    Trying not to be angry

I am so sorry you are experiencing this. You have received some great encouragement and advice on this site. One thing I want to add is that is perfectly acceptable to feel anger and be angry when you are treated badly or unfairly. For me, my obesity is partly due to trying to avoid feeling my feelings. Learning how to feel emotions and feelings and deal with them in a healthy way is a big part of this journey for me.

Calling all fitness buffs! Newbie here....

My surgeon based the protein goal on starting/highest weight, and no, it doesn't change (at least downward). I may need MORE protein for specific reasons (like building muscle mass) but not less. So, as I lose weight, I still have the same protein target I started with. My surgeon's guidelines: Women with a starting BMI under 50, 80 grams. All men, and women with a starting BMI 50 or over, 100 grams.

    How to help my daughter

I do ask her about activities and gently encourage her to keep up with them. Funny you mentioned a color run. There's one that will be about 6 mos. out from my surgery. I already asked my husband if he'd do it with me and was thinking about asking my daughter. I honestly think if she found something active, the problem I see on the horizon will be gone. I hope to do a color run (or walk!) this year. My sister's best friend started a benefit color run after the death of her daughter so I have been wanting to do it since the first one. I hope to be able to participate this year.
  4. This is a little woo woo, but there are some really good insights in this article: http://www.elephantjournal.com/2015/11/running-on-empty-7-tools-to-heal-emotional-exhaustion/ Whether you are preparing for or recovering from surgery, you may experience emotional exhaustion. What tools do you find useful? Would you add anything?

I would love to hear what she says. My understanding is that the Protein goal is for life. I don't know why age or whether you were banded or had the sleeve would make a difference. It might for RNY since they may not absorb everything they consume but I don't know enough to be sure. I do know that protein is critical for: healing, weight loss, muscles, skin, hair, organs, etc. and for letting your brain know that your body isn't starving so you feel satisfied.

    Stall at 9 days out

None of us lose weight at a constant or steady rate. There is no guarantee that you will see a change in the scale every day. That is neither healthy nor realistic. Everyone stalls, and almost everyone experiences their first "stall" about three weeks after surgery. One day of no change on the scale is not a stall. If you intend to lose a lot of weight then stalling is a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. Just follow your program. Track your food. Get in all of your Protein and Fluid, every day. Avoid starches and added sugar. Take your Vitamins and supplements as instructed. Exercise when cleared. And stay off the scale. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

My Story, Post Op 6 years

Welcome to the site and thank you so much for sharing your story. I am really impressed you used "gruntled" in a sentence, that doesn't happen very often! I am so sorry you have had to deal with some much life stress but am glad you are dealing with your transfer addictions. Unfortunately, unless we deal with our underlying eating issues it is all to easy to transfer to other things like: alcohol, gambling (day trading), etc. I hope you have found s good therapist and/or recover program Glad to hear you like your Fitbit. I have started a misfit shine because I swim and really like it. Again, welcome to this site. I hope you stick around and share the benefit of your experience.

65 grams of protein is extremely low, especially if you aren't even reaching that amount every day. Please talk to a good NUT.
  9. I am so sorry. Sending hugs. Now is the time to focus on your health and recovery. Marshall all of your resources to focus on you and your recovery. Do you have family and friends close by? Do you have a therapist?

To add: how do you get in all of your Protein? What is your protein target? Mine is 100 grams a day, with meals of no more than 25-30 grams of protein (and usually less) that means I have to eat at the very least 4 times a day.

Calling all fitness buffs! Newbie here....

I saw a previous post of yours where you were talking about only eating a couple of meals a day, Nutrition is so important. I can't stress enough that you can work out all day, every day, but it won't matter if you don't get adequate nutrition. Please talk to a good NUT. You just may have to suck it up and eat even if you aren't hungry. The bottom line: if what you are doing isn't working for you then you need to do something else.

    Veggies and VSG

I really thought raw veggies would need to wait longer. Of course it's different for everyone, but 3 months sling so bad. Thanks very much. If the Protein Powder that you add to cauliflower flavorless? I'm having a hard time envisioning it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App V8 sounds genius, I didn't think of that! Have you ever used it in purees? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App I haven't because I didn't have a purée stage, but I am sure you can.

Post-op Day 3 - so much gas build up in chest!

You can do this. You are stronger than you know. I was sleeved April 20 and couldn't be happier. To use a cliche, the only regret I have is not doing it sooner. You are absolutely right that the biggest obstacle to our success, but also the biggest asset to our success is the organ that wasn't operated on: our brain. Just keep reminding your self that this is temporary and the only way you will heal is to go through it. Focus on walking/moving, sipping, and rest.

Post-op Day 3 - so much gas build up in chest!

I am so sorry you are experiencing this. For me, gas was the worst part of the experience. I don't remember how long it took but walking really is the most effective way to alleviate it. Also, try raising your hands over your head. A hot pad was helpful for me, too, especially on my shoulder. Believe it or not, this will be a distant memory soon. Just keep sipping and walking!

Seriously? Why aren't you eating? Have you talked to your NUT lately? What do your Vitamin level's say? Eating two meals a day is not healthy period, but especially if you are trying to lose weight, workout, and function. Please talk with your NUT about what a healthy food plan looks like.

    Veggies and VSG

I drank V8 occasionally as soon as my full liquid stage. I started soft vegetables, like green Beans with my soft stage.

    Tired

I agree. Check with your PCP for blood work, etc. Also, to ask an obvious question: how is your sleep? Are you getting enough restful sleep at night?

    Worried Almost New Sleever!

I haven't experienced any noticeable hair loss but I cut my hair short not long after surgery and love it. No GERD. I may have experienced dumping once but generally, Sleevers don't usually have that problem, especially once our stomachs have healed. The key for me is to focus on following my program, getting in all of my Protein and Fluid every day, taking my Vitamins and supplements as directed, avoiding starches and added sugars, eating mindfully, and exercising.

How to avoid awkwardness during group meals?

It's perfectly acceptable to make a specific request. Talk to the person making the meal or catering it and explain what you need. You can always blame it on your doctor without being specific. If you were vegetarian, or lactose intolerant, or allergic to peanuts, or something similar it would be expected to let the person preparing and/or providing the meal know about any dietary restrictions. Just politely let them know what you need. If they can't accommodate your request then you have the option to bring something you can eat.

    Big Decision to Make

Based on my experience, food-wise, by 7-9 weeks I was out of the liquid/soft phases and cleared to try most (if not all) foods. Personally, Intake the no alcohol rule vey seriously. Even if you are someone who doesn't, 7-9 weeks post-op would be way to early. You are still healing. As long as you are able to get in all of your Protein and fluids then you should be fine. The challenge will be not getting behind, especially with your fluids. But, you are going to have to do that whether you are on a cruise or not. As long as you don't have any complications, or have any other issues, I would think you would be fine. By that time your incisions should be healed so you will be able to swim, etc. Just to be safe, be sure to let your surgeon know of your plans. Also, take his contact info so that if you did wind up in a hospital, you can loop him in on what is going on. Whenever you decide to go, I hope you have a wonderful time!

GP says to do Weight Watchers instead

I am so sorry this was the response you got. Definitely let your insurance company know about your experience. Did they just refer her because she was in network? I don't know if they rate providers but this seems like important information to know for patients -- whether not she is even open to the idea of working with weight loss surgery patients.

Some of the advice is related to the fact that when their profile says "I am cheap and easy." and their profile picture makes them look like street-walkers, they seem to be completely shocked that only creeps show any interest.

Still struggling but hanging in there.

I apologize for jumping into the twenties forum, but I just wanted to extend my support. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments: surgery, weight loss, and making it this far toward your degree. The time right before graduation is going to be exciting, challenging, scary, stressful, etc. Any major life change good or bad can be extremely stressful. Since you recognize that some of your challenges stem from depression, body image, etc. may I suggest you do make an appointment to talk with someone at your college counseling center. They can be a great resource for students and can also refer you to community resources when appropriate. I also recommend you make an appointment with a career counselor. Many colleges have excellent career resources to help you with your transition through graduation: whether you are looking for a job or plan to continue your studies. In addition, you may find a bariatric or recovery support group (like OA) helpful. If you know you feel better when you exercise but aren't doing so, try making a date with a friend or two to go for a walk, or do something fun like roller skating. Best of luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.
  24. I know from experience dieting pre-op and from post-op experience that when I start losing a lot of weight fast my hormones go wacky. My understanding it is because of the fast release of all the hormones that are stored in our fat. You should stabilize but definitely talk to your doctor or psychologist if you are having trouble managing. It is so good to hear that you are taking care of your emotional and mental health. I'd love to hear more about the classes you are taking.

    Love at First Swipe

I don't know. I usually DVR it on Friday after SAY YES TO THE DRESS, ATLANTA. and LOVE, LUST OR RUN, that really has some doozies. Both LOVE, LUST OR RUN and LOVE AT FIRST SWIPE seem to wind up with people with some pretty extreme self esteem issues.
