OAC Convention Scholarships Applications are Now Available!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
OK, I am either blind or the website didn't have the info I was looking for. Where and when is the conference? Since the scholarship is for a percentage of the total cost, what is the cost of the conference? -
Very sad news????

Congratulations! It will be worth it whatever you decide to learn as much as you can so you can make an informed decision Best of luck. -
I had an eating disorder therapist who was convinced almost all of our eating issues come down to se. I think there is a lot to that theory.

Food advice
Inner Surfer Girl replied to kdelrosso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How far out are you after surgery? What post-op food stage are you on? You don't have to eat "breakfast" food for breakfast. You could eat anything. Heat up leftovers, refried Beans. Soup, chili, etc. if you want something warm. You could also have tea, Protein hot chocolate, etc. -
New to website have some questions
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Lisa16's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You probably won't feel 100% right away. Do your best to get in all of your protein and fluids and take your vitamins when instructed. All of these will help you to get your energy back as you heal. -
19 days post op , frustrated
Inner Surfer Girl replied to scottyg143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that you need to talk to your doctor. Also, you really need to be getting in ALL of your Protein and fluids by now. Not getting enough of either is probably a major contributor for how bad you are feeling. You need both to heal. -
1 Year Post Op Depression
Inner Surfer Girl replied to FindingSassy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I agree with @CowgirlJane. I swim at our local wellness center that has a rehab component. There are so many people with a range of physical limitations who are able to exercise with a rehab therapist. I especially recommend you look into some Water exercise. It is very easy on the joints. -
I just saw "All of Me"
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Pinkgirl1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This sounds familiar, is it new? I remember seeing Zsalynn in something like this after seeing her on My 600 Pound Life and it explained so much. Apparently, she and some of the other early My 600 Pound Life folks were really involved in the Fat Acceptance/Fat Fetish world. I found it very sad and disturbing. -
Do You Log Your Food?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, I log it using MyFitnessPal religiously. It's the only way I know where I stand on my Protein target. The ironic part is that recording my food has always been the biggest mental block for me. I am sure it goes back to when I started Weight Watchers as an adolescent and my dad insisted I keep my food diary on the refrigerator so he could see it. After years of therapy and the ease (and privacy) of using an app, I am now a fan of recording my food. I've even shown the app to some folks who haven't had WLS because I find it so helpful. -
What can I do with...cauliflower?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
My roasted cauliflower turned out great. I added a bit of grated Romano cheese at the end. My apartment doesn't smell so good but it was delicious. -
I broke through the 400 mark this past week!

Big Clothes - Must turn the corner now!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to fly-high's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This is a great idea. Just an FYI from my experience volunteering at a thrift store, many of these type of organizations may help their clients obtain clothes from thrift stores. They may give them vouchers or acquire clothes from thrift stores. I think you can feel confident that wherever you donate the clothes, they will help someone either directly or indirectly. -

Post-Op Exercise Plans?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to prettyCali916's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery in April of 2015 but wanted to wish you all the best of luck with your surgery and recovery. Immediately after surgery I walked. Once I was cleared to get in the pool almost all of my exercise is in the Water. We have a pool at home so I spent the summer in our pool. When it turned too cold to swim outside I joined our local wellness center. I got a discount on membership because I got a referral from my PCP. If you have knee or joint issues, swimming and water exercise is a great way to get a good workout. -
Someone asked what movie I was watching on TCM. One of the TCM movies I watched was THE YOUNG IN HEART (1938) with Janet Gaynor, Paulette Goddard, and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. It was about a family of love able but hapless swindlers who are taken in my a rich old lady ironically named Miss Fortune. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0031002/ It was pretty good and entertaining. Another was with Paul Lukas. I think it was called ADDRESS UNKNOWN (1944) [i am doing that from memory and could be wrong] about a German man who lives in San Francisco who returns to Germany with his family in the 1930s. I discovered a box of Bariwise oatmeal in my stash and have been drinking my way through my tea stash trying some flavors I hadn't even opened before this weekend. With all the tea I have been over my Fluid target every day. I haven't been doing as much reading and writing as I had hoped but may finish Alison Bechtel's "Fun Home" today. I am participating in a 2016 reading challenge and this will be my graphic novel. It's stopped snowing but since I live on top of a hill may still be snowbound a little while longer. The neighbor tried to plow our driveway and got stuck. Stay safe and warm everyone.
