  1. Like you said, everyone is different. My husband stayed home a week . I'm a big baby & had a hard time giving myself the heparin shots. My dr. Required two weeks, twice a day injections. That was the hardest for me.

    Snacking

@@Pinkgirl1234, I thought that too. But I can tell you from reading this site for over a year, many people , including myself, have hunger pain that comes back-full force. It helps we have the restriction but it's so easy to snack every few hours. The key is to pick something healthy.....and that can be a battle.

    What's For Dinner?

Tomorrow we're having delicious chicken burgers on the grill from Mariano's(grocery store) you can pick it up at the the butchers counter. Having it with a salad. If you have a Mariano's near you, it's a must try. 1 burger last me two meals, so I bring the other half for lunch. Tonight we had porkchop on the grill & Brussel sprouts which we sauteed then simmered in a small amount of chicken broth. Yummo!

    Prayers needed please

@@nprcowboy, you have the right to be angry. I'm angry with you. I just said a prayer. Keeping positive thoughts & wishing her a full recovery. As others said, please keep us posted.
  5. @@NMJG, sorry, I forgot to ask my questions. How long did it take for you to get to your current weight? and How many days a week do you walk and for how long?
  6. @@NMJG, first of all congrats on being able to maintain your weight loss two years. I was searching this site, not really sure what I was looking for but reading your story was exactly what I needed. Your starting weight was almost identical to mine and your current weight is very close to my goal weight. So your story hit home for me. Like one of the other posters mentioned, I am about 10 months out and I am struggling. I've lost 1 pound a month for the last two months and I've been feeling very discouraged & frustrated. Truthfully, I am letting the carbs creep back in. So I will take your advice & watch the carbs. Sometimes even though we may know something , we just need to hear it. Thanks again

    Dumping How it feels like?

@@Justoperated, I have had mild cases of the dumping syndrome. Having the runs (loose stool) is a very common symptoms. However, I've only experienced the jitters & hot flashes. It last for few minutes, but then it goes away. I usually feel it when I eat something that's too sweet.

    BCBS IL H. M. O. To BCBS IL H. M. O.

I was going to post the same comment. A few years ago I switched coverage from my husbands employer to my employer(because mine was cheaper) same name, bcbs of Il. However, all things were not equal. I would recommend calling bcbs, maybe they can tell you.

    Calcium citrate

I get the orange flavor chewable from Celebrate, taste pretty good. Also the strawberry/pineapple flavor.
  10. I was on blood pressure & cholesterol meds. I stopped taking blood pressure medicine the day of my surgery. I was off my cholesterol medicine a month later. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic ( which is what solidified my reason to have the surgery) . Now my numbers are within the normal range and I plan to do my part to keep it that way. Lastly, I had plantar fasciitis and the pain has gone. Hopefully to never return. I'm hoping I get off the c-pap machine next, I have that appointment next month.
  11. Some people have mentioned the 5:2 program is a great way to restart weight loss when you've gained, a few vets have mentioned this. I don't know anything about it but you can google it or maybe search on this site to see if it's a viable option for you. Good luck!
  12. Wow, Sorry you have to go through all that , wishing you a speedy recovery. The good thing with wls, according to my doctor, weight loss can continue up to 18 months & beyond. Of course , not working out can slow down the process but you CAN continue losing. I've noticed that changing my calorie intake will trick my body (for lack of a better word) into weight loss. Sometimes by adding 100-200 extra calories has Increased my loss. I fluctuate my calories between 1,000-1200 (I'm 9 months out). Just stay faithful to the program (protein first). Btw, I'm going to be 52 this week, so I totally understand weight loss can be slower for us older people, but I keep reminding myself that this not a race!

    Zumba - first time

@AngelaWilliamsMD@@tianna615, I do Zumba at home. I bought the Zumba kit on Zumba.com & googled a coupon code ( it was cheaper then Amazon). However, I did go back on Amazon and bought another single dvd to add to my collection. In the kit there is a 20minute work out DV which is, great for beginners, but still challenging. You get to do it in the comfort of your home & do only what you can. @@tianna615, I only walked the first month (on my treadmill & in my neighborhood) . Month two, I did the "walk away the pounds" DVD, with Leslie Sansone. Loved it! And still do. Great way to work to the next level. Month three, my exercise physiologist gave the green light for Zumba. He wanted me to take a few months to recover. Please try it guys (w/ doctors clearance of course ) and welcome to the new you. With that said, you should try something NEW. Best wishes in your journey.

    Zumba - first time

@@slvrsax, I adore Zumba but have the same issues with vertigo! I Thought it was just me but it's interesting to read that wls could be the cause ( one of the many reasons I love this forum). Also, you are so right, as I started to lose weight, the moves got easier. Zumba is an exhilarating work out, love it!
  15. Honestly, I gained 10 pounds before my surgery having food funerals (in a matter of 3 months). I was shocked & don't recommend it. I went cold turkey during the pre-op diet ( no coffee, no pop/soda, no fast foods) and surprisingly it was not that difficult, of course I had some bad moments-but overall I did pretty well. I am nine months post op. I was able to have coffee a month after the surgery and I have enjoyed a lot of the foods I ate pre-op( just in smaller quantities & a lot less frequently). If it's overwhelming, I recommend trying what others have suggested, one thing at a time. Best of luck!

    Still miserable begging for advice

To answer your question the first 5 days were pretty painful for me. However, after day 7 the pain subsided immensely. Hang in there, walk a lot! and try what some of the others mentioned. I was on full liquids the first week, may want to try switching to liquids to see if that helps. Wishing you a pain free tomorrow.

    Dumb question:

Amazing the variations from doctors. I was told no straws the first two months while my belly was healing . I have used one every day since my two month follow up, with no issues.
  19. I am over 9months out & can eat probably more than I should. So I do my best to start with protein first. I can eat about 3-4ounces of protein, about 3-4spoons of carbs. (I.e., rice or potatoes ) & a bite or two of veggies. Because of this, I make MOSTA of my meals protein &veggies only. I do have carbs a few days a week. I drink, right up to my meal but I always wait 30 min after to drink.

    pre op diet failure cheating

I cheated twice pre-op as well. I Lost 15pds & all went well with my surgery. My doc told me my liver didn't shrink as much as he would have liked, but nonetheless, he was able to perform the surgery. I had horrible pain the first couple of days, I can't help but think that maybe had I followed orders, the pain would have been less intense? Won't know for sure. You can't change the past but try to make sure you get a good start to your future, from today forward behave & good luck!
  21. @@NewMeLinZ, thanks for the suggestion. Even though I didn't ask the question, your answer has helped me too. I have an appointment next month & will ask about that. To the op, I personally adjusted within two weeks. I did have to switch from the mask to the nose pillows & it made a big difference. I hope you can find a solution that works for you.
  22. I am over 9 months out and I am definitely a slow loser. I've lost 67lbs. 15 pre-op, so truthfully 52lbs since surgery. I, too, am over 50 but with a thyroid condition. So I expected a slow weight loss. Despite the fact that I "expected" it, I was still hopeful that I would be wrong. Honestly, I've had a few frustrated and emotional days but I don't allow myself to remain in that state because I AM LOSING! I recently started fitting a size 10 (which was my goal size) but I'm not at my goal weight. Honestly, I'm not sure I truly know my goal weight. Time will tell. To answer your question, I've read post from other slow losers who got to their goal weight, so it is possible-I'm banking on it.

    Cold

Yes, unfortunately it is one of the side effects of the sleeve . I've seen post from people who are years out and they are still experiencing this.
  24. Happy Birthday! What a wonderful gift to give yourself! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
