How much time do I need?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to socialworker91's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. I think you will be fine. Just make sure you let your surgeon know since it sounds like you will be out of the country when it's time for your six month follow-up. -
I like Palmer's cocoa Butter and Palmer's cocoa oil.

26M two weeks preop!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bigguy928's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome and best of luck with your surgery. One thing that I think really helped me was that I made my mind up going in to do everything I was asked to do even if I thought I couldn't. Keep us posted on how you are doing. -
So is sip, sip, sip forever?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to WannabeH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I don't know if gulping will ever be a great idea but you will be able to drink as the swelling goes down. -
Food & Social Life after surgery
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Rvamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the opposite. My family members were all on board and I was the one who initially objected to the idea of surgery. Once I learned more about it the more open to the idea I became. I was definitely one of those people who had tried EVERYTHING for years and just figured that WLS wouldn't work for me either. If your father lives near you and is able, see if he will go to an information session or to some of your appointments with you. My surgeon gave us some online tutorials and we were encouraged to share them with our family if they were interested. I think that most people who object do so because: 1) they really don't know much about the disease of obesity and/or weight loss surgery in general; and/or, 2) are really scared for you. Education will help with all of this. -
Halfway point - time for reflection

Congratulations! Sounds like you are doing great. I wouldn't worry too much about the stalls. They are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. -
Any April 2016 sleevers out there?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bluemangos's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved April 2015 so just wanted to wish you all the best. It's one of the best decisions I have ever made. -
Strained Green/fruit juices
Inner Surfer Girl replied to MozzaWehsha's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Juice isn't magic. You can get the same results from drinking enough fluid, eating clean and healthy food, taking your vitamins and supplements, and exercising. -
Why are you eating pasta, noodles, and bread? I encourage you to talk to your NUT about your issues.

Eating so much
Inner Surfer Girl replied to confusedgirl18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How far post-op are you? Are you tracking, weighing, and measuring your food? Are you planning your meals and Snacks? Are you not bringing high-carb and starchy foods into the house? Have you talked to your NUT about your difficulties? Try going back to basics. Follow your program. Focus on eating Protein first and avoiding starches and added sugars. Eat slowly, take small bites, and chew thoroughly. Get in ALL of your protein and AT LEAST 64 oz of Fluid or more a day. Take your Vitamins and supplements as required. Exercise. -
Your favorite scale?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Ruth1ess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a basic digital scale that works fine now. I bought it when I was at my highest weight because it was one that was supposed to work at that weight. It really didn't start giving me an accurate reading until I lost some weight so early out I only weighed at the doctors office. That was the best thing that could have happened for me because it kept me from obsessing about the scale. I am saying all that to encourage you NOT to weigh often or drive yourself crazy. You might want to even consider not buying one for a while to see how it goes. IF I bought a new scale today, since my weight is lower, I might consider going with one that synchs with MyFitnessPal, but it really isn't required. I also would look at one that also shows body fat. But, since I have access to that at my surgeon's office and my wellness center it isn't critical that I have one. -
Any sleevers start at or close to 500lb?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bigjim1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good for you. The best advice I can give you if you want to stay sane is just to stay off the scale. Early out I only weighed at my doctors appointments. It made for a peaceful recovery. -
QUESTIONS!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to NatashaSaysRawr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1-what is a chicken broth diet? I didn't have chicken broth so am not sure why you are drinking something you don't like. Are you referring to your pre-op diet? The clear phase? I haven't had any chicken broth and am doing fine. 2-Pureeing should be ok preop because texture doesn't matter except for when you are supposed to be on Clear liquids. 3-pre-op or post-op? I have snacks all the time. 4-My incisions healed in about four weeks when I was cleared to get in the pool. I still have scars. 5-For me, I find I "crave" more healthy foods. 6-again, are you talking pre-op or post-op? Post-op, it really depends on what phase you are on and where you go out to eat. Liquids: Soup is a good choice. Soft foods: soft fish, refried Beans, cottage cheese, etc. Sorry I don't have more explicit answers. A lot of these answers really depend on your specific program requirements and where you are in the process. Use your program materials and ask your NUT if you have questions about your specific requirements. Leading up to surgery and in the first month or so after surgery I didn't put anything in my mouth without double-checking my program manual. -
Any sleevers start at or close to 500lb?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bigjim1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree. And, I am still in shock about how quickly I blew through the 400s. I do a double-take every time I get on the scale and see that "3". -
Do you eat back your exercise calories?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to 24601's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That sounds like a great question for your NUT. -
How many calories should I be eating 7 month post op. I haven't lost in almost a month :(
Inner Surfer Girl replied to mariab3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is relative to your protein target. What is your protein target? Are you exercising? What does your NUT suggest related to calories? -
Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!

Do you eat back your exercise calories?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to 24601's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No, I don't eat back my exercise calories, but I do get in more calories than you. What is your Protein target? My protein target is 100 grams a day so there is no way I could eat healthy with only 700 or 800 calories. -

I started out well over 500 pounds and was sleeved last April 20. I couldn't be happier with my surgery, recovery, and progress so far. -
Kale salad more calories than double burger?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Jack's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just because it is a salad doesn't mean it's healthy, anymore than labeling something "natural" doesn't mean it's safe. And, as someone on another thread noted, just because you put it in a bowl and call it salad doesn't make it a salad. -
NO. If this is something you are considering doing then I recommend you talk about why you feel the need to do this with a counselor or therapist.
