Helpful items needed For After surgery.

I am glad @@PinkGirl mentioned a thermometer. I too had to get a thermometer. This was actually a good opportunity to stock up on some basics. If you don't have a good first aid kit, this would be a great time to get one or put one together.

    Struggling with forgiveness horse related

PS, To give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she wasn't able/capable to take care of your horse when you needed her to but is able to care for a rescue now. Even if she isn't I think it would be better that she said "no" to you than said "yes" but then neglected your horse. People and circumstances do change. Holding on to a resentment only hurts you.

    Struggling with forgiveness horse related

I am so sorry you have experienced this. It sounds to me like you have different values and expectations. Definitely look at how you define friendship. She sounds more like an acquaintance who felt free to take advantage of your kindness than a friend. I am squarely in the: "life is too short" and "it's not the quantity but the quality that counts" when it comes to relationships after all of my many years. A book I highly recommend is Melodie Beattie's "The Language of Letting Go". It was really helpful in helping me come to terms with how to let go of some pretty dysfunctional relationships.

    Stopped losing

It sounds like your NUT is right. You aren't eating enough to support your exercise. It concerns me when you say you aren't eating any carbs. You need some healthy carbs, especially if you are exercising intensely. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

Rather than going the baby/toddler route I just got small plates, bowls, cups, utensils Appetizer size dishes, desert plates, fruit bowls, appetizer spoons, sushi dishes and saki cups are all small and can be very nice. A food scale. Good measuring cups and spoons. Small food storage containers (this is where you can find some good things in the toddler/baby section). Pyrex has some good 4 oz lidded glass containers. Ziploc also has some good small containers. Decaf and herb tea. Water enhancers like: Mio drops, crystal light, etc. Heating pad if you don't already have one. liquid Tylenol.

There is a difference between preferring full figures and fat acceptance and some of the fetish behavior portrayed in the show. When someone allows themselves to be exploited by others or is forcibly exploited then it is a problem for me.

OK Ladies, kinda embarrasing question for you all

Why not just ask? Either ask your surgeon's office or ask when you go through your pre admission.

OK Ladies, kinda embarrasing question for you all

I didn't shave, wasn't shaved, and didn't have a catheter. I was given very detailed instructions about what to do to prep for surgery and this certainly wasn't mentioned.

    Yogurt....I need help!

I like Light and Fit Greek by Dannon. If you are unsure about what your program requires it is perfectly acceptable to give your NUT a call and ask.

    PBS Weight Loss Surgery Documentary

I saw this a while back and had some mixed reactions. I didn't really like the BBW/fetish aspects. Keep in mind that it was made several years ago (even before Zaslynn was on My 600 Pound Life), so surgery techniques, program requirements, and recommendations have changed over the last few years tremendously. Especially related to the lapband and sleeve. There are a couple of threads about this already. Try searching All of Me.

The group dynamics are an interesting angle. When a group of people bond over a particular thing, experience, or identifier, the group will change when that factor no longer applies unless they can find other things to connect them. Also, people's needs do change over time and groups either change, adapt, reform or become obsolete. It happens to all sorts of formal and informal groups and isn't necessarily bad or wrong. But, it is an interesting angle.

    Not So Supportive Support Group

A patient advocate SHOULD be able to handle a support group. Whether or not you return to that group, please consider letting them know about your experience. Maybe the advocate needs new training but that is the kind of feedback that may benefit others in the future.

    Not So Supportive Support Group

Was there a facilitator for the group or was it just a free-for-all? I find that in a support group it is critical to have either 1) a good facilitator or 2) a strong foundation of tradition and structure (like a 12-step meeting. If there was a facilitator it sounds like they weren't very effective. It sounds like a phone call to the coordinator for the support group to talk about your concerns might be a good idea. I am so sorry you had such a negative experience and didn't get the support you needed.

    Portion Control

I got two of these toddler containers at CVS yesterday. They are the perfect size for nuts. I divided up a 4 oz bag of pistachios between the compartments and it worked out great.

I have an awesome support team but I have also received some awesome advice, information, and inspiration from this site so it's a win-win.

    GP

    This is great news. Congratulations!
  20. I am sorry your surgery was delayed. My thoughts and prayers were with everyone who was scheduled for surgery during the storm. It must be aggravating and stressful. Have faith that it will happen when it will be the safest for you. I just wanted my surgeon to be well-rested, relaxed, and extremely focused when he performed my surgery.

I too thought it focused too much on the BBW angle as well. Most of us women with morbid obesity aren't anywhere near that lifestyle. It was. I was also turned off by its focus on this specific fetish community. But, it did shed light on Zsalynn's struggles. This aspect of her experience was completely ignored by My 600 Pound Life. We only got to see what a jerk her husband was, not why.

I just saw "All of Me"

I saw this movie a while ago but if I remember correctly these surgeries were performed quite a long time ago. It seems that education, support, and surgical techniques have improved a great deal in even the last five years from my observation. It has been interesting to see changes in policy and practice of insurance companies and surgeon's on just the time I have been participating on BariatricPal, especially compared to information I had about surgery even 5 years ago.

That is quite alright. Glad to hear you have support. That is one thing I think is critical but not everyone has. I assume you have a Protein target (mine is 100 grams) and a Fluid target of at least 64 oz.?
