanly. You can do this! April will be here before you know it.

    Feeling rubbish

Are you getting in all of your Protein and fluids? Are you taking all of your Vitamins and supplements? Have you had your blood tested lately? Have you had your blood pressure checked lately? Have you had your annual flu shot? Is a bug going around? Definitely check with your doctor. It may or may not be something related to your sleeve or nutrition but your doctor would be the best place to start for an answer this far after surgery.

    Where to purchase sample protein?

I was able to order a sample pack directly from Syntrax a while back. You can also get samples and individual serving packs directly from Quest. GNC is also a good place to sample shakes.

    Water?!?

This is very common right after surgery. Try sipping (tiny sips). Try water enhancers, decaf tea, herbal tea, and different temperatures. Just keep trying. It does get better. Sip, sip, sip.

    Hey Veterans help

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience of losses and stalls. As @@Babbs mentioned, most of us experience a stall about three weeks after surgery. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. And, exercise. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Calorie count

This is a great question to ask your NUT. It is relative depending on your protein target, etc.

    Vitamins

You should get a required list of vitamins from your surgeon. I get all of my vitamins from the pharmacy (usually drugstore.com for me) except my Calcium. I like Bariatric Advantage calcium chews and get those from Bariatric Choice or from the Bariatric Pal store. My PA suggested that if I was confused to take the list to a local pharmacy when they aren't busy and they can help you find everything. Since I order from drugstore.con I just search their site for what I want.

    Any Missouri people

Just an FYI, you can get clear protein. Try Isopure or ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. Also, bone broth is clear and has more protein than regular broth. (I am not in MO, but my mom is from the Bootheel.)
