October 2014 sleevers check in please!
Kathy812 replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Peekboo, thanks for asking. It's a slow process. I am NOT complaining per se, just slower than I thought it would be. If I'm honest I like my snacks too. Too much. I can't wait to see my surgeon next month because I'm concerned about how big my appetite is. I honestly can eat more than 1200 cal a day but I work hard to stay within that amount. I don't feel much restriction & I don't have any adverse reaction to most foods. In some ways that's a good thing but in other ways not so much. I think on FB you said you're going on vacation in May-right? good luck in reaching your goal. 20 pounds is a little optimistic for me. I average about 5 a month. -

@@Jennifer Rogers you look ahh mazing! ! I had my surgery around the same time (10/17) & I have not lost nearly as much as you! You are rockin your sleeve. You should be at goal in no time! -
@@pansy63 welcome! I took off 3 1/2 weeks and felt that was exactly what I needed. The first couple of weeks I was battling fatigue, some discomfort, Trying to getting all my fluids in, etc, basically, A LOT! But everyone recovers differently. Four weeks sounds perfect. I had a similar experience Recently, I walked into a dept. store to buy "reg size" clothes. I looked over at the plus size and felt strange but happy that I was no longer in that dept. & it hit me that I probably never will again!!! It's amazing & sad how many more choices the misses dept. has over plus size. Keep up the great work! ????

Thoughts after 2 years
Kathy812 replied to sharonintx's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for your honesty & glad you're able to keep the weight off two years later. Wishing you continued success. -
@@traveler60, first of all congrats on making it so close to your goal, in such a short time. You are rockin that sleeve! Now to answer your question, Honestly, I don't have that issue. To the contrary, I sometimes FEEL smaller than I really am! Lol. For example, I currently wear a size 14 but Carson's dept store had a great clearance rack and I bought 5 pants in a size 12 . I thought for sure I could fit them, ummm needless to say I can't....yet. They were between $8-$12 each so I'm ready whenever I get there,

@@getnfit52, I started at two months ( I may have been able to start sooner but I didn't inquire about taking it until my two month check-up). The biotin I take is very small. It's made by spring valley 5000mcg. I take one on the morning & one in the evening. I buy mine at Walmart.
-
@@MariaElena1983, my dr recommended the pill, 10,0000mcg. I don't know if a pill or chewable makes a big difference. Some people take biotin and still Lose hair. Doctors haven't figured out why some do & others don't. I believe in taking the pills, just in case it does help

Yay! Congratulations!

@@Comeflywithme, when did you start losing your hair? I assumed if we made it to six months w/no hair loss then we were safe ( can't tell you where I read that) but it sounds like you started losing after that-right?

Calories intake 3 months out of Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Kathy812 replied to tfarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@muzikgal21, I'm so with you on the calories. I would be starvation mode if I ate 500-700 cal. I eat approx 1100 calories a day & feel like I can eat more, so I have to definately practice restraint. I called my nutritionist the other day to confirm my calorie allowance. I was told I can have between 900-1100 cal a day. Myfitnesspal allows more calories when you workout, I had hoped I could use some of the allowance but she said no. Oh well. I am still losing, slowly. But,I don't regret the sugery at all. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I do wish though, that I had the restriction that others have. -

[quote name="IcanMakeit" Edited to add: I'm 61 years old and exercise only lightly. What do you consider lightly? I am currently working out 3 days a week, & honestly don't feel I can maintain more than that. I am always excited to hear that more mature women can make it to goal without a lot of work out. -
Has anyone else had a leak... Here is my story

Calories intake 3 months out of Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Kathy812 replied to tfarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four months out and my dr wants me between 900-1200, higher on the work out days. It was suggested no more than one protein drink a day. They prefer I get calories from food. I was typically around 900 calories and had stalled the last 3 weeks. I started tracking again this past week & upped my calories to 1100. I finally lost weight this week. Hard to wrap my brain around it. -
No drinking with meals
Kathy812 replied to IvyLeagueNP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surprisingly, it hasn't been bad for me. I drink about two cups of water before I eat and I do ok. Every once in a while I miss drinking, depending on the meal. I make sure to move my glass away or not have it on the table at all. Definately a challenge at times, but a small price to pay for the results. -

@@stephh, I I have an under active thyroid which unfortunately does not go away. It is an autoimmune disease & difficulty Losing weight is one of the unfortunate symptoms. Prior to surgery, my surgeon tested my metabolism. Thankfully, he confirmed that even though the weight loss may be slow, It is definately doable. By the way, thanks for the kind words & words of encouragement. -

Kathy812 replied to Marielbx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So, here's my update....Only down 50 pounds. I know, I shouldn't say only but it's relative. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely grateful for that. I kind of expected it because I have a thyroid condition, which I believe can contribute to a slower weight loss. I have had no issues, with the exception of rice. But everything else goes down fine. I Wish I had had this surgery 10 years ago! So lovin my sleeve. I'm currently working out only three days a week, I know there's that word "only" again but it's true.lol. I started at a size 20 & have recently purchased 2 size 14's , yay me!!! My personal goal is a size 8/10. -

Hypothroidism, has it limited your weight loss with sleeve?
Kathy812 replied to uni2424's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@txfirefly979@Bleachie, ladies, let me tell you. If you follow the program you WILL lose weight. As I said before, my loss is slower than some, I'm sure my thyroid condition plays a factor but my doctor is pleased with my progress. I have NEVER been able to lose more than 15lbs in the last 12 years. It was Very, very discouraging. I started at a size 20 & now I'm starting to fit in 14's (4 months ). I Still have a ways to go but I'm doing it! I wake up every morning & thank God, because I never thought it would happen. The first few weeks, possibly up to two months after the surgery will be an adjustment period, but hang in there. It is SO worth it!
