    Anyone from KY?

Do you mean hiccups post-op? Eating slowly, taking small bites, chewing thoroughly, waiting between bites, will help avoid hiccups.

    Work Out Routine!

I think everyone is different and it is important to start with where you are. To be fit, my understanding is that : aerobic capacity, strength, endurance, balance, and flexibility are all important. (I am not an expert so may be leaving something out). For me, I prefer Water exercise: swimming laps, water aerobics, water weights, and stretching. It might be a good idea to talk with a trainer or other fitness professional for an assessment of where you are and to talk about your goals.

    Boost/Carnation Instant Breakfast

All three practices are bariatric centers of excellence. I'm surprised that there seems to be such a difference in nutritional philosophy between the 2 programs I'm choosing between. I feel like we all got to this point of seeking surgery due to overeating overprocessed foods, so it is strange to me that that is what this practice is promoting as the best source of nutrition during the first critical phase of healing and weight loss. I told the nurse that I often make smoothies from kale, berries, seeds, nuts, a banana and some juice or soy milk, and that I was wondering if I could do something like that instead of the Boost or Carnation Instant Breakfast. Her response was that while that "sounds healthy" it wouldn't get me enough nutrients, especially protein, during the first few weeks. To me, this sounds like they are taking an extremely reductionist approach to nutrition. I could see if she said I would need to make sure I was adding enough nuts and seeds to my smoothies to get enough protein. Or if she said that I would need to add a scoop of protein powder. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App I agree with your NUT. Your smoothies sound like they are full of sugar with very little protein. Protein is critical for healing and weight loss. Right after surgery, while you are still healing, you won't be able to do nuts or seeds for quite a while. Bananas are high in sugar. You can do whole, clean foods eventually, but early after surgery you are going to almost have to use some sort of protein supplement.

    Daily protein

What protein target were you given? Mine is 100 grams: it doesn't matter if it is liquid phase the day after surgery or real food. My protein target is always 100 grams.
  5. I made a decision early out not to share numbers with people (even my mother) so they wouldn't keep asking for updates like your Grandmother. When asked how much I have lost, I just say "a lot". If they press, I can truthfully say I don't share that number. I don't even share it with my mother.

There is a no sugar added version.

BMI of 21 getting gastric sleeve... thoughts?

I would agree that counseling through your school may not be enough, but it is a good place to start, especially if you need help finding someone who specializes in eating disorders. I would think most college counselors would have a line on the resources available to you in your area.

    Boost/Carnation Instant Breakfast

Boost was not on our list of allowed Protein supplements as far as I remember but carnation breakfast essentials no sugar added was one option. We had a whole list of approved options. Carnation breakfast essentials no sugar added is a good alternative for someone who is on a budget in my opinion. Of course, I haven't done a cost/benefit analysis or comparison to other options. To me it is a fairly readily available and palatable option for some people. Another supplement option is to add dried milk to milk to increase the protein content. It was also allowed on my program but I never tried it. I highly recommend that if you are searching for a program, that you look for a Bariatric Center of Excellence.

    Ate fast food....

Arby's has turkey, too. I like the turkey gyro without the pita (and sometimes with). If you are on soft mechanical then soft meats like turkey might work.

    Ate fast food....

In answer to your initial question: Soft fast food is something like refried Beans from Taco Bell.

If possible, see if she can go to your pre-op appointments and classes with you. The more she learns about/and knows the less likely she will worry.

BMI of 21 getting gastric sleeve... thoughts?

Do you have a good therapist? Have you talked this through with a professional who works with people with eating disorders? to be honest i went through therapy couple years back but it did not help. I have not talked this through with a professional who specifically deals with eating disorders. but trust me, i did EVERYTHING that i could think of doing to try to solve my eating problem with no avail. Saying that the vsg is my choice of last resort is an understatement. I am going to have to disagree with you. If you had done everything you would still be seeing a therapist. You can't just give up after a few sessions. I think what you may not be understanding from the feedback you are getting is how much you have to work and how focused and dedicated to changing your relationship with food you need to be after surgery. Surgery will not cure you of what drives you to binge. It is a tool, not a magic wand. I highly recommend you find a good therapist and consider attending support groups. You may find help with Overeaters Anonymous. You can find meeting lists and other resources like podcasts online at OA.org.

I don't know the answer to your specific question but wanted to recommend the misfit shine. I love mine and it is less expensive than a Fitbit.

Heck, if she is worried about housework, then hire a cleaning service. I am single and have found it very helpful to have someone come in and do some heavy cleaning once a month. The ladies who clean for me surprised me and came by and cleaned while I was in the hospital as a recovery gift! They have been some of my biggest cheerleaders!

    Dinnerware?

I went on a bit of a pre-op shopping spree for dishes. I have always loved dishes. I got some cool sushi plates and bowls, salad plates, appetizer plates, appetizer utensils, small food storage containers, etc.

    Stalled or plateau

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight you will experience periodic stalls. That said, it seems like your calories are really low. Your calories should be relative to your Protein target. You don't even mention your protein. What is your protein target? Are you getting at least that much protein every day? Are you getting at least 64 oz of Fluid a day? Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

When can i start soft food

You can start soft foods when your surgeon allows you to have soft foods. In your case, that would be two weeks. My week one was Clear Liquids. Week two was full liquids. Week three was soft foods and week four was soft mechanical, etc.

BMI of 21 getting gastric sleeve... thoughts?

You are 5'4", 108 pounds, have an eating disorder and you want to be sleeved? I'm going to exit quietly. no, I'm 5'4" and I'm 125 pounds. My goal weight would be like 110, which isn't underweight. No one should ever have surgery to lose 15 pounds. I truly hope you have a good therapist. As others have noted, surgery is not a solution for an eating disorder.

    Underage (17) and bariatric?

Even if your surgeon requires you to be 18 you could start the process now. You will be 18. I know for someone your age, 6 months or even a year can SEEM like an eternity. But, it will take time to prepare mentally and physically for surgery. The pre-op requirements are designed to make sure you are prepared and to put you on the best position for a safe and successful surgery.
  25. My doc didn't give me a guideline for calories but I'm not getting more than 600-700. Fluid is suppose to be 64oz. But I'm probably getting 40oz. I've never drank much. Before surgery and as long as I can remember I would go every other morning and get me an unsweet 42oz peach mango tea from the station and that lasts me all of 2 days. My husband says I'm a camel. Now I try harder to drink and only Water tastes good to me now so I'm drinking what I use to drink in 2 days, in one. My docs protein goal for me is 64oz. Which I take 30g of GENEPRO twice daily and then count on my diet to get the other 4 grams. So I'm sure I'm exceeding my protein goals. Thank you for the encouraging words. I have never been one to need them and constantly need validation but this has been a trying time for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Your protein, fluids, and calories all seem very low. What does your NUT advise?
