  1. There you go! An alien goes on the road trip with her. Did you ever see John Sayles' "Brother from Another Planet"? For some reason that just came to mind.
  2. Sounds like a great solution. I am see it now, your novel will be a piqueresque tale of a woman, with a vaguely Welsh accent, who discovers herself by weighing herself at roadside attractions, samples exotic truck stop Protein, and meets quirky locals of all sizes as she travels solo across America! Can't wait to read it!

    Need advice and encouragement!

My surgeon's protein guidelines were: 100 grams a day for all men, and anyone who started with a BMI of 50 or higher. Otherwise, it was 80 grams a day.
  4. Maybe it was because you were getting more nutrition. You CAN get enough nutrition within your food phases, but you have to put in some effort. The phases are so your stomach can heal. Make sure you are getting in all of your Protein, fluids, and Vitamins and you will get your energy back.
  5. No, I didn't. But, when I had my first follow-up post-op nutrition class, I noticed that everyone who was following the program were doing well and feeling great and everyone who had "cheated" or advanced too quickly were miserable. I know it is anecdotal but it made an impression on me. Patience is a virtue and is for your benefit.

Congratulations on the weight loss and the perseverance! You mention calories several times, but nowhere do I see you mention protein. What is your protein target? Are you reaching it every day? I don't see a problem reducing your calories as long as you aren't also reducing your protein (which I think is a big mistake). Have you talked to your NUT about your goals and strategies for reaching those goals, especially now that you are exercising more?

    When will my energy return?

Of course you are tired, you are starving to death. You need to be getting at least twice as much protein as you are, DAILY. What is your protein target? Mine is 100 grams a day. As to the pain you are experiencing, you definitely need to talk to your surgeon. Are you chewing thoroughly and eating slowly? As to the wine and coffee, be careful with transfer addiction. Do you have a counselor or therapist you can talk to? Do you attend support group meetings?

    Blood Clots!

Your surgeon should be very aware of blood clot risks and how to mitigate them (if not get another surgeon). According to my surgeon, the two biggest risks from surgery are pneumonia and blood clots. Both can be life threatening. Just follow your surgeon's instructions which should include: walking, staying hydrated, taking the prescribed medication (whether shots or pills), using any devices prescribed (like leg pumps, incentive spirometer, etc.). If you aren't sure what to do, then ask your surgeon and healthcare team, and keep asking until you understand.

    BariatricPal Site and App Update

I agree about more profile info on the app I almost always use the app. I would also like to be able to update weight and post and read status updates on the app. Is there also a way we could have one place with information for newbies (read this first), with info about etiquette, how to post, guidelines, and faqs? I generally read by going to my timeline and scrolling down. The search function is hit or miss. Sometimes I can find what I am looking for. I noticed that you can tag posts on the web version but not on the app version.
  10. What are you eating? Are you getting in all of your Protein? Are you getting in at least 64 oz of Fluid a day, plus more since you are exercising intensely? Are you eating good carbs? Are you still taking all of your Vitamins and supplements as instructed? I agree you may not be eating enough to support your exercise but really don't know without more details. The best advice I can give you is to make an appointment with your NUT to talk about your goals and your challenges. Best of luck.

    My story - my struggle

I agree. You may just have to agree to disagree with your mother. Your children sound so sweet. Every time they express a wish about what they want you to do when you are able then write it down and do it! That sounds like it would make the most motivating reward list ever. You could even make a collage of you doing those things with your kids. Best of luck with your surgery and keep us posted on how you are doing.
  12. I love your binder! I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your practice should have a min insurance coordinator who may be familiar with your requirements or be able to find out for you. Best of luck!

    What Y'all Think-V

No, I don't think I have ever been aware of being singled out like that. I do know that food service people, fast food people are required to upsell people. Would you like fries with that? Would you like to make it a meal with a drink and chips? and my all time favorite is when I used to order a Diet Coke and a salad and they would ask, would you like a hot apple pie with that? By the way, where was your Protein? When I have eaten at someplace like Subway, I just get the insides of the sandwich. I usually go for the tuna salad and cheese in a cup and then get them to load up on toppings in a cup.
  14. P.S., you might actually like it!
  15. The Water is great exercise! You'll make it.

    WLS and MS

I met someone today whose mom had MS and WLS about 10 years ago. He said that the weight loss really made a difference for her. Thought I'd pass that along. It sounds really encouraging.

    Am I losing quickly enough?

There is no normal. It sounds like you are doing great as far as I can tell. Are you following your program? Are you getting in all of your Protein in every day? Are you getting at least 64 oz of Fluid every day? Your NUT is a great resource for talking about your goals and the best way to reach those goals, Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    First appointment

Congratulations! Welcome to the beginning of the rest of your life.
  20. I went in for the sleeve and came out with a sleeve, but we all have to sign that release unless we want the surgeon to just close you up and do nothing if he or she finds that they can't do the surgery that is planned. I have seen it happen at least once on My 600 Pound Life. It happened recently with a guy who went in for bypass. If I remember correctly because of the fat and shape of his abdomen Dr. Now wouldn't have been able to get the connection to the shortened intestine to connect so he wound up doing a sleeve. I also seem to recall seeing where someone has too much scar tissue from previous surgeries, so hectored on cleaning up the scar tissue and then waited until that healed before completing the surgery. I thought of it like when I get the engine on my car worked on: they really don't know what they are going to find until they actually go into the engine.

    Ten days post op...help!

I liked the ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, Syntrax Nectars (especially fuzzy navel), GNC lean shake 25 (orange cream is my favorite), as well as ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil soups, and v8 for something savory.

    VERY FIRST APPOINTMENT/WHAT TO TAKE/EXPECT

It sounds like you are prepared. In addition to your book, just take: A pen and paper to take notes (although they will probably have them available). An open mind. A willingness to ask lots of questions. If you don't understand something, ask until you do. In addition, be prepared to practice patience and persistence. Best of luck!

    Foamy protein shakes

What happens if you let it sit for a while? Try making a batch ahead and putting it in the refrigerator.
