Help! 10 weeks out and I stopped losing!

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was not given calories to follow but nutrition goals to reach. (90 or more grams of Protein and 90 ounces of liquid) I worry about calories now that I'm walking 5 miles a day and swimming or bowling as well through the week. I'm afraid I'm not eating enough but I feel better if I take my Vitamins and reach my gram goals. So the calories don't matter as much to me. Some days I burn 1000 calories and may only eat 900. I don't know if that's good or bad. Thoughts? I think if you are exercising intensely you need more calories. Your body is going to resist letting go of any weight if you aren't eating enough to support your basic metabolism let alone intense exercise. You need a deficit but not an extreme deficit. You need lots of protein, lots of Water as well as good fats and some good carbs.

But if I remember correctly you had a lower protein goal.

    Conflicting info!

If you are working out then 900 calories seems really low.

Coffee Controversy: to Drink or Not to Drink

Fortunately, I am not now, nor have I ever been a coffee drinker. One less monkey on my back.

    Plateau at half way mark

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight you will experience falls. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids (what is your protein target?). Avoid added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise. Stay off the scale. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall.

    Progress

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. Everyone experiences stalls and just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. Stay off the scale. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall.

New someone to tell me this is okay.

None of us lose weight at a constant or steady rate. Right after surgery you are swollen, healing, and full of fluids from the IV. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a lot of weight you will experience periodic stalls. Just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery.

    Do you ever miss.....

I've had many nice dinners. No margarita's when eating at a Mexican restaurant, but I haven't missed them.

    Beyond Frustrated

I had delays due to financing issues. Although the process took longer than I had hoped, everything worked out great in the end. I believe I had the surgery when it was supposed to happen. I know it is frustrating. The key to getting through the preop phase is to practice polite persistence and patience. It will be with it.

Need bariatric vitamin suggestions- HELP NEEDED

I liked the Bariaric Advantage calcium chews. Other than d+k dots, none of the other vitamins I take are specifically bariatric. My multivitamin is basically a centrum (or generic version).

    Headache 4months post op

Glad to hear it isn't more serious. How is your sleep? I am more prone to headaches when I don't get enough sleep.

    What to consume preop

I think it depends on what your pre-op diet is. Mine was basically Atkin's phase 1 so lots of high protein foods: turkey, cheese, etc

    Protein shots?

If you mean premier you can get them at Walmart, Sam's club, costco, etc. I have seen them at some drugstores, too. I've ordered premier from drugstore.com, too.

Why are you trying to stay under 800 calories? That doesn't sound healthy at all. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Large boned. ..

This reminds me of a time in my fitness class in college. We measured our wrists to see what our frame size was and it turns out mine is small. I was overweight then (but not as much as I eventually became). There was a classmate who was also on the heavy side and she was angry/jealous because I have a small wrist. Talk about inanity: letting the size of someone else's wrist dictate our emotions is just crazy.

Yes, I use it. My NUT was the one who introduced me to PB2.

I guess it depends on what your expectations for small are. I am 5'6" and have a friend who is 5'8". She used to bemoan the fact that she would never be able to shop at a petite store like another friend. I told her that unless she chopped her legs off at the knees no matter how much weight she lost she would never shop in a petite a store. We all have such messed up body expectations for ourselves and for other people.

    First solid food after surgery?

I had grilled salmon at a cookout. It was delicious.
  21. Protein is critical for healing and weight loss. The sooner you can reach your protein target the better you will feel. Keep sipping. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  22. How are you getting your Protein? We can go a long time without food but not without nutrition. Water is critical but so is protein. Are you supplementing with Protein shakes? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements?

    Conflicting info!

Rather than focus on calories I focus on protein. You mentioned in a follow-up post that you are only getting 60 grams of protein. That seems low. So does 50 oz of water. My minimums are 100 grams protein and 64 oz Fluid. Try for AT LEAST 80 grams of protein (that is the minimum of what my surgeon recommends for women with a lower starting BMI, for those of us with a starting BMI of over 50 he recommends at least 100 grams). Calories

60-80 grams of Protein seems low along with your calories. What happens when you increase your protein. You also may need some healthy carbs. Are you eating vegetables?
