Exercise and Plateaus
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I found it reassuring. The way I read it, moderate, sane exercise is optimal: spending hours and hours in the gym isn't healthier. I keep seeing visions of those poor, tortured souls on The Biggest Loser futilely shaking those ropes for hours. -

Done. I loved your story. Keep us posted on how it turns out. -

Thanks! The first one was great. I missed the second one due to the snow but hopefully by next class I will have finished my homeworkers. -
Is there any hope?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Valentina's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I read both posts as the before and after your discovering his suicide. My heart aches for you (and him, too). No, not everyone is capable of providing the support you need, but some are. Even though he was not in a position to do so, there are many others (friends, family, and even strangers on the Internet) can. How are you doing this week by the way? -
A Significant Milestone
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
We are trying a couple of things. My first treatment my PT put my right leg (the smaller of the two) in this big boot-like contraption that massages the leg and then manually massaged my left one. Then she wrapped my left calf with foam and bandages for compression. I am supposed to wear the wraps until my next visit or they come off on their own. Then, we had snow days and bad weather so I couldn't go for a week. Right now we are trying for Monday, Wednesday, Friday appointments. It's interesting try to work a swim schedule around being wrapped and unwrapped. Even one treatment, in addition to keeping my feet elevated a lot while snowed in, really helped because by my second treatment I was able to get both legs in the boot/massagers and she wrapped both calves. We are experimenting to see what works but I am really happy with the results so far. I told her I will need to come see her Halloween if I want to dress up like a mummy! -
Embrace the Stall

I don't think there is a "normal". My observation is it's more cyclical for me. -

More evidence about our complex metabolism and stalls/plateaus. Here's why you exercise so much and still can't lose weight http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/28/health/weight-loss-exercise-plateau/index.html -
American Sleeved in Jordan!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Thruthick2thin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations, this is awesome! One thing I have noticed is that many people who have surgery in countries other than the US may not have as much pre- and post-op support. Do you have a NUT? What kind of education/support have you received? -

Good for you. Learning it ok to have leftovers, that it is ok to throw out said leftovers, or even to not keep leftovers was real progress for me. -
Fat Shaming Husband...so hurt

I am so glad that you are at least getting some counseling. Obviously, it is not a priority for him or he would find the time. He sounds like a very miserable man. I wish you all the best. Sending hugs and prayers. -
My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My thoughts on June: She was obviously not psychological ready for surgery although I see Dr. Now's concern about her not living another month and wanting to treat her physical symptoms right away. I am glad he made the point of how it is possible for obese people to be malnourished. I just don't see how they couldn't have her seeing a therapist that first month she was in the hospital. I just can't imagine how she would have ever passed a psych clearance without at least starting some therapy pre-op. I also think this is a great example of how both partners need extensive nutrition counseling and training. I am coming to the conclusion that spouses, partners, children, and other live-in "helpers" need a formal program to prep for surgery, including their own psych clearance. There seem to be so many codependent, and abusive relationships (from both directions) on this show. As well as just a lot of ignorance. Did anybody else think that June's girlfriend was a teenage boy in the shower scene? If June had been in the hospital 20 times, why has they not even brought up surgery? It seems that Dr. Now could have been brought in to consult. If her health concerns were anything other than obesity I am sure they would have considered all options. June's legs reminded me a lot of mine in the shape, fat distribution, and lymphedema. I saw a lot of myself in her mobility challenges. It was very sobering and made me very grateful for all the progress I have had so far. If my son was killed in the way her son was, therapy should have been one of the first tools I reached for. It breaks my heart how culturally and socially there are so many barriers to people seeking and accepting help. At the very least she could have benefitted from some serious pastoral counseling. Our mental health system is so broken in this country. I don't watch Skin Tight. -
Fat Shaming Husband...so hurt
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Bluesky1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Christian or not, this is just not acceptable: "I need to be on "His plan". And he is angry at me for gainig weight, and not being an obedient wife." You are a grown, adult, human being. No one "controls" you. If he can't lovingly support you, and accept that marriage is a partnership then he sounds like a lousy "husband". Coercion is not an expression of love. No, he doesn't have to buy you junk food. But, he also doesn't get to criticize and belittle you without serious repercussions to your marriage. That is abuse as far as I am concerned. There is a reason I'm not married... This crap certainly wouldn't fly with me. You deserve so much better. -

I agree with a lot of what has been posted. Talk to your sister. There is a difference between privacy and lying. She can respect your privacy and not lie. Not engaging in gossip is a good place to start. -
I haven't tried any yet but Zulily often has shale wear for sale on their site. If anyone needs a coupon/code let me know and I can PM you one.

Did you need blood?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Juhygtfrdsd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
To add, the only time I've heard of bleeding is if they nick an organ (like your liver or spleen), but still they can treat it then. -
Did you need blood?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Juhygtfrdsd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgeon brought up this issue in the pre-op class and laughed. His attitude was that he is a skilled surgeon with a room full of high-tech equipment and a full staff. Stopping bleeding is what they do. So, no, I didn't need blood. And, I have never heard anyone on these boards talk about needing it either. If in doubt, definitely talk to your surgeon about your fears, -

I agree. It may hurt or it may come back up but it won't stretch. The stretchy part of your stomach was removed.

The only prescription meds I was in post op was carafate, to avoid ulcer formation and pain meds. I thought Dr. now was stretching saying the "swelling" (aka stricture) was a result of not taking meds. Maybe he wasn't taking his PPI? -

On another note, my parents are very happily married but my dad thinks that the idea of Christian Mingles is hysterical. He always makes funny comments when the commercials come on TV. The commercials I find amusing are the ones for Farmers Only. -

This is such an enlightening thread. I don't date but may someday so it is interesting to hear about the current state of the process. I have known some very successful and happy couples who have met online and/or through online dating so that is encouraging. I was curious about the tacos so I googled it. Apparently, one of the dating websites actually suggests that people use taco in their profile name. Who knew? I saw this on fb today and it reminded me of this thread: Happy Hunting Everyone!
