  1. I wasn't aware that we are using slurs like "retard" around here. Frankly, I find this very offensive. I normally would not respond to such ignorance, but today I am fed up with this kind of insensitivity. Please, please, I hope we all consider more carefully the words we choose to use in these forums. Quote edited by LipstickLady. Seeing the slur was making my blood boil.
  2. One thing I did early out that helped was to only weigh at doctor's appointments. Staying off the scale is a great way to help focus on following your program (which is what you can control) and not the numbers on the scale (which you cannot control). Calories

That sounds very low to me. Are you getting in all of your Protein? What is your protein target? Your calories are relative to your protein. Since my protein target is 100 grams, at 520 calories I wouldn't be eating anything but Protein shakes. Follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your protein and fluids, avoid added sugars, starches, and fried foods, and take your Vitamins and supplements as directed and your calories should fall into place. If in doubt, talk to your NUT. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  4. You can do it. Focus on what you CAN have instead of what you can't. You can do anything for a week!

    Scale Won't Budge!

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience stalls and slow downs and most of us experience a stall about three weeks after surgery, Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, exercise when cleared and stay off the scale. Introduction Post

Welcome! Glad to hear that you haven't given up. I think things happen when they are supposed to happen. It sounds like taking more time was a good idea. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
  10. I am finally getting to this thread. @@KindaFamiliar, you look great, even if you aren't smiling. I don't see your neck at all. What I want to know is how bad the ointment smells. I can't imagine it is pleasant. By the way, Kotex make great hot pads in a pinch --- the things you learn at summer camp.
  11. The good thing about holding a cute baby is no one notices anyone else in the picture!
  12. I haven't had any problems taking meds after surgery. As to your coronary heart disease, your cardiologist and bariatric surgeon would be the best resources for making sure you get the best care.
  13. This was the lead story on NPRs All Things Considered tonight. Interesting how a very small study, published in Obesity, that really doesn't tell us anything much that we don't already know (as far as I can tell) gets such a big media splash because of the reality TV connection.

    So Freakin Psyched!

    Congratulations! Yeah, you indeed.

    Negative Nancy

Wow. It sounds like you are really struggling. What does your surgeon suggest?

    Weight loss after sleeve

Please take a deep breath. You asked a question and got great answers. Please do not compare yourself to other people. You just had major surgery and are healing. You have lost weight, probably more than you would have on any diet, and your surgeon said you are doing fine. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience periodic stalls and you are due for your first stall. Almost everyone experiences their first stall about three weeks post-op. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise when cleared. You are doing great. Anyone else experience this?

If you are only eating 500-750 calories, then chances are pretty good that you will be hungry.

I've been stalled for 1 month - 5 months post op.

It wouldn't hurt to mix up your exercise. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Frustrated and confused :(

I personally think Ensure is not a good choice. Look at the label. How much protein and how much sugar? You may be very surprised. Have you tried Premier Protein?

    Lost 100 pounds!

Why do so many people stall? Is this only with the Sleeve? Were you pretty active pre-op? I can't even imagine running to my car much less a mile. lol It's common with any type of weight loss. Not even unique to surgery. When I lost 90 pounds "on my own" back in 2010, I had lots of stalls along the way. Your body isn't a simple machine. It is constantly trying to adjust and adapt to everything that happens to it. Rapid weight loss is very traumatic to your body and the instinct is to try to stop the weight loss for fear of starvation. There are a whole bunch of different reactions and systems that kick in so your body can "defend" itself against whatever "attack" that is causing you to lose weight. I agree. Also, if you are losing a significant amount of weight your body has to physically rearrange, tear down, and rebuild itself. It has to rebalance fat stores, rewire blood vessels, and other systems, etc. This takes time and energy, too. One of the many reasons to keep your nutrition up (especially Protein and fluids), instead of arbitrarily restricting calories, or even giving up and bingeing when you stall. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
