I want to hear from others with a lower BMI pre-op
Stanhope replied to Midemali's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've learned not to go by weight. I had 60lbs to lose at my surgery date on 7/2. I'm now at 145 lbs, in a size 8. I did squeeze into some size 6 jeans yesterday but I think they are still too small - but not for long. I still want to lose the 15 lbs. I'm feeling comfortable at my weight now (I'm 5'1) but still a little big around the middle. Main problem now is the need to exercise - I'm very "jiggly" from the weight loss - need to get toned up! I'm worried about excessive skin now bc that won't go away. One day at a time!! -
No Bariatric benefits on Insurance? $4900 special
Stanhope replied to skinnytiff's topic in Insurance & Financing
many doctors do the "hernia repair" approach - this is how I had my surgery financed through True Results - also in Dallas (through Baylor Hospital). It is a good option for patients whose insurance excludes bariatric surgery, like mine did. -
I work at THR Presbyterian Plano and Baylor (BUMC) in Dallas. Anyone with upcoming surgeries there let me know and I'll gladly come by for support

CLEANED OUT CLOSET!
Stanhope replied to blondebomb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm getting ready to move at the end of the month. Was going to wait another 10 lbs to purchase new clothes but have found that 85% of my clothes are not only too big, they are WAY too big, especially the tops. I have gone from a 2x to a medium in 2 months! Crazy bc I was thinking the weight was coming off slowly, but I am shrinking somewhere I guess. Like most, I had closets and trunks full of clothing of all sizes. I have had to git rid of almost all of it. I broke down and went shopping bc I had to get some clothes to wear to work without looking like a hobo! It's nice to be able to buy clothes without great worry that "what if gain it all back". I feel much more confident that I won't need my plus sizes or "fat clothes" any more. They are gone!! -
JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP
Stanhope replied to SMED0308's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. I've lost about 4 lbs in 3 weeks. It seems crazy to be putting in so few calories and not lose any weight. I've got to get serious and back to the shakes, a more stringent routine. Being at work all day has made me skip too much. I know it's gotta end at some point, but after doing so well pre-op, this is frustrating - 3 weeks! -
Anyone start with a 35 BMI?
Stanhope replied to JenSul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad to hear the similar stories. Was starting to wonder if my journey was similar to anyone's. I'm 5'1 or 5'2 depending on the doctor - ha. My highest weight was 190. I lost 18lbs on my own prior to the surgery which was July 2. I started really trying before the post op diet so that took about 2 months (a little over). I'm now at 160 - 1/2 way to goal. That said, I have pretty much been on a stall for over 2 weeks. I was at 164 for 2 weeks and now hovering at 160. Am just getting over my PMS week so hopefully that will jump start a loss again. I have been very compliant with the diet as given by the doctor. -
Did you keep your surgery a secret?
Stanhope replied to MrsHegarty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It never dawned on me to keep it a secret. I've told everyone at home and at work. I had surgery 5 weeks ago and two people at work have asked me for referrals to my surgeon. I think I presented it in a manner that projected an "I'm very confident about this so don't think of judging the choice just be happy for me". Family expressed concern because it is a major surgery, but not judgment over the choice itself. Friends were the same. All were supportive, but I don't think I really gave them an option to be anything but otherwise -
Hello to everyone! I had my sleeve done on Wednesday (July 2nd) and feel like I have been extremely lucky. The first few hours coming out of anesthesia were nothing short of agonizing (and I've been through very painful cancer treatment) but then it subsided by the next day. I haven't had any nausea or pain that wasn't expected - still very sore of course - no gas pain in my arm or chest. I've had no pain or trouble getting fluids in. My main problem is desire. I'm drinking one large Isopure bottle per day to get the Protein in and then what I can to get more fluids - sometimes it's maybe 1-2 cups of tea. I'm walking a lot. Three times a day on a good walk outside with the dog. I am still taking the painkillers though pretty regularly because I can definitely tell when they are wearing off. My only "complaint" is that I have come down with a horrible case of bronchitis that has just knocked me out! Coughing really hurts - today it is turning farther upward and going into my head and sinuses also. I can barely talk. I used the spirometer but guess it didn't work. Did anyone else get a bronchitis? I came home with 9 extra pounds from the IVF so that is coming off slowly - I think by tomorrow it will be gone and I can see if I actually start to lose. I just feel horrible from the bronchitis. I guess I should count my lucky stars that I have been able to get the liquids down - but today I actually started feeling a little hungry. Anyway - was curious if anyone else had upper respiratory issues post-op? Advise for getting off the pain meds? I gotta drive on Wednesday so I have to stop them tomorrow.

Hello to all My surgery was on Wednesday (July 2nd) I live in the Oak Lawn area - I will check out the support group listings on this thread - As a social worker, I think mutual support is as essential as the surgery for long term success and think the doctors should actually emphasize it more than they do. Even though I feel ok physically (for now) I think it is wise for anyone that can get to get to a support group - including myself I'm glad to know there are groups in Dallas bc my doctor's/program's support group is in Ft Worth and I can't drive there from work to get there in time.

I had my surgery July 2nd. I've had surgery before, but the first 2 hours in the recovery room were agonizing. The most pain I've ever felt. Then it got better incredibly quickly, I haven't had any significant nausea or pain from the sleeve itself, just the surgical sites. I can drink as much as I want to, in pretty normal sized sips - my major challenge there is desire. I'm thirsty but have no hunger sensation at all. My biggest obstacle is that I now have bronchitis from the anesthesia. I am walking a lot and using the spirometer but I still got bronchitis which is awful because it hurts to cough, I came home with 8lbs (!!!) of extra Fluid to get rid of, and that is coming off slowly, so I am looking forward to actually losing after the IVF weight is gone. I am still taking the pain meds as I can tell when they are wearing off and it is still pretty sore. I'm going to take them 1-2 more days and then get even more active. broth last night tasted horrible so I'm sticking to my Isopure. I can get one of those down a day and then a little more with tea and Water. Because I haven't had any nausea, I was getting paranoid that somehow I imagined the sleeve was done. I'm sure I'll be laughing at that one pretty soon!
